I don't condone Annika's actions one bit. That said, she was probably at her limit with the murderous kids. If she tried to clue in the 2 of them, the kids may have picked up on it and have killed them. They seem to have some special method of communication, maybe even telepathically.

Unrelated, but Adam I know you're a top-tier AI "art" hater, so if you haven't heard of it I highly recommend looking into the tools Glaze and Nightshade, both from U Chicago, which protect against art mimicry and actually poison AI datasets that scrape them, both by making pretty invisible changes to images.

My interpretation, based on nothing more than a hunch that something supernatural is happening, is that some force dictates at least one adult must stay on the island at all times. She got trapped before and found a rare opportunity to make her escape.

I know this is a fully contained story, but I can't help but want more. Is our narrator alive? Who is on the boat? Why didn't the adults who abandoned the place send for help once they got out? Did any of them get out or did the kids kill them all and let the other adults think they escaped?

Oh my god. I was not going to engage with you because I have no intention to explain literally centuries of colonization, but that's just too much. I'm sorry you're appalled by my question rather than the actual events. The only thing that's fucked up here is the Russians' proficiency at playing the victim and how easy the west falls for it. The fact that the kids are recreating their experiences with the filmmakers by literally wearing Morgan's face is so chilling. The role of documentarians in society and whether they're guilty of exploitation of their subjects is such a real moral struggle that is captured really well here.

Anyone who showed up would to help would be sucked into the same cursed fate. Her selflessness spares others and is the only true possibility of a distant happy ending... assume she serves these creepoids for decades and eventually passes of weariness and old age, maybe the children are somehow...damaged by not having a human connection. It's possible the cursed caretaker role ends with her sacrifice. She's a hero.

Nice comic. One thing: as someone who partakes in taxidermy and skinning,- Oh, wait, I have multiple things to say, geez, one moment- [Thinking] Okay, the face. Faces are probably the hardest are to work on because *think of all the different ways it moves*. It is firmly rooted and carefully secured with cartilage, the fat is thin and the muscles are directly into the skin in most places. Best case scenario, you work from the back of the head and then pull with juuust the right amount of force to deglove the bulk of it.. but the eyes come with and it sticks at the nose. [Pauses to check the panels,] the skin around the eyes is intact and the eyes are missing. I think the eyes shooould be cut in half, with the back halves still in the head, but they used the eyes for- HOW DID THEY USE THE EYES??? I FORGOT ABOUT THAT— HOW ARE THEY INTACT??? Not to mention, eyeballs are fluid filled flesh sacks, those suckers should be partway deflated. I understand not this witchcraft before me! Blerp, blerp, blerp, blerp. What’s next? Tools, let’s do that. A butcher’s knife makes sense for divvying up the body into more manageable portions for that teensy little workspace. Frankly, that they could work there at all is the real mystery here, my work space at least allows me to have gravity on my side; they’d be fighting just to keep the thing still! How little blood’s actually on the table makes sense to me. People tend to think we’re a bunch of animated polmogranits, however that word’s spelt, but we’re really more like apples or grapes; we’re mostly liquid and that liquid is mostly NOT free-floating. Putting the glasses back on was cute. These weirdos were paying their freakish respect. The camera. Oh my stars, the camera. I choose to believe those are bones from the first person that killed and that the only part of it is from the cameraman are the eyes. My guy, I have been trying to remove muscle, cartilage, and miscellaneous membrane tissue from my bones for MONTHS now. Do these kids have those beetles I keep hearing about??? Do they have heavy duty flesh melting chemicals stashed away somewhere? I am intrigued. I forgot to mention the tools, or at least go into proper depth about them. The knife looks fine, I have attempted to use a similar knife (it’s too long and too straight, the real horror in this comic is these kids’ time manipulation abilities because- if skinning a raccoon takes four hours than at least partially skinning and then wholly taking apart a full grown human man should have taken DAYS. Unless these kids are pros. Who knows, maybe they have a lot more experience than they’re letting on, maybe they’ve dismantled all of the other adults already. Maybe that one lady was the sole escapee. Anything else? To want to ramble a little bit longer. Anything else? I guess the butcher’s knife is a bit of an impractical choice.. a basic hand saw would work a lot better and get cleaner cuts. A firewood axe would be more sensible, as they live among trees their homes are wooden. Getting that flimsy bit of metal throw a femur is an impressive feat, I commend these forest gremlins for their perseverance.
