Love this episode. You can really hear in his voice how Fisher Tiger is so deeply disappointed in himself for not being able to overcome his hatred.

Lūthér Hölâyèãhmé

Fisher Tiger understood that hating all humans was wrong, but he couldn't betray his internal morals and biases.

I tried typing a message, but I literally can't write something that I'm not like: "ok, is this a spoiler?". When you have more context, you experience episodes like these so differently.

It takes incredible level of self awareness and inner strength to acknowledge your own shortcomings, try to ignore them and better yourself, not for you, but for others And the next generation! And Tiger really shines through that. '' My reason is overpowered by the demon in my heart '' is such a powerful line.

Fisher Tiger backstory > 15 episode Ace, Sabo, Luffy backstory

I like the line from you guys about "its not easy". What the fishmen have to do here is not easy, they have to go above and beyond just to prove their humanity to highly bigoted people. Great leaders like MLK and Mandela talked about how badly they wish they could act on their rage but knew that it was not the solution. Oda has tackled rough topics and have had characters go through horrible shit before, but Fisher Tiger's story is so brutal. Oda seriously cooked here and its one of the reasons I love this arc so much.

Ty

Also shout out to Jimbei for being such a good story teller and just awesome in general.

Envyus

You probably forgot but Stawberry is a vice admiral now. He's shown up a few times.

Otohime's actions are rooted in her belief that everyone, including those who have caused harm, can be redeemed. She doesn't see the need to perpetuate hatred or resentment. So her act of slapping them is a way of showing their wrong doings and then forgiving them directly after. By slapping those who show hatred, Otohime hopes to shock them into realizing the impact of their actions and the need to change. Otohime's kindness and willingness to forgive also inspire those around her, including Fisher Tiger and Jinbe, to adopt her pacifistic views. This is in contrast to how people that perform wrong doings would be treated in the upper world and be placed into slavery or just outright not forgiven. Its at the center of the curropt regime of the world and the racial tensions of the story, Fisher tiger living up to his ideals and not killing people to show to the world that he is not like the humans and how it ties into the arlong arc and provides much greater context of the story is just so interesting and engaging. Honestly fishman island has some of the most profound level of writing in any arc up to this point so its suprising that so many people of the community look down upon it. You have to really peel back the layers of the themes and the message that oda is trying to show you. Its deep man. This is in my opinion is when One piece writing post time skip just reaches a different level.

A lot of people meme about Tiger getting killed by fodder marines, but I think him being relatively weak actually makes him even more of a gigachad than if he was Admiral-level or something. Pulling off what he did at Marie Jois would be one thing if he was a top-tier, but Tiger being so frail and mortal honestly elevates it to one of the craziest feats in the entire series and shows how courageous he was and how deeply he believed in his convictions. Imagine the guts it takes to go back to the place where you were enslaved and suffered through the most terrible, traumatic years of your life with no backup. Not just overcoming the fear of going to one of the most heavily-guarded and dangerous places in the world, ALONE, and not just dealing with the fact that you'll likely either die or be enslaved all over again, but also the trauma of the dehumanizing abuse that you had to endure there and how insanely triggering going back there would be. Now imagine all that and imagine that you're not even strong and badly lose 1v1s against virtually every single high-end fighter in the One Piece universe, or even just the ones we saw at Marineford. You've got no Haki, no OP Devil Fruit powers, no Fish-man advantages on land. Just one fuck up and you're dead. It's honestly completely insane. It's crazy that Tiger was able to climb the Red Line at all with balls that big.

The issue is that some OP fans look at this arc like it’s a power scaling arc because the straw hats are entering a new territory post time skip but that is NOT what it is at all. The story is more of a contextualized plot for some of the mysteries and lore concerning racial tensions and the nature of morally evil corruption in the world. The focus is on exploring themes of prejudice, racism, and the inherent struggle between humanity and different races, namely humans and Fishmen. The koala introduction was pretty frightening mirroring that of Hancock’s trauma. While the arc does involve character development of the straw hats, the primary narrative drive is the conflict stemming from the deep-seated hatred and discrimination presented in one piece and I think what makes this arc so good is its not a story that is just exlusive to this location, it encompasses so much build-up we have to come to known throughout the series and it places a focus on the themes and the overarching story of 540+ episodes. If that isn't for you, then well sorry. ennies lobby or marinford is probably more suited for that type of audience, but this kind of deep stuff is the reason i love this story so much and the reason ill be a fishman defender for anyone who says this arc is skippable. Also im speaking in general, this is not directed completly towards you.

This flashback gets 5 out of 5 Jinbeis

I was typing a response, but you edited your weirdly hostile post like five times so I just gave up even re-reading it. Anyway, this has nothing to do with what I posted. It seems like you only read the first half of the first sentence. I'm talking about how Tiger being portrayed as more of an everyman enhances his characterization. Also, for what it's worth, people making jokes about Tiger getting killed by random marines doesn't inherently have anything to do with power scaling. Don't be such an Arlong and assume the worst in everyone. It seemed like you softened your post a little, but for what it's worth, jumping on people with confrontational non-sequitur rants makes people not want to post at all. It makes it seem like you're picking fights. If you just wanted to get how much you love Fishman Island off your chest then next time just post it like normal, don't make it a response to me, thanks.

What even is the comparison supposed to be about here?

Ariix

I love how Oda tackles the whole issue of racism and discrimination. It feels like he is portraying the complexity of it so well and shows *why* it's such an ongoing issue that can't be fixed easily. Fisher tiger is the perfect example of someone who knows what is right but is part of the circle of hate and I love his character.

Oussama Essamadi

I can't believe Gon joined the navy, what was he thinking? I just love, LOVE how Oda played off Fisher Tiger's character, a man seemingly good, for good, and spreading what's fundamentally good, but deep inside, even he knows how clouded his mind is. He's self-aware, but even then, he set aside his biases and kept on pursuing the right thing.

Oussama Essamadi

Comparing apples to sea urchins, what's the point?

The comparison is Pacing and Enjoyment

This flashback honestly is such a highlight. And the philosophical elements to it, the conflicted feelings of tiger. It makes it so interesting. Also random side note, Carson your hair is fire!

Tiger putting up the black power salute on his way out is so powerful
