I've been working on this for like a month and it's finally finished! I got so sick of drawing this blonde binch. The backgrounds were made by Deb Lee (instagram.com/jdebbiel) and I love them so much!!! Hope you like it! And when I start posting it on Instagram don't spoil anything!!! :)

Anastasia Bonnet

I think it's more to be interpreted like a grieving process, accepting the person won't come bake and you have to keep going instead of closing yourself on your dark thoughts

Judith Light

The housing setting kinda reminds me of that movie Vivarium played by Jesse Eisenberg

Giulia Zangirolami

How did she call for a car if there was no service? 🥲

Marianne

Yaaaaas!!! Finally! Thank you thank you! ❤️

SillyStringSoup

I got chills at “your skin didn’t fit”

Mayra

Yay! Can't wait to read it!

apollo151

Love it as always. Is the creepy shadow person supposed to be like...grief? Skulking around, and waiting for you to let it in to do who knows what to your life?

Alfie

i absolutely fucking hate your cliffhanger style but also it gives me life.

Jen

I was frantically searching the car to see if “it” came along 😬

James Carriere

I live for your spooky content ❤️💀❤️

Quiana Schuler

Omg this was the best!!! So creepy...loved it!!! Well done sir 👍

Jen B

I love the way you tell a story.

Pancake_boi

Yeah it's one thing for wrinkly skin on paranormal stuff but it's completely different to say the skin "doesn't fit" 😱

bbuzz28

I love this so so very much. Fantastic work ✨

Bold Crow Press

Amazing! Few artists are doing psychological horror comics this good! This is Junji Ito level shit ❤️💀

Liza

And illustrated so well 🙌

ExpirmentMore

It reminded me so much of Welcome to Nightvale and Alice Isn’t Dead…I just love it!!!

Heather Robinson

Words cannot express how much I fucking adore the horror genre on you.

M

Alice Isn’t Dead is similar to this.

Izzy

Amazing! Thank you for the heebie jeebies, I was starting to think I had lost the ability to get spooked. 😎

Adam Ellis

Ah thanks! I love Junji Ito a lot! I only really started reading his stuff a couple months ago but he's very good.

nibe

Yes I need to know -- I'm assuming she did because she was returning to her "real home" but truly only Adam knows I guess! Lol

Ko-Wahi Kit

Chilling and delightfully ambiguous.

Jon Trinh

Omg, I could totally keep reading a full comic of this. I'd buy a book.

The horror comics are SO GOOD!

Matt Coughlin

Sis, they need to get you a Netflix deal haha

Naomi Hatchman

Oh wow, your stories are so powerful, and I absolutely love the artwork. And all those little touches, down to the bend in the paper when she's reading the note. Just amazing.

Sarnanigans

Ahhhhhh that was soo good! Definitely worth the wait!!

Billy

I love this! It reminds me a lot of Alice Isn't Dead, and it's perfectly unsettling.

Timbales

Why hasn't Netflix given you a deal yet?

Celena Grcar

so scary, my heart is racing

Matthias Gaber

I love horror stories. And I love this one too! Thank you!

okits

That was creepy AF, well done.

Kevin

A beautify rendition of the dream you made a comics of! All the spooks and chills of the other but in a setting and storey that amplifies it! Make me wonder as a view if it's a remake... or a sequel 🤔 great work as always

Meggie

I absolutely love everything about this comic and reminds me of why I supported you on Patreon❤ The character designs are amazing, the backgrounds are flawless, and the story creepy af just the way I like them😂

Marla J

Dealing with the death of your life partner is confusing, and unbelievably lonely. Yes, this is horror but Adam you tell your stories so beautifully. Thanks for this one. It has been 35 years for me but this hit home - and in a good way.

Pink Lemonade

Your skin didn’t fit oooohhh that have me chills lol.

KandyCube

oooooooh this was epic

Maggie Smith

I’m glad nothing happened to the cat. 💜

Mister Cletus

"HEY MA. ADAM ELLIS IS WRITING THE SPOOP SHIT AGAIN. "and i like it..."

Daniel Keating

Totally brilliant. Such a fantastic story about moving on, and being alienated by what you once shared.

Migaish

I loved this so spoopy & mysterious 😍

Beemo Rivera

I started reading this at 1am and was like … this is probably horror isn’t it I shouldn’t read it right now lol

Keyo

Thank the heavens I didn't read this last night before bed like I planned lol this was amazing!

Joe Stevenson

Your superpowers are drawing sexy himbos and scary AF comics

JD

I feel silly but I don’t get the last page. Can someone explain it to me?

syd

wow so good, I love it. also really glad gouda is safe!

Danielle Keogh

You know the character is female yes?

Joe Stevenson

And you do know that Adam draws and posts about himbos, yes? That this piece isn't the only thing on his Patreon? Think before trying to patronise.

Danielle Keogh

I also don't really get it... Was the house in limbo? Where they could choose to go into death with their partner (the rat seemed half alive half dead) or go back to living? I'm not sure.

Joe Stevenson

No need to feel silly! I interpreted it as the houses fading from view as she watches from the taxi window

John

The detail in the hands of the dead wife's skin was amazing! The multiple fingers trying to fit in to one finger of a glove. Great attention to detail!

Kit Foreman

I really like this. I joined your Patreon specifically for your horror content, and you are DELIVERING.

JD

Danielle, that’s a cool interpretation! Joe, that makes sense, thank you :)

Anna Hawthorn

It looked like it was her wife looking through the curtains in the beginning? I interpret the story as if the main character was missing her wife and hadn't moved onwards. The new houses seemed to be a place where the living and dead lived together to see if the living person wanted to go with the dead. The longer the dead person stayed, the more dead they seemed to be. The moment she said no to her dead wife entering the house, she knew she was finished and ready to leave.

Jared Hunter

I kinda picked up on that too but the person she saw at first looked like they had a beard(?) so I didn't automatically assume it was her wife. Even if it wasn't I think your interpretation is the best one that I gravitate towards as well!

Oystein

Dude, when are you gonna start making movie scripts?

Angelina Earley

I also get a low-key Babadook vibe, so good.

Rodwolf

Got goosebumps ! That’s another amazing piece Adam

Nyein

Great comic Adam!! Super eerie and left me wanting more :)

Arthur Resende

So amazing! It deserves a wallpaper!!!

Stephanie Fritz

The way she addresses her wife directly with "you" rather than "her" gives that little extra spook factor

Adam

this was amazing omg

Lorena

The get home safe is chilling, when the wife says it I can’t tell if she means it or know there is more spirits out there

Hal 🔆

I loved this

Hal 🔆

same thought 😂😭

Catie

I love this

Bee

I had nightmares after reading this. The writing/pacing/art were all on point. I’ll be counting indoor pets before bed tonight!

shellbargo

So good :’) definitely one of my favorites so far!!

Maggie

a few of the words are cut off by the arrow buttons, but this is a great story! glad i don’t live alone lol

Heidi Seuss

This was so so good! I love the horror comics. I may be making this up, but I feel like Adam made a comic a while ago that had the “can I come home with you” except the person was like him with skin that didn’t quite fit. I feel like I remember he said it was based on a dream he had. Does anyone else remember this or am I making it up haha? I can’t seem to find it on Instagram.

jose_corderito

First of all, this was aesthetic af & and also thank you, I guess I didn't need to sleep today

Deanna Shelby

I was squinting as I clicked through the slides like that would save me from something scary lmfao

Anna kim

You always create the best creepy atmospheres!

sean

That was *chef's kiss*

Aldonys

Wait, was there no driver in the car???

TimCNA

love it!

Reddy

Really love this vibe. Thanks. Feels 2007 Something-Awful skinwalker thread: exactly what I wanted.

Rille

This is really good. I feel like the neighborhood isn't really evil, but it can be good or bad depending on each person. Since this person lost their lover, the neighborhood probably had problems bringing back a whole human. But if you had lost, say, your car and house, perhaps the neighborhood would provide you with a nice car and a lovely house and you'd see nothing wrong with the place. I think it only seems evil in this situation because reincarnation specifically is very hard and morally debatable

Veronica Bohrer

This felt like a skin walker situation!! So good!

Ricchan

you got me now! come here because of the instagram-trigger. damn that was a great comic!! <3

Jo Sandor

By god this was creepy. The sand textures are tooo good and the character is amazing

Zuzanna

Finally joined patreon for this comic and was not disappointed, it was amazin <3

Mary

Your horror comics are perfection

Amanda

I want more 😤 and also a spookier ending. it was nice they escaped, but I want to be scared more

Yarbla

Joined for this comic. Thank you, so good!

Alyssa B

Man oh man I really felt for that characters grief. ♡

Jamie Armstrong

This is the reason I joined. The long form horror without waiting for the ending. I can't read them right before bed and I need the ending.

Rebecca

Awww wait thats the end??

Bangers P. Pancakes

I LOVE it! I'm also really glad that you included kitty Gouda at the end so we'd know they were safe. Thank you for that!

Ricardo C

Saw this on IG and just had subscribe lol. Love it!!!

Dragos Giurea

Subscribed just for this. Worth it.

Camila Pérez

The preview of this comic finally made me a patreon ❤️

Erwin Hernandez

Love this one.. It's like horrorsadnessfeelsvilletown.

Jenny

Same!!!!

Brooke

Yep me too!

Arshbir Thind

Guessed that the stranger was the wife from the second part of the comic on insta. Gonna go delete it now. Great story was very atmospheric. I believe the narrator will feel compelled to go back and try letting the wife/not wife into the home, but won't have the courage (but all the sense sense) to ever actually do it; yet, the question of what would happen if they did will linger with them even until their deathbed.

Lezlee-ann

So good!! But how did they call for a car with no phone service ..... a car with no visible driver

Alyssa Boxhill

The narrator is a dead ringer for my current girlfriend. Fortunately we’re not married and I’m not dead. Glad Gouda made it out alive too, apparently?!

Lore

This was great!!

Roxana

But why?! What was it? I have so many questions

Chiara Neko

Let's talk about Gouda the Cat! 😍

CelestialxSimmer

Anyone else notice in the note that the writer almost wrote “This neighborhood is scary” and “The desert is dangerous”, but crossed both of the adjectives out and uses other words instead??

ML

What would “only take a second” ?!

Tara Victoria

I feel this whole story in my heart. After my husband died, I dreamed that he came back, but not him, not the him I fell in love with. Like the character, I did not want to stay in the house and rushed to move to another place, where there was no one I knew and I felt so lonely. Moving on can be a slow and painful process. <3

Tasha

Oh this made my heart heavy. I feel so sad and sorry for you, it must have been the worst feeling ever. I hope you're doing better again. How long is your husband gone?

Tara Victoria

It's been 8 years. I appreciate your kind words. It is definitely something you can get through, but never get over.

Marnie

Here too!

Marnie

It seems I always dream of my dead coming back but not quite right, not quite themselves. Multiple friends and family, multiple dreams.

Chowder

Message loud and clear. This feels like the way I struggled accepting my little brother’s sudden death. Nice writing!

Tossumout

She wanted to discuss our lord and savior Jesus Christ ;)

Lada

I definitely had to renew my account just for this.

Eric Wang

You’re such a great story teller! 🤯🤯🤯

Olivia

Beautiful

Anne

This reminds me of Pet Sematary by Stephen King

Tim Willy

Your drawing is beautiful, she is beautiful. The background art is too.

mayah with an h

so eager to let her out so they can let the next one in

Iris Lin

"Find what you lost" does anyone else wonder if the narrator had let the wife in, they would have found what they lost? Like the wife would come back to life? 🤯

Merl

Oh my gosh subscribing to your patreon was so worth it. 10/10

Syukys Daniela

I… I didn’t get it.. I need answers… why the skin didn’t fit? What would have happen if she let her in?

Luna Yoku

It seems kinda like a silent hill type deal. The grief of her wife personified, or a monster taking advantage of the fact she so desperately missed her wife that it used it as a way to get her. For what purpose? We don't know but I imagine it wasn't great

Kate Huggins

I suspect this would fall into the skin walker category. Also, I think it's the not knowing that makes it so unnerving.

Steph R.

Absolutely loved this comic, really makes me wonder what would happen if she let her in.

Kay Tidten

Really liked the beginning and subscribed to Patreon only to see the end. But have to admit was a bit disappointed by the end

Angel Cardozo

I love your art style combined with horror. Another fantastic piece.

Josh M

It's a metaphor. The house in the isolated desert neighborhood represents the lonely mental landscape of the grieving mind. You might have a few neighbors - others who also grieve - but you'll notice everyone keeps to themselves, much like everyone must ultimately navigate the process in their own way. The wife creature represents our protagonist's desire to be reunited with her lost love. The creature's wrongness indicates that, ultimately, fulfilling this desire is impossible...or at the very least the outcome won't be what the protagonist hopes for. Allowing entry to the creature means being consumed by grief: giving into depression, or worse. By denying entry, the protagonist comes to terms with her wife's death. She doesn't defeat her grief, and the neighborhood will always be there. But she is able to carry on with life :)

Michael D Williams

Im here to support but a little disappointed in the end. I felt like it was going to build up to more

SmokeAndAsh

It's really cool to see how much your art has developed over time, especially with panels that have a lot of emotion and movement. Also, I personally love horror, so I'm very happy to see more spooky stories! :D

SmokeAndAsh

Yeah, I assumed the being that was assuming the form of their wife was hoping to bank on the character's misery and longing to be let inside the house. When that didn't work, and the character said they wanted to move out, the people said fine because they could find someone else who would be more desperate and let a monster in if it looked like a loved one that had passed away. At least, that was my interpretation of it.

Casey

This was so good omgg

charlotte profiterole

Great. A story that raises more questions than it answers. A refreshing change from the current need to explain every last detail of a character‘s life. I relished the journey you took us on.

Dani Cav

I got chills reading this!!!

Giuliaaa_

So cool I love it!

Sadhaka

Have you thought about posting on Webtoons or another site? The horror genre is pretty popular right now :D

Johnnie Ortiz

I have a recurring dream where something is wearing my dad's skin, and it doesn't fit well. My dad died 20 years ago.

Lea

I agree with this interpretation! My take as well

Some Dork

These short horror stories are fantastic, I love the art

Thuraya Lynn

Damn, for a second I thought they'd lose the cat forever...

Harley Davis

Absolutely fantastic my dude.

Fishcaek

Wow, that was incredible!! I loved the eerieness of it all and would love to see this fully adapted! But also, it’s so perfect as it is! Such a good tale!❤️❤️

Hmlc13

That was creepy! Good job

Josef Edwards

Get home safe too, you skin taker.

Marchmain

ok but who is driving the car at the end? Why did she buckle herself into the passenger seat and what is the cat looking at from its cat carrier in the second to last page?

Sian Chandler

Yessss!! My faves so far!! So creepy

Michelle

I love how this really isn't horror. At least in the sense that the central focus, to me, doesn't seem to be creating a perfect horror story with those usual aims. It's an incredibly powerful allegory of the grief process, and grief happens to be horrific. My interpretation was that the subdivision represents the grieving period and the decisions you face then, especially how it says on the brochure it's transitional housing, that's often such a transitional time. And during that time, people might face two options. One is to run from it all to avoid the pain, which I think most mental health professionals would agree never works and ultimately allows the distorted memory of your loved one (which isn't really them, as they'd want you to heal, hence what the not-you figure in the comic represents) to subtly control your life and prevent you from truly living yours. That to me would be letting the figure in, as not truly living is a kind of death, one that might just 'take a second'." Maybe that's where the other neighbors went. The other option/path could be to choose to sit in it, with those memories, so you can process the loss and heal and learn to live again. That would be going back to the real home they shared in the comic, to face the pain and work it out instead of forever running and glancing behind you at the unprocessed grief. Seems the texter in the comic just facilitates that process.

Sherri

So eerie. Love the setting and tone.

Tom

The combination of the two styles is beautiful

Brandy White

Love that my ferrets decided to scrabble at the door on a very appropriate panel..... no sleep again. Maybe ever.

Dianna Lora

💯 agree. So well done.

Orsolya Sántha

Still couldn't find the courage to read the end 😂

Orsolya Sántha

Ok I finished it😁 so only one thing bothers me still why no driver?

CruelPuberty

Kinda feels like a Silent Hill 2 female version with less gore. I love it.
