Here is your weekly exclusive- many had requested some urban scenes in Italy or Europe and here Is how I would approach a scene such as this. It can be overwhelming to try to paint everything you see- watch how I do not paint it all and in fact I paint simple lines and shapes.

I have attached the photo and trace ( click on highlighted words after supply list below to download )

Really excited about this one. I found a very similar reference photo rainy day in Paris wasn't sure how to tackle it.

Martie

Hi Ellen. This looks like fun. for that kneaded eraser, maybe try using it like the old silly putty and just press and lift.

Terri

Love watching you paint and talk. "Go big or go Home" made me laugh The picture is great and from here the cauliflour blooms actually look like clouds. Great lesson. Thanks

Karen Durkin

Thank you, Ellen. I loved your instruction on the people. I first learned from you about people in Quebec and really appreciated it. Looking forward to Portland. Great lesson.

Oh my! Love this scene! I haven't travelled a whole lot in life, short of camping within several hours from home. However, when I was younger, I went to northern Italy (Riva del Garda, Verona and Venice) where, several of the streets I went shopping looked exactly like this. Others even narrower. Such fond memories. Now, It's a must for me to paint this and I might try this as a Line and Wash.

Love painting street scenes!! Thank you 🙏

Absolutely love this one! I think I am going to have to warm-up a bit before I attempt it by doing a few simpler looking ones in your Urban collection section. It is something that is on my bucket painting list!

Anne Race

It’s called a kneaded eraser because you knead it to get rid of the graphite. Yours sure “kneads” it! 😄 Loved the lesson!

I need a different printer!! My HP isn't printing out the sketch. I'm gonna have to draw this out. I'm so tired of dealing with this printer. Is there one you recommend, Ellen??

cindy

Just getting started! Hoping it works well !
