Leave your questions for all episodes after the timeskip up to Ep 574! So All of the Return to Sabaody, Fishman Island & Post Fishman Island arcs! Be careful with leading questions, and make sure to only discuss what we have seen so far!

We are going to pause Uncuts for a couple days since we're a few episodes ahead of where we're supposed to be. shouldn't be more than 2-4 days at the most. if we take closer to 4 days, or take longer we'll do some cover stories to help keep things going. We'll keep you posted!

This podcast shouldn't be that long and will likely be a lot smoother than the marineford one, so don't worry. From there we'll pick up the counter again and continue the streak!

Why Roger could hear the sea kings

Daemedeor

After hearing all the pacing problems prior to starting, how do you feel about this arc as a whole? When are you thinking of watching the remaster (if you are)?

RanSim

What are your final thoughts about Madam Shyarly's vision? Do you think she was simply wrong for once or it will come true somehow in the future?

Zoodinger

What are your theories about how the ancient lore/prophecies connect to Luffy or the One Piece, if at all?

Kaku 💫

How do you feel about Aokiji leaving the marine ? I think Carson theorised something similar during post Enies lobby ( discussion of episode 315 ) if i remember correctly you were asking yourself if Aokiji 's personality and actions would get him demoted from his position, get him in trouble, bring conflict in the marine or if Oda would brush it off, if you could elaborate your thought now that you know he leaved the Marine on his own accord.

Sanji Joestar

I've been wanting to ask this one for a while but Since you guys loved Attack on Titan and are kinda halfway through One Piece, Do you have any thoughts on how the two stories tackle similar themes of freedom, will, fate, discrimination etc. and the importance of the sea as a symbol for freedom ? (I always found them very similar in their differences in some cases especially Luffy and Eren. Even if their execution and approach to personal and collective freedoms are very different.)

Sanji Joestar

He subscribed to a lifetime of the Poneglyph Audiobook

Sanji Joestar

This arc started with us finding out Roger had the Strawhat first, and ends with a kid wanting a Strawhat too Any thoughts on what that could represent for the story?

Sanji Joestar

What are your final thoughts on Hody, what he represents and the way the story approached it ?

John Ortega

Fishman Island, along with Skypiea and Thriller bark, are all arcs that get more hate than normal in the One Piece Fandom. Do you think there is a throughline between these arcs specifically that makes them weaker in some people's eyes?

Chriz

Hey guys I asked a question on the previous Enies Lobby discussion about Sanji and his "gag". Back then it could be more "justified" then it is currently, but thoughts on Sanji's character and Oda's choices for him, think it'll improve or spiral from here on?

Sanji Joestar

What do you think of the way Oda portrays Luffy's growth and strength post timeskip ? Him having a giant target to protect for the majority ofnthe arc, fighting fishmen underwater, knocking out 50k enemies etc..

Brad

What are your thoughts and opinions on the straw hats after the timeskip? Do you like the new designs and abilities that were shown off?

John Ortega

Otohime and Fisher Tiger are often interpreted as MLK and Malcolm X. What are your thoughts on this? And also, do you think this is intentional by Oda?

Oussama Essamadi

Congratz on reaching the post timeskip portion of the story guys. 1. Let's clear it up, opening 2 or the current opening? 2. If anyone would join the crew other than Jinbei, who would you guys want it to be and for what role?

Oussama Essamadi

He always renews his yearly audiobook subscription.

Oussama Essamadi

"Eren's dream is Luffy's reality" ahh comments incoming lol.

Sanji Joestar

In the anime/manga, our perspective on fishmen is limited to Nami's and the scope of the story back then. Fishmen being the ''big bad guy''(similarly to ''all humans are bad'' in FMI) And as we slowly progess, we start to see more of the layers peeling and just like Nami are confronted with the realization that it is kind of a '' oppressed becoming the oppressor '' situation. However in the Live Action, the presentation is a bit more direct, hinting at it. Any thoughts on the difference between those two approaches.

ImZeaT

Just here to be the nerdge and say that "Post Fishman Island Arc" is not something that exists 🤓🤓

100Rainy

Do you think Luffy's insistence on not being labeled a hero is contrived or is there actually some truth behind it? When directly asked if he's a bad person by Shirahoshi and the FMI citizens he dodged the question both times and also never bothered trying to convince them otherwise. He also adamantly rejected Jinbe's request to be a hero for his people. Does this behavior feel appropriate to Luffy's character? Do his actions in previous arcs support or contradict his stance on heroism in this arc? Or was it all just played as a joke anyway and it's not actually that deep.

weiweiwei

Opinion on the pacing of the arc now that you finished it? Personnally i think worst part arrives after the flashback when the fight starts

Iris Mit

what do you think about how oda used elements of Japanese mythology/folk tales in this arc?

Artemis

Despite some of its pacing issues, Fishman Island is a story that felt more complex, multi-layered and thematically focused. How did you like oda tackling such topics as prejudice, discrimination and social injustices amongst the fishman and human races. Do you think hordy being used as more than just a power scaling villain was a bold decision by oda? Do you think this story resonates more deeply with adult readers perhaps? And why the hell do people hate it so much? Big time Fishman Defender here!!

Matthew Gilroy

Thoughts on the themes presented in Fishman Island, and contrast / comparison of how these are presented in AOT and Vinland Saga

Bun_s_Life

In contrast to most fans I really liked Hordy as the villian who is just "empty". How did you feel about it? Hordy was exactly the thing Queen Otohime was scared of the most - a mindless hatred born from teaching of the previous generations who are always a role model for the young. Arlong's relentless anger seemed cooler to the kids of Fishmen Discrict than soft stories told by Hacchan for example so they followed Arlong's footstpes. That's normal behavior for children. This mindless hatred is unreasonable (as in opposite to Fisher Tiger whose hatred was justified and with which we can sympathize) and thus is a lot more destructive and scary. If we contrast Hordy with Arlong - Arlong would never raise his hand on another fishman while Hordy and his crew attempted a purge of the Fishmen Island. I would be very disappointed if we had a comeback of Arlong as the villian. We know his strenght - Luffy clapped him already with no gear 2 or 3, no haki, no nothing, at the end of East Blue. Having post-time skip Luffy fight Arlong would be ridiculous. Having him a bit stronger with deus-ex-machina drug would be simply a bad story-writing. Having an unknown fishman with deus-ex-machina drug is at least some kind of mystery in terms of power scaling. And this location was supposed to be a walk in the park for our enhanced StrawHats so having a real challenge here would ruin things as well.

Bun_s_Life

How do you view the views of Fishman Island? Is was a destination that was super hyped up in our heads so everyone had high expectations for how it would look like. Did Oda deliver or dissapoint? Personally, I really liked the design of it, it was beautiful, definitely one of the best locations in OP for me.

Bun_s_Life

So now we know there are 3 Ancient Weapons. I liked your theory of having a whole Solar System of them and maybe the Sun as the last one. I haven't thought of it before, I really liked it. Maybe it was an idea that Oda scrapped at some point. I believe Ancient Weapons will be a big topic of the podcast even without my contribution in a form of a question. But maybe this: Any ideas why those weapons were sealed off from history but someone decided to keep a records of them anyway on poneglyphs? If they are so dangerous that they had to be forgotten then why keep records of them? Why trouble with creation of poneglyphs (as a reminder - poneglyphs are seemingly indestructable)? Poneglyphs can be read by only a few, which seems to be a safety measure as well. But it would not assure that they won't fall into a wrong hands (e.g. Crocodyle using Nico Robin to obtain one of them).

Bun_s_Life

I think I agree - this story resonates more deeply with adult readers. I understood it and resonated with it a lot more on my 2nd watch-through.

megalazyguy

what strawhat do you think had the best glow up after the time skip

fccview

- What are your thought on how Oda handled Nami forgiving Jimbe? - What are your expectation for the story going ahead now that we're finally post time skip?

Monkey D.offy Lucci

If you two hadn’t watch Fan Letter, would it change your overall thought about worldbuilding and this saga particularity?

Abraham Lever

Did you guys like Hody Jones as the main villain of the arc? Or do you wish they would have brought back Arlong to be the villain again? Also who has had your favorite upgrades to their abilities on the Straw Hats so far since the time skip?

ViviMay

I'd like to ask what is your overall thoughts for the arc itself storywise? And how would you rate it as an arc in One Piece World. 😁

Ty

Oda has been teasing Fishman island for a while now. Did the location live up to your expectations? What do you expect of future locations?

Oshidi

Thoughts on Caribou and the Fake Strawhats?😂

pedro I.S

This arc ended with a lot of open ended ideas for the future. Like shyarlys prevision and caribou wanting to let someone know about Poseidon. How do you guys think luffy would eventually destroy fishman island and who do you think caribou wants to tell about the weapon

Fabulous

We have pluton which is a ship, Poseidon which is a mermaid. What do you think the last ancient weapon is?

ImZeaT

Yeah I don't know what was that all about lmao... But also, apart from East Blue, every single arc after that is the same thing as the fanmade one, like the division is the same, it's just the names that change, I wouldn't say that's entirely fanmade (the only part being fanmade is East Blue's division). So it's not like a Post-Fishman Island would magically appear either way... (I also think the "Island of Women Amazon Lily" part of "Island of Women Amazon Lily Post-Summit War Conclusion" could just be a mistaken ctrl+c - ctrl+v from Arthur)

Vince

Who was your favorite or least favorite fake straw hat? and how does Fishman Island hold up to previous arcs for you/was it a good "victory lap" or returning arc for the Strawhats?

Ty

Compare this arc to Naruto's first timeskip arc

Gralthator

What are your thoughts on Jimbe joining? Do you think he actually will, and if he does how long will it be before he does? How many strawhats do you think there will be when they find the one piece?

Jack Shadow

I have a controversial question: What SH post TS design did you dislike, compared to pre-timeskip? And what change of character didn't you like in terms of personality?

stalingg

If you were a fishman island citizen would you have signed Otohime's petition?

JoshVPlays

Cover stories you say 👀

Necm93

We are finally in the new world (shinsekai) what are your expectations here? Any predictions on how the next Island is going to be?

Fabulous

Thriller barc is not hated at all. It is jam packed small arc unlike the rest

charlie

I do hope we still just get some cover stories

John Ortega

I'm pretty sure Thriller Bark is longer than Skypiea. But maybe it's no as disliked as it used to be.

CEO of Tomboy Outback Steakhouse

With this arc showing a lot of similarities to Alabasta, how would you compare Shirahoshi to Vivi in terms of relevance to their own arcs and overall importance to the world/story.

Stick Haul

i don't see very many similarities to alabasta, other than the most basic elements that all one piece arcs share

CEO of Tomboy Outback Steakhouse

Both arcs have a princess requesting the aid of the strawhats and a country that is being usurped by the antagonists. While all arcs share a similar structure, I feel like albasta and fish man island have more in common with each other than the rest of the arcs.

Joe Kreigh

I'm confident this will be asked many different ways, probably more intelligently than I know how to, but what are your thoughts on how Oda handled racism in this arc? Hit or miss from y our perspective?

Albanese

Do you see a difference on the writing style now that we are post timeskip?

Gogul Prasad

What is the next episode to watch?

Artemis

One of the larger open-ended mysteries at this point in the story during the end of the fishman island arc, was the presumed notion that Shyarly's Prophecy could in fact come true. What do you think she is talking about when she states that luffy will destroy fishman island. What are your predictions and theories about this possible future outcome?

Fabulous

Were you guys satisfied with Hordy as a villain? Has he lived upto your expectations or were you expecting something else?

Fabulous

What is one piece?

Shortfin

You mean Shyarly?

Shortfin

I’d say alabasta shares more similarities with W than with Fishman island. In terms of story, themes, allies, and especially foes.

Shortfin

What are your thoughts on the in world changes after the 2 years? What are your predictions on what else has changed?

Radwan Rizvi

rank pre time skip sagas, not arcs: East Blue, Alabasta, Sky Island, Water 7 + Enies Lobby (one saga), Thriller Bark, Summit War

Artemis

nice catch, i didn't even realize that mistake. Hopefully boldcast will fix this, if they pick this Q.

Artemis

In terms of Aesthetics and cultural design, it’s probably one of the most distinct and beautiful places in the world. Also, somewhat alien compared to many locations you would see in a pirate world. At least that’s how I felt. Often fans don't talk about this enough. Good Q.

Artemis

Yep this is true, oda's catigorical structure is very different and what he labels as an "Arc" has different specific designations compared to a saga アーク (AKU) and usually consist of multiple stories. In japan most likely, a saga 物語 (Monotagari) when in relation to one piece, is more like the entire first half of the grand line or the entire spread of the east blue. As were entering the final 物語 saga in the manga, its not how we percieve a saga to be just one major island with a few extra intermissions or post stories. Its much bigger then that. Sandman sort of explained this distinction when oda was reffering to a story arc in the new world compared to the final act of the story in OP now.
