LET'S GOOOOOO

JoyBoy

I’d love to see your thoughts on the controversial arc that is fish man island on a podcast.

Matthew Gilroy

This arc demands literary analysis and discussion. Do the podcast

Daemedeor

I think you should do the podcast. Not that there’s so much you could talk about but the fact is the next couple arcs are stacked within one of the longest sagas in the manga ever. Which will definitely need to be broken up.

Ariix

I think you misunderstood Jinbei's interaction, mostly cuz of the subs. The way he talked about it with Neptune meant that he decided to join ONCE he "finished his business" or whatever he told Luffy. That Luffy should ask him again next time.

Matthew Gilroy

This is why we shouldn't influence Boldcast guys. Because now they think everyone hates the arc when that is bullshit. Only casuals and smooth-brains do. There have literally been literary analyses done on the arc, for example from the likes of Merphy Napier, Aleczandxr etc. You know, the people with actual brains. Who knows what other arcs Boldcast will skip discussion for if we continue to downplay Oda's writing in the post-timeskip.

Matthew Gilroy

Take off the nostalgia goggles guys. This arc was way deeper than Enies Lobby. We should talk about it

Mo za

So many good episodes

Kaku 💫

Yeah would love to see a podcast even if its not as long as others its worth it.

Panagiotis Giannaris

I'm all in for a Fish-Man Island Podcast cause I love your discussions.

Capitano

I think that you should do a podcast if you think you have enough to talk about for a podcast. Also, I really think you should do the cover stories, I know I sound like a broken record at this point lol.

Matthew Gilroy

In an interview, Oda explained that the theme of discrimination that Fish-Men experienced from humans and the hatred that grew from it might not make sense to the average Shōnen Jump reader. However, points out that readers will start to recognize the heavy subject material laced through his series as they grow up. I guess the fanbase are still children and this arc went over their heads😂

Matthew Gilroy

So are we just not going to talk about the rich themes presented in this arc? We discussed Rob Lucci's shitty backstory, but not the backstory and complex history of the Fishman race?😂

BoldCast

I feel like you could make like a mini podcast, but it's not a must...

Matthew Gilroy

The Blood Transfusion narrator speech deserves a WHOLE PODCAST alone😂

Hassan sdk

I loved you guys' reaction to the arc, honestly i knew it was gonna be good way before you went into it, because i knew we can always count on boldcast to make interesting points and unique analysis. It was quite sad seeing one piece ''fans'' gang up on them for having differing opinions, and then having the audacity to call them wrong for subjective takes, like, hey guys, how about we see a different perspective for a change? BCast don't have to like every character you like or like every plotpoint you like. Thank god at the end it played out well without those people attacking you any further, that was a masterclass at handling crowd discontentment. This whole thing aside, the reactions were very enjoyable and your consistency was amazing, long live boldcast absolute cinema🤷‍♂️

Sonicluis

I all in for the podcast because of not this arc would get lost in the shuffle of the Next arc. A light small podcast would suffice to touch on what this arc gave us with all the lore and themes but it’s up to you in the end.

Phil

Hating on a mediocre arc like fishman island and downplaying Oda’s writing have nothing to do with each other. They overdid it but there is a reason the re edit of the arc has less than half of the episodes, it is a snooze fest from the start. Has nothing to do with Oda but everything with the fact that they stopped with filler episodes and instead stretched the episodes like Luffy stretches his arms.

IBG_Music

I love fmi, the pacing is the biggest problem for me.

Matthew Gilroy

Should be neither light nor small. They did one for Thriller Bark

Matthew Gilroy

Then tell me why Boldcast enjoyed Thriller Bark more than Enies Lobby? It's people like you who are causing a problem by influencing Boldcast just because you didn't understand the arc😒

Matthew Gilroy

Don't give me the pacing excuse people. You all said the same thing for Thriller Bark, and Boldcast enjoyed it MORE than Enies Lobby and gave it it's own podcast🤷🏾‍♂️

Oussama Essamadi

Would love a podcast on this ark man. Fisher Tiger's legacy deserves one, so much potential for a nuanced conversation. Loved this arc, I'll never understand the Skypiea/Fishman Island haters.

Matthew Gilroy

On a less intense note, 24:49 yes I agree Carson. Keep Jimbei off the crew for now. Avoid saturation. And then add him later

Matthew Gilroy

25:55 well remember there is an 'appointed time'. A prophecy. Shirahoshi is the ancient weapon Poseidon, born every several centuries. The Noah's purpose. Joyboy's apology. Luffy still potentially destroying Fishman Island. These are all things that could be talked about in the discussion in terms of the future role of Fishmen Island

Gogul Prasad

I like how the variance in decision making etc discussion all becomes obsolete immediately after unpausing the video

Matthew Gilroy

The upcoming World Summit will be the most important event in the Fishmen's history

100Rainy

That one song that played here and in the ending credits of "Fan Letter" really is peak. I'm not sure if you've been made aware of this or maybe found out on your own, but it's sung by the same artist who performed "We Are", the very first OP opening which gives it that extra special connection. A podcast per arc usually seems appropriate but honestly imo we've touched on nearly all the crucial topics and themes along the way. You gave us tons of great in-depth discussions already, so an entire podcast might actually feel redundant at this point. And also due to this arc's less than stellar reputation among fans, I suspect you won't get enough questions/comments submitted for a full pod. But who knows? Maybe I'm wrong on that one. Either way, I'm cool with whatever you decide. Just giving my two cents about it.

Necm93

I would love to see a discussion about Fishman island

Matthew Gilroy

You said the same about Thriller Bark

Matthew Gilroy

Could say that about every arc. Why is FMI being singled out?

Iris Mit

it's the first arc post time skip, i think a podcast would be good

StrawHatX

Watching Fishman Island with you guys was so much fun, and It looks like Carson in particular likes it more than most of the fandom do.

IBG_Music

Well It's more of a response to their comment about so many people disliking fmi. And yes in regards to pacing it's the thing that makes most of the arcs worse especially post time skip. But FMI was being singled out in this instance because that's where they're at right now.

pedro I.S

Not every arc, not water 7, not not arlong park, not loguetown, not jaya, not sabaody, not marineford, not the most recent arc

IBG_Music

what do you mean? Oh right, hence why I said most.

Artemis

Yes of course we want a podcast. This is one of the first stories in OP that carries a deeper message and theme for the wider narative of one piece, then any of the other arcs. I am deffinitly looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

David Butt

I'd like to see a podcast for this arc, Fishman Island is really underrated as an arc. People are always talking about pacing being too slow, which is why I switched to One Pace for a while, before stopping midway through a later arc because I find it poorly edited in a lot of places. Honestly the pacing, with the exception of 1 arc and a small portion of another arc, is actually fine. Take this arc for example, having finally watched the regular version now I can say this arc doesn't really have any pacing problems. There are only 2 areas where I think it's too slow, the final fight with Hordy, and the buildup after the flashback to the plaza, but that's only like 5-6 episodes.

Solas

I think a nice little podcast would be appropriate because if you wait to talk about FMI it’ll probably get lost in the shuffle when you get to the next arc

Artemis

we have been waiting hundreds of episodes for you to make it to the new world. The paradise sea is now behind us at last.

Will.Har310

If you want to keep the podcast focused on specific narrative arcs doing one for Fishman island now is a good idea, because without spoilers the next arc is pretty heavily connected to the one after it and pretty far removed from Fishman island. On the other hand, the arc after the next arc is one of the longest in the show, so in that respect it might be better to wait till the next arc, or else the next arc would most likely be overshadowed big time.

Artemis

I feel like connecting Jimbe to the big mom pirates added another dynamic to his character arc that further makes him even more relevant, because oda could have easily went the route of Ok we resolved the whole fishman island thing, we have jimbie and now he's ready to travel with us but instead the future is unpredictable and there is things that he needs to take care of. It just adds another layer to the story that deepens the mystery and intrigue of the series moving into the new world.

Arkham

I’d happily watch a podcast, but I wouldn’t be heartbroken if you didn’t feel like it

L.Joy

A podcast would be delightful :)

incinə

I think this is one of the most interesting arcs to have a podcast on. It’s definitely the most controversial. Some people love it and some hate it, but I genuinely think most of that hate comes from the pacing and anime difference rather than the story itself. Definitely has top tier scenery too. I personally love the arc in both the anime and manga, and I’m curious what you guys have to say about it. There would probably be a lot of interesting questions too.

I feel like the older you get the more you can appreciate what Oda was going for with Fishman Island but at the same time not liking the pace is understandable when the anime does things like turning a couple of panels of Zoro destroying pre-pilled Hody because he has to breathe into an entire episode of Zoro fighting underwater.

Ty

I haven’t watched the episode yet but I get the gist of it by the comments.I think you should do a podcast even though you have discussed so much during the actual episodes. I say this for a few reasons. 1. It’s always fun to get the community involved. 2. This is a unique part of your channel. 3. It doesn’t have to be long. Honestly even a 20-30 min rapid fire question podcast would be fun. 4. The community is pretty creative and might ask you questions you didn’t talk about during the episodes. I know you talked about doing ranking streams in the past maybe combine one with the podcast. Hody was a big talk during the arc so maybe a villains tier list? Just some thoughts.

Sanji Joestar

Perfectly wrapping up the arc. A podcast is more than welcome or else the arc might get drowned with the content of the next arc

David P

Why wouldn’t you do a podcast of one of the most nuanced and in depth shonen arcs about racism. Like honestly, name a better one about this topic! 🤔 And all the setup it made for the future? Seems silly to me to not talk about it just because people dislike the arc because not many appreciate the villain as a concept and what it represents, easy fights which is the point of training 2 years to get stronger and bad pacing from the anime, that is not the fault of the material being covered…

Mainque

I think a podcast of Return to sabaody+Fishman island would be good if it isnt a burden for you guys with your schedule , maybe like other coment said something a littlbe bit short and with some rapid fire question would be nice. If it isnt a "burden" and you wanna do a regular podcast (longer) thats cool too

Miguelangel Cuenca Pineda

Do a podcast, fishman island is thee worst arc for most people lol be as brutally honest with it and have fun with it

Matthew Gilroy

How many episodes was Luffy fighting fodder marines or the strawhats with that key nonsense in Enies Lobby?

Matthew Gilroy

Marineford pacing sucks There were moments when one attack was made and we panned to every named character's reaction shot😂

Drakojin

I also have to vouch for the podcast. Just regardless of arc, I really appreciate the wrap-up of your thoughts after you could sit with the finished picture for a while. I also doubt you will laxk questions from the patreon crowd. If you think there isn't much, than keeping it short and sweet doesn't hurt either.

Ty

This is an anime only perspective. Amongst manga only it is highly regarded. Among the booktube community it is very highly regarded. I honestly think it gets more flak than other arcs because its where a ton of people caught up. Looking at arcs like skypeia and thriller bark and enies lobby and impel down, the pacing isn't that much worse than those. Look at Baratie for example. Its usually well liked by the community but the anime pacing is absolutely horrendous plus the censorship ruins one of the best moments in all of one piece. The worst episodes of fmi is on par with the worst episodes in other arcs.

Miguelangel Cuenca Pineda

Your just wrong ive been reading one piece manga since fishman island lol the community has definitely regarded fishman as one of the worst back then and now lol

Ty

Up to this point I usually see it ranked above skypeia, thriller bark, impel down, amazon lily, whiskey peak, little garden, drum island, long ring long land, logue town, all the pre grandline arcs besides arlong park and baratie. Thats more than half the arcs. Also just because it didn't have the best reception when it came out does not mean now people dont enjoy it. Hell most people when they read/watched this arc were kids/teens. That leaves only the goats arcs above it. I also feel like it was a normal part of the community to hate on it obsessively because of the anime. Nowadays though most people who read it regard it highly. Like saying this arc is the worst for most people is insane when we have some of the arcs I listed above. If people truly hated this arc there wouldnt have been such a big backlash when boldcast talked about otohime.

Cheddah Slammer

I love the podcasts, and if you can't think of things to talk about you can always shorten it

stephanie

a podcast would be great!

Artemis

You guys are both right. It is an arc that has gained a very big pop-cult following in later years compared to how people viewed it at first. So, there is that unadulterated hate that follows it unfortunately like how skypia is now viewed with a very different perspective and fresh new eyes with greater insight into how it’s important for the story. Also, I think a lot of hate stems from the fact of its placement, it’s directly after a major saga and doesn’t do anything to win any awards in terms of upping the anti for the post time-skip story. I think audiences’ expectations are they want an arc where it truly reveals a power dynamic curve that is greater than that of marinford and we did not get that in this story at all. But again, power scaling wasn’t the point of this arc anyways and modern audiences understand that now. Take ennies lobby for example, which was absolutely revered as one of the best arcs in the series at the time when it first published. But now we look back at its simplicity and bare bones shonen formula with all kinds of cliché. It is an arc that has not aged very well amongst your theorists and reviewers. Whereas Fishman Island has done the opposite of that. While the action might not be the central focus, the Fishman Island arc is crucial for its thematic depth, character development, and significant contributions to the One Piece lore and narrative.

Copper Nickus

Personally I think a podcast would be worth it, mostly because I think the arc contains very heavy subject matter that lends strongly to the lore, but maybe it doesn't have to me a full length one.

Shortfin

I think a podcast would be a good moment of pause to get your thoughts on Return to Sabaody and Fishman Island and maybe some predictions for the New World. Especially since, personally, I don’t think the next arc will really give you a lot of room to discuss the themes introduced in Fishman Island.

Fabulous

A quick podcast is fine as long as it doesn’t take a lot of time out of regular schedule.

myridiann

There r some good topics for podcast if u want to. People doesnt like this arc/saga cuz some parts are slow and main villian is so lame compared to other arcs.

fia

podcast plsss

fia

i love fishmen island plspls

Gobbo

I just had a thought about Sharley's prediction. Maybe Luffy has to destroy Fishman Island in the future, but it'll be at a point where everyone has left the island and no longer needs to live under the sea. Idk why he'd need to destroy it, probably something to do with the ancient weapons and all that stuff
