Whoopsie

Yeah this backstory for Fisher Tiger is so damn good

Matthew Gilroy

Fisher tiger has a 230 million bounty. Luffy at Sabaody had a 300 million bounty. Rayleigh was 100× stronger than the Supernovas at Sabaody. Kizaru was making Rayleigh sweat at Sabaody. Yes, he absolutely DESTROYS Fisher Tiger no question😂

The Fisher Tiger/Queen Otohime flashback is a real highlight of this arc imo, I feel like Oda approaches these heavy topics pretty well and with the right amount of nuance. Idk how Arlong could witness the trauma of a little girl like that and then some years later do the same damn thing to Nami. Bigotry truly rots the heart and mind.

I honestly think that seeing Koala clean the floor out of pure trauma response made Arlong hate humans even more. Like, 'they're so evil that they do this even to their own people'. I also think that Arlong was a lot stronger during the flashback than he was when he fought Luffy. It's kind of a recurring thing that we see in One Piece that people quickly improve and get stronger when they're out there with a sense of purpose, but the opposite also seems to be true when people just run away and hide from the world. By the time Luffy fought Arlong, Arlong was just hiding in the East Blue for eight years. There were no obstacles to overcome or anything, he just beat up farmers basically. So, just like Crocodile and Moria did when they both ran away to be the big fish in a small pond, Arlong let himself get too comfortable, and slow, and weak, especially when fighting someone with such fire in their belly like Luffy. But then, at least in Crocodile's case, when he helped break out of Impel Down he's suddenly attacking Akainu and fighting Doflamingo and Mihawk, out of nowhere. He wasn't training at 100x Earth's normal gravity in jail, it was just having a wake-up call and being pushed out of his comfort zone, and having a sense of purpose again. I think that Arlong probably actually kind of formidable back in the day, before he let himself go, which is interesting to think about. I know the "you lost to a 16-year old child" thing was a joke, but it kind of misses the mark in One Piece, where ambition = power.

it's ok to call her smile creepy, it was the prurpose, it was not a smile of joy or happyness, it was a smile of fear as contradictory as it sounds. i love that moment, really show how horrible the celestial dragon have been, she is eleven now, got liberated 3 years ago it mean she was 8 years old and for her to get to a point that she can stop herself from crying from being branded with hot metal. how long has she been a slave, how old was she when she was taken, and why would they take her, what kind of twisted need did they see to take a child.

Shanks to Luffy at Ace's funeral: "It's okay to cry" Fisher Tiger to Koala: "It's okay to cry" My two red GOATs.

Sure, and 8 year old robin beats jimbei at that time. By that logic. I'm not disagreeing with kizaru mopping the floor with tiger. but it is long since established that the reasoning with bounties is more than flawed.

Love the integration of Koala into this backstory and storyline The smile she needed to put on was so genuinely disturbing, her moping the floor with her own clothes always sends a chill down my spine.

There's an interesting conversation between Kizaru and that one Navy. They say that they know about Arlong, but can't assess Fishmen strength accurately because they're always underwater. And then mention noticing a third man alongside Arlong and Tiger. This loops back to when Yosaku introduced us to Jinbe and Arlong. He said Arlong was on par with Jinbe, one of the Seven Warlords. Now we know that's not the case. You can either read it as Oda changing his mind, tho i doubt it, cuz we can clearly see the difference between Mihawk and Along back then. Or see it as an extension of how the bounty/strength of some characters often relies on rumors and misinformation. Yosaku never met Arlong and fishmen discrimination led to conversations about how they're ''all the same''. (Btw that one navy, his name is Strawberry and he was one of the five vice-admirals we saw during Enies Lobby's buster call. And his hair is actually long because of his skull not his hair lmao.)

god fisher tiger is so fucking cool

Matthew Gilroy

True. My comment should have just been "Kizaru shits on Fisher Tiger"

Fabulous

Am I the only one who find Otohime really annoying? I can’t stand this character. She can’t be so gullible and running a country. Her thinking and desires are super unrealistic

Suppy

FISHER TIGER MY GOAT 🗣️🗣️🗣️

Jack

Yeah mlk was so unrealistic

Artemis

yep because you don't understand her, which seems to be the sentiment for this arc in general is people hate it because they don't fully grasp it.

fia

I love this arc so damn much‼️‼️‼️

fia

Absolute cinema

Fabulous

Not even comparable too mlk, you are disrespecting mlk with a function character

Arkham

I’ve never been sure if this is intentional, but Tiger brands a human orphan to make her part of his crew. He did so with a good reason. What is the first thing Arlong, twisted by hatred, does to an orphaned human girl to make her part of his crew?

Ty

What is super unrealistic about her desires and thinking? We could probably say the same thing about any leader trying to make a massive change in the world.

Fishman Island is not the best arc. For me I can feel a bit of fatigue in Oda's writing here and I don't blame him after finishing the Marineford saga. He has to start building up again. Still, there are some amazing moments in this arc. This episode being one of the greats.

Kittyslayr

Honestly I love her lol
