Just checked at the perfect time

We back! Peak Hazard time

Sanji Joestar

Welp Law time to change your government name to Tra-O

Sanji Joestar

The samurai being cut in 3 at the neck and torso definitely feels like a nod to seppuku since he also brings it up.

Capitano

Luffy has Observation Haki, he would know if Smoker was dead. Just like Koby sensed people dying, their "voices disappeared".

Matthew Gilroy

Chopper must be getting some imposter syndrome. Law is a better doctor, fighter, and character

Matthew Gilroy

We went from Chopper actually being a menace pulling up to the Franky Family. He was a monster in that scene and I loved it. He became a monster for Usopp and Robin, to now being reduced to merch, with extremely low iq not recognising the strawhats on Sabaody and eating cotton candy. Oda used to balance Chopper's innocence with cool monster-esque moments. Now he's just merch.

Sanji Joestar

This is just incorrect??? And such a false narrative that's constantly propagated I don't even know what part of this episode prompted you to go on this rant but it's just not true? Just an arc ago, ONE ARC, Chopper accepts fully his monster side, doesn't even care about becoming less human looking - as Zoro pointed out - and verbatim says he wouldn't mind becoming a monster for Luffy's sake. I'll say it, People look at Pre Timeskip Monster point with rose tainted glasses because it looked 'edgy' and 'raw'. But the truth is it was a hindrance for the crew. Powerful sure but just occasionally as it so happened to defeat Kumadori, could have been Franky instead, and if Nami didn't steal his key prior it would just be lost. He can't control it, can't even focus on a target and in Sabaody was completely useless AFTER he transformed. He was slamming the ground while the crew was being annihilated. I still don't understand why that version of him is so missed when the post timeskip Chopper who actually knows what he's doing, is helping and doctoring as always is regarded as a downgrade? That doesn't compute. And the whole conversation about how he is ''just a mascot now'' is also purposefully ignoring anything else he does because he looks cute? Why? Chopper being turned cute design wise already happened by the time we reached Alabasta/Jaya His current round and adorable features were already done by then. The anime just stuck longer to the older design so people think Chopper was suddenly cutified after the timeskip. Ignoring the fact that the anime took the opportunity of the timeskip to upadte many character designs to become more manga accurate, not just him. And there's literally no problem with him being cute. Every cute character helps merchandizing that's just how it is. It doesn't distract from his character nor writing but that false narrative somehow persists for some reason and i don't get it.

Ty

The arc you praise chopper in is the same arc he does not recognize Usopp as sniper king. This is just a funny gag for chopper. You say Law is a better doctor but we havent really seen him do anything besides patch up luffy?

Matthew Gilroy

@Ty, I acknowledge Chopper had some childlike moments in the past. But Oda used to balance these childlike moments with actual character writing and nuance really well.

Matthew Gilroy

OH MUH GOD MONSTER CHOPPER EXTENDED TO 5 MINUTES😱😂

Matthew Gilroy

@Sanji Joestar Chopper accepted his monster side when he joined the crew. He embraced it when he transformed into monster Chopper during Enies Lobby. Him being able to control monster Chopper for 5 minutes is a lazy development for the character after two years😂 Yes, monster Chopper was a hindrance for the crew at times. And it added nuance to the fucking character. Now, yeah he's "doctoring" reasonably well, I guess. (Is he really though? Jimbei stole his spotlight last arc, and now Law is🤷🏾‍♂️) There's been nothing interesting for him 80+ episodes into the timeskip outside of braindead moments. Hate to say it, but Chopper just exists now. And as a mascot.

Ty

You say he has been reduced to merch and low IQ. I'm telling you, he has always had these "low IQ" moments, especially around Usopp. He is a child, and gullible beyond belief. I like his progression of accepting who he is, AND being able to control it now. FMI had so little time for characters to really shine, so almost every Strawhat got little development besides in fights. Heck, your love Sanji has been reduced to perv jokes so far, yet I don't see you randomly making comments about him. I'm just confused why you made these comments when they aren't related to the episode at all.

shiloh

Stop crying over a raccoon man

Matthew Gilroy

Yes, I liked that progression of acceptance too. It was all pre-timeskip🤷🏾‍♂️ Sanji has developed a relationship with the talking head and wants to find Momonosuke. Go back to their dialogue a few episodes ago. It was actual writing. Subtle but rich.

Matthew Gilroy

Why? Are you Araki and hate animals? I'm not crying. Just disappointed in Chopper

Nicolas LeBlanc

What fell at the start? One of your many empty cans?

Ty

Chopper eating cotton candy is actually really subtle writing. You see what cotton candy represents is a fleeting moment of joy that is destined to dissolve. You see chopper ate the human human fruit and is now stuck in the cycle of capitalism, always seeking out these small pleasures that will never last. You should go back to those episodes and analyze it. Oda’s rich writing there is really deep and should be analyzed.

Oussama Essamadi

Nami knocking down Sanji in Franky's body and then crying about lol, the whole personality shamble is a trippy ahh moment.

Matthew Gilroy

No need to mock me. The Sanji scene is good. Sanji understands the value of fatherhood. I assume you remember his backstory? As I said, subtle writing, but good if you've been paying attention.

Adam Vialpando

It's like talking to a brick wall with you.

Adam Vialpando

Chopper was eating cotton candy on Sabaody pre-timeskip. He was having these weird innocent moments all the time. Heck, in his introduction he hid from Nami by sticking his entire body out. The traits you scoff at were always there. He was always cutesy. He is still both cutesy and also tough and has had great moments so far.

Matthew Gilroy

Like what great moments? Extending monster Chopper to 5 minutes? Again, how many times do I have to say I know he's always had cute traits😂 But he is not tough anymore. Don't know why you think THAT

Kyouki

Concerning the samurai’s fruit. It is nod to the tanuki folktales. Tanuki is a mischievous creature that can transform by sticking a leaf on their forehead, doing a backflip (lol) and than POOF! They are said to transform into human disguises to trick unsuspecting bystanders. EDIT!! Woops there is another folktale that the fruit can be a nod to (to be fare, a lot of yokai are tricksters XD) Kitsune is also an option!

Sanji Joestar

@Ty He also loves Cotton Candy because it looks just like Sakura trees and tastes sweet. Let the kid enjoy things🙂‍↕️

Sanji Joestar

@shiloh ripka He's gonna get mad !! he's a reindeer lol !!! 😂😂

Sanji Joestar

@Matthew Gilroy " Chopper accepted his monster side when he joined the crew. " Not true. In Enies Lobby, the reason he didn't want to use Monster point is because he didn't want to transform into that terrifying beast and have others witness him be like that. He literally says '' Please Nobody enter this room '' He didn't wanna get to that point as the monster is rampaging. His development wasn't 'Hop Fixed' the moment he joined that's extremely reductive and black and white. '' It's lazy development '' According to ? Chopper's literally growing into his own person and learns to rely on his own way better than previously where he'd always be scared to act. '' Jinbe stole his spotlight in doctoring " Because Jinbe gave Luffy blood ? That doesn't even make sense Is Chopper supposed to whip out some blood out of thin air? Of course it's gonna come from someone Are you gonna say anyone who is a blood donor ''stole" his spotlight? Law ? He literally didn't do anything either ? And either way in case you didn't realize various forms of medicine exist, from surgery to pharmaceutical treatment, scientific research etc. Other characters having specialties suddenly doesn't make Chopper irrelevant.

BOLDcast

The stream deck fell down the back of the desk lol

8:24 I think ur missing the part where Tra guy is also his saviour. So Luffy doesn’t care

Mo za

Tbf smoker was always wearing an open Tshirt/jacket

Artemis

Luffy often reacts in a way that is surprising and sometimes appears simple-minded throughout the series, but his actions are often driven by strong instincts and loyalty. He wouldn't ignore a genuine threat to someone he cares about. Though he doesn't consider smoker a true friend, he does have history with him so I think somehow he is aware that he is not in any mortal danger. Which also brings into question the real truth of Law's devil fruit becaouse obvously he is not killing them by stealing their hearts. Luffy might even realize this him self that law might not have malicious intent. Anyways thats where my mind first went when discovering this scene for the first time today. It is a unique perspective of luffy's character that has been conveyed through out the entire show of one piece, so thats partly what made me come to this conclusion.
