pretty bad episode ngl, but I think we had a really good discussion

Sanji Joestar

That was the first time I heard it being compared to Saddam Hussein. I actually learned something knew when you mentioned it. I also recently realized the part where he calls out names and we see people react is added by the anime. But the ''list of traitors'' and him targeting them was still part of the manga. So it's possible it's a reference to that kind of threatening.

Sanji Joestar

Dosun is the onomatopoeia for a Hammer hitting something. It's a pun on both his weapon and him being a hammer head shark. The various levels just show his ''power level'' from something like a thud to a gong or something like that

Sanji Joestar

They mentioned Zeo being a shark fishman but didn't specify which kind. Specifically he's a Japanese Wobbegong Shark fishman.

Sanji Joestar

Daidalos, Ikaros and his fear of the sun is a honestly hilarious side story with the references lol

Sanji Joestar

So to clarify some stuff -In Impel down, Luffy's hair had white spikes because of the Ice. We can see it all over his body before the hormone treatment. There's a 1-2 second shot from the anime, where his hair is lighter while his body is silhouetted/blacked out in the shadows so maybe you're referring to that. Seems like a contrast thing since that same scene in the manga just shows Luffy's body and chains silhouetted in black) -At the beginning of this arc, when Hody's group mentions having the drug, they say they got their hands on something good. Whether they made it, stole it, acquired it from someone or etc, was unspecified.

Sanji Joestar

You're right, Hody is currently 30.

DesmaAlt Unboxing

I immediately thought about that cat after hearing "everyone" in the beginning, so it was even funnier to hear the reference a second later. W discussion

hussam abdelalim

Hody is not compiling as a character in my opinion although as a concept he is everything that tiger and the queen were afraid off, i thinkhe is more of a plot point than an actual villain, and I don't really think it would work with Arlong, because he doesn't harm fishmen to that extent, also his method of slavery was through manipulative tactics, so he will be "different than humans", by "keeping his word" and not using chains, the only thing he did that is the same as the world nobles directly, is putting his mark on nami

Artemis

From the manga's perspective, this chapter and the last one was probably the worst chapters in this entire arc. This was a point where the story kind of had some pacing issues. Oda was clearly stalling, before the focus was back on the MC. like in most arcs. Its only a problem for a few episodes as things are going to ramp up pretty soon.

Sanji Joestar

Interesting conversation about Arlong in the context of this arc rather than Hody. Can't say I agree or disagree at this stage of the story. It's a very compelling narrative there. But only one way to find out I guess.

Drakojin

Regarding the energy steroid: No luffy never had white hair in impel down/mf. The hormone just kept him going. Think like ibuprofen mixed with adrenaline/caffeine. It never made him stronger. The steroid is an actual fast acting steroid, pumping them up exponentially. At least that's how I interpreted it. And I very much agree that this is a mix arc of history, themes and very much "these are the new strawhats". Also I agree with other comments that arlong wouldnt work, although I get your point

100Rainy

This bit in the manga was pretty unpopular too if I remember right. A whole chapter spent introducing Hody's boys one by one and none of us could care less lol. When you consider the crew being separated since Sabaody and the month break Oda took before the time skip, by this point people were beyond eager for more time with the Strawhats.

Zoodinger

You're way ahead any other reactors I follow, which I greatly appreciate, so no idea about the Saddam Hussein reference on my part. Everyone else I follow is still in the summit war saga.

Khaleb1001

Better get used to the pacing, because its about to get even slower.

JoshVPlays

Feel like the enjoyed this arc mostly until this point still surprising nonetheless tbh

Bun_s_Life

From a manga's perspective this chapter was slow too. I think Oda just wanted to have fun with new villians he has made. He loves his quirky designs and puns. As for Hordy vs Arlong. I believe Hordy fits this arc well (you will see why later) so I wouldn't change it. But I also feel like he hasn't been elaborated on enough. As Carson says, we have only met him now, in contrast to other Fishmen whom we've met previously and bonded with (Jinbei, Hachi, Camie, Pappagu) or of whom we had an expectations set on from long ago (Fishmen in general, mermaids, Mermaid Princess, Fisher Tiger, the victims of the story of racism and Fishmen selling). Also many Fishmen we've only just met on the island seem a lot cooler - like Madam Shirley or the royal family... Hordy just becomes plain in comparison, while his crew seems like annoying waste of pen and paper lmao... Also, we are connecting with many other characters and get to meet a cool new ones. And then you add Arlong with whom we have already dealt with and moved on from into the mix... It would annoy me, I feel like it's an easier path to take as a writer. A boring one. Why? Exactly because the Fishmen Island was so hyped up and longed for from a long, long time.. If we had Arlong as the main villian in this arc, thus getting an old villian re-vamped, it would seem like a cheat to me: "Oh, hey. Here's StrawHats after a power-up. Btw, they are gonna punch Arlong in the face again, are you hyped yet? But it's too easy so let's get him pumped with weird ass drug that came deus-ex-machina. He's still not gonna be powerful enough but maybe just enough to not die immediately when Luffy hits him with Gear 3. So exiting..." 🙄 We know just how much of the gap between Arlong and Luffy there is. Well, not exactly, since we don't know where is current Luffy's ceiling but we know where Arlong's is. Enies Lobby's Luffy would be already enough to overpower him drastically. We know there is no match-up at all, and no suddenly introduced power-up tool is gonna make us, the audience, believe there is gonna be any fight. It would make any anticipation for a showdown nonexistent. While it wouldn't hurt storywise, since the arc is very story-driven and narrative, it is still shounen manga. The big bad guy must be establish as powerful enough and enough of a menace to make our guys shining with their newest glow-up. + I agree with Lindsey - this arc focuses a lot on what children and new generations are taking from adults who serve as examples. We have royal family who took from Otohime's example and Fishmen Pirates who took from Fisher Tiger's example. Royal representatives are mainly Shirahoshi and Princes, while Fishmen Pirate representatives are Jinbei and Arlong. BUT. I feel like taking Arlong out of the picture and introducing his followers adds another layer of complexity of human relations and the importance of raising the next generations. They are also closer in age to our main stars (like Luffy, Nami, Shirahoshi, Princes) Additionally, I feel like Arlong is constantly present in the story without him being there - he serves as an example of hatred and racism let loose and as a connecting point between StrawHats and Fishmen (mainly Jinbei). I would be super disappointed if Oda did that. Leave Arlong as a huge East Blue villian that comes up as a menacing presence in the background, giving context to the story. Do not make me be annoyed with him for just being there wasting our time...

Bun_s_Life

Me too. Haven't heard of it from other fans or reactors. But I don't watch that many so I'm not sure if you're the first, Carson.

Fabulous

Pretty bad episode? Get used to it from now on 😭. Rest of the arc is dogwater and bad pacing.

Arkham

Yep, I’ve watched my fair share of reactors and have been part of the community for a long time, but I have no memory of anyone else drawing that connection. I’d always figured it was just a normal fascist thing and even now I wonder if Saddam got the idea from another dictator.

Will.Har310

The one thing about Hordy that prevents you from just replacing him with Arlong is that with Hordy as the villain it gives Oda the chance to show the effect of the Fishmen’s hatred on the younger generation making them more extreme, which is a pretty big theme in this arc. You can still touch on that if Arlong is the main villain, but it would likely be overshadowed by Arlong’s story. With Hordy, it’s less about just one dude, and more about the Fishmen as a whole.

Mr Dude

i wish they do more episodes at once, atleast for this arc.

Lūthér Hölâyèãhmé

If you want to use One Pace, it would be best used for the next two upcoming arcs.

edgard

Switch to the redo for the rest

Zoodinger

He asked in this video if other reactors pointed it out.

Matthew Gilroy

That episode was fucking dogshit😂. Looked at the manga chapter and it was dogshit too. Oda phoned it in that week wasting panels on these TRASH new fishman pirates😂

Matthew Gilroy

Disagree with the Arlong point though. I feel like it's more poetic on the effect an environment of discrimination can have on a random nobody of the Fishman District like Hordy🤷🏾‍♂️

Matthew Gilroy

Good concept but regardless, doesn't mean I like wasting panel and episode time on this group😂.

ideo

No, One Pace is trash.

Oussama Essamadi

Back in Arlong Park, when Zoro faced Hachi, he was already severely damaged from his duel with Mihawk, just standing up was already taking a big toll on him, let alone fighting a 6 swords Fishaman swordsman. The curse of the pacing is starting to strike lol.

Oussama Essamadi

I'm glad a certain future arc exposed how bad One Pace really is.

Whoopsie

highly disagree

Cheddah Slammer

If I remember correctly this episode is manga accurate, and was to show off all of Hordys commanders, problem in the Anime is they already introduced and showed off his commanders lol.

Leighton

I wish they would just have condensed this arc. If they wanted to drag things out for time they should animate cover stories or something, there are plenty of alternatives

Kevin Croft

People who watch One Pace can't say they have watched One Piece. Because they didn't. They watched some trash fan edit that literally destroys Oda's work. Keep suggesting it to people tho man.

Kevin Croft

I love all these people complaining about pacing in a show that THEY ALREADY WATCHED. Why do you guys go into Patreons and cry about pacing in the comments when you can literally just skip passed it. You have already seen it. Plus people act like there weren't gaps of nothingness in Alabasta and Skypeia. Sometimes it feels like you guys wan't the reactors to hate it.

ChocoBoshi

I don't understand it either. People always feel the need to say things like "It gets worse" or "The rest of this arc is bad" any time pacing is even brought up. Do we think that they're immune to noticing the pace of a show without us mentioning it? I understand that people enjoy feeling validated for hating on things but this just isn't the place. No need to set such negative expectations when someone could otherwise enjoy what you personally don't. Critiquing something is fine, but hating on something that everyone already knows is an issue just ruins the vibe

ChocoBoshi

I cant say I've seen many reactions to the scene where Hordy starts to call people out but I doubt many other people made the connection to Saddam Hussein in the moment like you did.

Artemis

yes ive said this 100 times at this point but ill say it again. "one pace" is an unprofessional production edit. You can't just remove scenes from a timeline and call it good, you have to re-work story boarding sequences of an episode and then edit the scenes to create more consistent flow of the production. In other words you may have to even alter the timing and synce of the cliffhangers because the momenutm and builtup to the ending segments would not be the same anymore. But TOIE isn't much better either, at least the team that was involved with the FMI remake beacuse they also did a pretty sloppy job.

Matthew Gilroy

Agreed. Impel Down pacing was ATROCIOUS until the last few episodes too. Same with Marineford and Post-Marineford

Capitano

Yeah, but like everything in the OP anime they moved so slowly and filled an entire episode with them, so it flows even worse than in the manga (where it already wasn't great).

LaDarius

Pre time skip Luffy is 17, post time skip 19

Richie the Lion

It was around time when anime almost caught up to manga due to Oda's health problems and several breaks.

Solas

They’re not ever going to use One Pace stop bringing it up

esespats

About Hordy and Arlong - I like that Hordy isn't Arlong. Because I like that I can look back at Arlong and see him in a new light just like you said in a previous episode - not that I like him or agree with him, but that it gives a reason for him to be like that. I feel that Arlong's story has a nice conclusion in the flashback episodes. If he was here, I feel like he wouldn't bring anything new to the picture. With Hordy I can have a new person to unravel - why is he like that? I can decide on how much I hate him while Oda shows him. And as Lindsay said - he represents the next generation and a look to the future. How Arlong's legacy lives on and is represented through his followers. A different perspective that hasn't had a conclusion yet.

nofie

“losing his principles to reach his goals” What principles?? lmaooo I think you mean about hurting other fish-men, but he totally would stoop that low imo. I don’t know about arlong being there in all honesty, I think his story is a done deal. I agree with everything else though, having Vice Admiral Strawberry there would flesh out the story more.

Kevin Croft

100% but when someone from Patreon has something happen and they can't post for a week those same people grab pitchforks lmao
