Here is a poll for future tutorials- again we need to keep these NOT specific to what you want to paint but more general for the group!!

Please do not write in a specific subject you like i.e: an apple on a windowsill with books- LOL

Janet Slayden

I love the Front Door illustrations! Maybe a front door with fall wreath, etc. ♥️

CA D'Amico

Perspective in drawing

CA D'Amico

BTW, Ellen, Thank You for being so much fun on your tutorials…..Love it !!

Gail Winterfeld

Info on focal points and vanishing points. Tricks for using masking fluid. A little info on color theory.

Lesley Scott-Miller

I’d love domestic animals dogs/cats and also farm animals in fields sheep/cows/horses x

Joanne Wolfe

painting so things look more dimensional, like houses, chairs, etc

HeyKat

Thanks for your tutorials and range of subjects. I would like to become more proficient with still life.

Julie Thomas

Perspective: how to make landscape elements look parallel to the intended plane rather than at an angle. My landscapes end up looking wonky, tilted, or like they are viewed from above. E.g., the gondola in a recent tutorial looks like it's climbing a hill.

Tracey L Guilfoy

I would like to see more quirky interesting themes

Peggy Eagan

In terms of techniques - I would like to learn more about how to take a photo and paint a painting of the photo. While I tend to try to simplify the scene/depiction, I inevitably get bogged down in needless details and end up frustrated.

Julie A Palladino

Loading brush..I add too much water..also adding shadows and contrast so images don't look flat.

Louise Sloan Goben

I am so ready for fall!! Love the colors and as I’m from So California, I don’t really see too much of that in person.

Patty Evans

Fall landscapes would be great. We could use them for Thanksgiving cards! PS - I miss your Mini-Mondays...

Leslie J Galloway

I watched a weather channel spot on the fall colors. It’s going to be spectacular this year because of the weird weather. We don’t get fall colors where we live, but I’d love to paint them.

Maria Vermette

I love the Mini Mondays, especially landscapes! They're so approachable and unintimidating for beginners.

Sarah Vogus

I love farm animals—the cows were FUN. Also like the chicks, hens, bunnies, etc.

Noelle Brockhoff

I chose “still life”, but it isn’t *only* because I’m a nerd about the symbolism and semiotics of the still life paintings of the Dutch golden age. As we are all allowed one vote, still life seemed to be inclusive of some of the other choices. Depending on the objects used, there could be relevance that extends to animals, landscapes, and florals (Rachel Ruysch is a brilliant master of botany, a;most bordering on scientific illustration like Pierre-Joseph Redouté). I also feel still life paintings use many techniques and skills I get caught up on when I’m not following a tutorial and using my own reference - simplifying form and creating dimensional shapes using light and shadow, translating an image from life as opposed to semi-flattened photographic reference, and having textures “read” as what they were originally - glass in particular is frustrating, not to mention when there happens to be transparent liquid inside (People who can depict the super fancy type of cut lead crystal should be admired and feared). Plus setting up an individual still life painting also seems to be more flexible in terms of adjustments for many constraints - available time, skill, ambition, and artistic interest. Otherwise, I loved all of the masters studies you’ve done previously (not just ones related to artists in the Netherlands) and am always hoping more will happen, especially hearing your thought process working through the stages of someone else’s finished piece. Or reinterpreting as you see fit. Sorry for the ramble, I just get very excited about very specific things.

Tammy Andrews

All of your tutorials are fun! Mini Mondays are what originally got me hooked on you. Still a fave. I would like to learn how to look at a scene/photo and know what to pull from it to paint and what details to ignore. Maybe that's up to each person, but I feel I need help learning to do it. Fall colors/ scenes, etc are always fun this time of year. South Texas doesn't get much of the beautiful colors.

Martie

Painting for years but still have trouble with adding another layer after it dries!

Tatiana Thompson

I struggle with negative space. Allowing for white space. I struggle ‘seeing’ it

Martie

Love when you teach us how to sketch something!

R Larson

Horse portrait, red-bellied macaw, deer, elephant, giraffe, sea turtle

Lori

Animals - black lab and Bassett hound 😀 please & thank you

JL

Blending colors on paper and sketching are two techniques I struggle with

Wanda Hicks

amount of water on your brush

Judy Carl

Painting floral/petal perspectives.

Diane

Definitely need help with glazing. Hard as I try I lose the beauty of watercolor; it all turns to mud. Help!!

Susanne Bergesen

Flowers - mums, ranunclus, filling in greens on flowers in vases & leaf placement

Anonymous

Still life techniques.

Susanne Bergesen

You did one tutorial awhile back using pallette knives with different edges. I bought a set hoping to be able to use them with tutorials but I haven't seen another tutorial like that. I also invested in watercolor ink colors. More tutorials using those. More abstract, ethereal style tutorials

Mary Boyd

Sometime. A Tutorial on Inks, types of inks. Alcohol, Acrylic . When to use which and why. How to handle inks. The benefits of Inks in a watercolor painting..

Cheryl Farnsworth

I was torn between two! My jam is whimsical animals but I also want to improve on landscapes so that is what I voted for. Thank you for all you do for us Ellen!

Susie Putnam

How about a South West inspired tutorial.

Ricki Marks

Flowers are my favorite subject. I'm also interested in learning about alcohol ink. Would you consider teaching about that?

Karen Cushing

Animals-dogs and cats, whimsical or realistic

Shelly Benjamin

Composition ( esp. landscapes), focal points, values, water control, painting bigger (mixing enough paint, areas drying too fast, etc. paint storage (if you can keep all your tube paints & pallets on your desk, either you have a huge desk or not enough paints, lol). Stretching paper? Thank you Ellen!

Susie Wall

Composition. Also shadows, specifically the color and placement of shadows beneath an object

PNW Pam

Sealife and people (not necessarily together), preferably in pen and wash style.

Susan Comstock

Love the landscapes and ink and wash. Would love to be able to draw a dog, realistic ish. Would love to try vintage looking patterns, scenery, and people.

Lynne Morea

I love the landscape paintings. My second vote would be animals in ink and wash.

Eve Anderson

How to use intense inks as well as more fun illustrations. Loved that girl with the book!

M Rollins

My first choice would be techniques followed by landscapes. I struggle with: water control (wet on wet and wet on dry drying out too quickly), loading brush with enough paint vs water, washes, perspectives and shadowing to get more depth. And oh yeah, I'm a huge fan of your tutorials and all the subjects you cover, most of all "Have Fun!"

Lori

Also, Spanish moss on southern trees, please.

martha nagle

landscapes with water control tips would be great!

Anna Woods

Hey Ellen thanks for the options, love to see beach scenes in the fall also as I live near the water, your more recent one with the river was beautiful, would also love to see a person/people in some capacity in your scenes, towns also or rainy days with puddles, thanks for anything😃💜🤗

Ang D

I love landscapes. I like when we do things smaller size because I always paint in either 4x5 or 5x7. I send paintings as postcards because otherwise I have a pile of paintings around that I can't do anything with. So maybe paintings we can use as postcards. OR even how more on taking photos and translating them into watercolor.

Monica

Love the landscapes, also holidays for Christmas cards.

Marina Latchis

love your tutorials wish your sketches were darker I'm not an artist and I rely on your art work love landscapes how about Xmas scenes ty

Jones-Klein

Techniques for perspective in watercolor would be great!

Kap'tin

Techniques - avoiding cauliflower, controlling the paint load on brushes,

Guliz Gezik

Layering, especially with landscapes.

CynthiaJQ

Your whimsical techniques set you apart from others. Definitely fun illustration!

Lisa Carnevale

I feel like doing something really different, with people, places etc! Need a break from flowers etc!

Angelonia

Ideas for Halloween Cards

Pat Buescher

Animals - I would love to see a tutorial for a fun skunk and People - older generation and younger interacting inkes unique ways - i,.e. roller skating, dancing, flying kites, riding bikes

Sue Kroskey

Softening edges and using too much water

Sandy Brawner

They all sound good to me. I only checked one though.

Debbie Sheehan

Anything you do works for me! As expected, Christmas stuff. Thank you.

Debbie Fulton

I would love to have a tutorial (s) on painting dogs… Maybe show us how you would capture your own wonderful pup in a painting (maybe atmospheric?) And then give us some tips on how to paint different types and colors of fur/ hair??? I also like Pat Buescher’s suggestion for painting children interacting with adults and or flying kites, riding bikes, playing at the beach or simply walking and holding hands.

Ilene Goldman

Painting figures - sitting, standing, walking.....

Kathy Dixon

I too would love a dog , the hair , etc.. I also love the idea of painting figures in different positions.. also love anything fun with the holidays!

Ellen Metsker

I'd love to learn to paint some birds and figures

Jennifer J Tice

I would love a session on painting cats. Is there a way to do them so they aren't totally realistic but aren't too cartoonish either?

Linda Piotrowski

I enjoyed it when you had us try painting in the style of Monet and VanGogh. I’d love some more “done in the style of.” I like landscapes and florals.

Brenda Walker

Dogs or cats! How to paint their hair and faces.

Rosemarie Berry

Woodland creatures……badger, fox, squirrel, hedgehog for example. Please!

SusanP

I selected landscapes (and seascapes), but I would also love tutorials on dogs and cats. I like to do pet portraits/memorials for friends, but have only done colored pencil ones so far

Mona Moorehead

I would love to paint animals. I’d like tips on perspective. Thanks!

Jane Minishi

I like the fun illustration. It was fun. Please do a fall illustration. Thanks

Diann Smith

I really miss “Mini Monday Madness”!

Tami Smith

Maybe a video or two on how to find your own style. I feel like there’s some style lurking in me and it doesn’t know how to come out LOL

Leanna G

Colorful Birds, Like Peacocks

Michael Cruz

My issue is with WATER! I have a problem with to much water I don't know how to mix so that it is creamy!

Michele Peirano

I love all your tutorials. Thank you so much for generously sharing/teaching us how to have fun and relax playing with watercolor.

Catherine Patel

I would like lessons on drawing simple people to paint. Especially when someone you know. Like my grandaughter

Ellen Crimi-Trent

HI Gail - tea: washes- skies, light color flowers, grounds etc. as you want to get darker you add the pigment- last is butter when you want intensity and fine details. Size of what your painting and what item dictates brush - skies lg brush, small details small brush- loose brush for loose skies stiff brush for more details- etc. :)

Ellen Crimi-Trent

that is something you will have to go on YouTube for- perspective is not an easy subject to teach and I have issues with it myself- there are tons of videos on YouTube about that :)

Ellen Crimi-Trent

oh shoot I meant to delete my last comment to yours instead I hit your comment but anyway read my comment about the brush and water control- LOL damn fingers!

Martha Jacobo

I eally loved the apples and would like more colorful fall scenes.

Jodee Urquhart
