Beautiful and perfect for our first REAL fall day here in Southern California. Off I go and I can't wait to play with my paints today. Thanks Ellen.

Hi! I’m so happy with how my painting turned out. Thank you! I couldn’t keep my paper as wet as yours, so I had to work a bit to keep things blending, but that reminded me of something my watercolor instructor taught me: wet the back of the paper thoroughly, let it sit for 15 minutes, then wet it again and flip it over on your board. This gives you a cool to the touch, ‘not damp but not dry’ paper that makes every stroke smooth like butter. I sometimes don’t have the patience to wait, but I thought I’d share this with everyone. I do have a question though. If I wanted to make an oak tree interesting in a painting like this, how could I do that? Mine always ends up as a smear of brown and black, especially with a darker/colorful background like this. Do you have tips for making tree bark more interesting and detailed?
