Love the focus on Zoro especially after Thriller Bark Seems like Oda's using Perona as a literal ghost of his sacrifice during that arc still haunting him til now. Having him and Mihawk meet like this feels great too. Zoro talking Luffy's physical pain but not being there for his emotional one feels like a mirror to Kuina's death too. He was supporting her but couldn't prevent her death. '' Humans are fragile things, Zoro '' from his master during the flashback He's always burdened by this anxiety to not be strong enough to protect. And the trauma with Kuina is a constant reminder of that.

Timeline wise It's been around 11days (since Sabaody) when the Straw Hats learn about Luffy and Ace. Day 1: The Celestial Dragon incident; The crew gets separated, Ace's execution is announced through the News. Day 4: Each of them travel for around 3days before landing. Day 4-5: Luffy learns there's 6 days remaining before Ace's execution. Day 10: Events of Impel Down Day 11 : Events of Marineford and the news travel around the world.

Some things that happen on those islands are filler, but for the most part all 8 of the main stories and islands the straw hats were sent to are manga canon. All of them were told through a short cover story.

The parts showing the Straw Hats are all done by guest animators. I'm pretty sure its anime only, even the stories were made by them. I could be mistaken on that last part but I know the art/animation was another team.

Perona was sent to Mihawk's place during Thriller Bark and has been there alone until Zoro showed up. Mihawk wasn't there because he was ordered to Marineford for the war, so when he showed up this episode he was just getting home from work just to find his future rival and some girl hanging out on his property lol
