I don't know why but I really appreciate the taster who has become the head lady in waiting. Like after being initially scared into helping by Maomao, she seems to have formed a genuine connection with Lishu and is trying her hardest to basically look after her solo. And tasters are supposed to be the MOST expendable people, so she probably had basically no training to prepare her for this kind of role and responsibility.

The three sisters' names include different colours which they wear the ribbons of, so for someone who speaks the language, it would be immediately apparent the name of the sister from the colour: it's both a distinguishing feature as well as a mnemonic. (They did mention this when they were introduced, but they spend a bit more time expanding on it in the novel.)

funny to think about how chilled juice in hot weather would be a luxury back in the day, since ice to chill things had to be shipped to warmer regions in massive chunks so as much as possible would stay intact by the time it arrived at its destination
