Sanji Joestar

Lol interesting title Oh right It's THIS episode

Matthew Gilroy

Zoro is the biggest fraud in this show. Promised not to lose again to Mihawk. Yet got humiliated by Kizaru and now offscreened by the Yeti Cool brothers💀

incinə

People always call me crazy when I say that I love Thriller Bark and Punk Hazard T-T

Matthew Gilroy

Yes Luffy is not Naruto. He's straightforward. And instead of talking to his enemies he'll punch.

Sanji Joestar

Messed up stuff after messed up stuff but this time it's even worse because it involves children Loving how involved and outraged Chopper is He loathes the use of science for evil especially when it affects others like this Reminds me of his hatred for Hogback

Matthew Gilroy

Yeah must be nostalgia merchants yapping about the pacing. It took 25 episodes from the beginning of the Sea Train segment to Luffy defeating Blueno

Sanji Joestar

Luffy really is an interesting character to dissect It's the subtle things that build his presentation for me He's no expert in medicine or drugs and doesn't know what to do, so he has no qualms referring to someone more knowledgeable than him to figure out what to do and lets his crew express their needs regarding a situation.

Sanji Joestar

Must be tiring watching anything like this

charlie

I really never noticed pacing issues my first time watching one piece so I really don't get the complaints

charlie

I swear that sea train part is such a chore to watch through lmao

edgard

The lows make the highs even better imo. You can only watch one piece for the first time once. Might as well just enjoy it. I call it seasoning not filler (most times)

Aidos Smagulov

I started reading manga while Punk Hazard was still ongoing. Each appearance of Yeti Cool Brothers had 'aura farming' vibes before that term even became popular :D

Cash driver

the yeti cool brothers are pretty chill

Alma

Yeah, i really don't get the excessive complaints about pacing around this arc in particular. It's not drastically worse than any previous run ins with bad pacing. What i personally believe to be the worst of the worst is yet to come, but i was also watching what i consider the worst week for week. I haven't really gone back and watched it as a whole since, so i'm curious to see if it's as bad as i remember it hahaha

Drakojin

As he stated in his fight against arlong. He can't do most shit that's why he needs help. Actually really early established.

Drakojin

Regarding pacing: It's oftentimes overblown how bad it is pictured. Many are in their xth re-watch and then you notice dragged out stuff more and more. Especially the things that don't heighten the experience at least a little. Personally I only got really bad qualms with parts of the pacing of the next arc and parts of 2 arcs after that.

Oussama Essamadi

Not Robin calling Franky out for ruining Chopper's cuteness LMAO. Nami Pairing Zoro with Sanji is top 10 big brain moves lol.

Camila

Yeah and I think this also shows that even when he doesn’t have much involvement in the problem, if his crew want to get involved then he will do it.

Iris Mit

This, plus on the morality front, across arcs we’ve mostly only seen Luffy act in response to someone he’s grown to like/who helped him out to some degree needing help, neither smoker nor the kids fit that bill rn so the closest thing he gets is supporting something his crew mates feel strongly about I think it’s a really nice way to reinforce his “not a hero” statement from FMI

pedro I.S

Thats a very high level of cope congratulations. How could they dare to only make good episodes right

Gralthator

I think the pacing for most of these arcs is only really bad for specific stretches of episodes, often in the middle of arcs. Things like the ball ordeal or luffy in the snake. Beginnings and endings of arcs are always good.

Jack Shadow

This is One Piece for ya, a story about everything including: rape, using children as test subject, human trafficing, genocide and so much more.

Over the years I've researched everything One Piece. I found it curious that Oda gave a formula for the drug, NHC10, and found it's actually not a real formula, it's physically impossible. In fact he scrambled the formula for something we all know as meth. (C₁₀H₁₅N)

Sanji Joestar

Oda addressed the topic of fictional names for diseases in a Sbs around Skypiea. Q: That "Conine" (from the Kona tree) medicine that Mont Blanc Noland made really exists, doesn't it? The other day I just opened up a dictionary and happened to see a definition for "quinine", which is made from the bark of a "quina tree". Is that the basis for the medicine in the story? P.N-Chief of the Top Secret One Piece Intelligence Gathering Agency (Quinine: An alkaloid made from quina bark. Works to relieve fever and stomachaches. Especially effective against malaria.) Oda: Yes. It does exist. However the "wood fever" that I described in the story does not exist, so have no fear. Covering topics about disease is always delicate, as there is always the chance that people will find it too upsetting or it has too deep a historical context. Therefore authors tend to fudge the details somewhat. TL:DR; He avoids directly referencing irl substances and diseases' names to make it more comfortable. That's also why he renamed Blood Types.

Sanji Joestar

Robin's love for Chopper gives me life

Stick Haul

getting kidnap victims addicted to drugs is historically the #1 insurance strategy for psycho kidnappers, i think oda had a veritable plunder of inspirations for that one

Kyouki

I love every beginning and ending of arcs. I tend to lose interest when the characters start to run for a good while or when the fights begins. Action is cool, but this is not why I follow One Piece. So I tend to like each arc evenly. Funny story: I took a 10 years break of OP and only binged the anime after watching the live action and I would always fall asleep during the fights but always woke up at the most critical moments XD It is really fun to rediscover the series and seeing how I like very different aspects of the story compared to when I was a kid/teen.

Briana Roop

To me, I can't help but reference the CIA program MKUltra, essentially lifted from Nazi experiments on prisoners of war using psychoactive drugs.

Stick Haul

one piece fan lifecycle: 1st watch/readthrough: favorite parts are the fights and the between-arc bounty distro 2nd watch/readthrough: favorite parts are the exposition and flashback sequences 3rd watch/readthrough: favorite parts are the jokes and funny faces

Artemis

That was a weird cliffhanger. Ok hmmm, im not buying it lol. Thats all i am going to say. There is no way Zoro of all people lost just like that two these two yeti brothers. Unless, maybe they got put to sleep? But I think something else is going on here and it’s the classic facade that oda loves to pull. In any case, good episode went pretty dark and just like I thought, these children are lab experiments, and their gigantification is one of the effects of a drug that ceaser clown is using on these poor children. I love the theory that carson brings up about the kids being nurtured and changed into weapons of war like the pacifista. That’s pretty twisted but the world of one piece is pretty messed up.

Artemis

Again, people focus too much on the numbers, and page counts when it comes to analyzing pacing and manga readers are notorious for this. They look at an episode adapting like 1 chapter and say its horrible pacing because previous arcs had 2-3 chapters per 1 episode. But there is alot more to consider, when it comes to an adaptation and you pretty much brought up a couple of those in the post discussion like the transitions and effects being used to heighten the scenes that helps create tension, tone shifts, ect. I am a first-time watcher of this arc and I have absolutely no issues so far with the pacing. I love it. I have seen worse pacing in this series, like ennies lobby or Skypia for example. Even as a weekly watcher, I still can't really see that much of an issue. I feel like each episode were getting some pretty steady content of the story. There was 1 previous episode that had 90% comedy but I didn't care because it was just the usual straw hat antics and it made me laugh out loud so it still entertained me. Nothing so far has felt like just straight padding/fillerish moments.

tavuntu

Most of the people you see complaining about pacing are just... well, picky people, people who like to complain just to look smart. I've been reading the manga and watching the anime since 2009 (I've repeated episodes and chapters so many times that I lost count) and yes, I've found bad pacing but I agree that this arc doesn't have much of it. I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't generalize. There are lots of different people in every group and the manga readers you mention are definitely just a small fraction of all the manga readers out there. Most of us actually know about pacing, story progression components, character development, etc :)

Artemis

I certainly have spent too much time on twitter haha where people are anticipating weekly reads all the time and a lot of that community will even state that pad pacing = fleshed out back story moments instead of heavy action set pieces. Ironically im a manga reader as well even though I made that generalization. I try to get people really to analyze the story rather than get caught up in adaptation's source canon. I’ve said this before many years back and I stand by this 100% but I truly think you can enjoy anime alot more if you have no expectations from manga because your mind is more open to really see the story for what it is instead of getting locked into this kind of "comparison" mindset. Like boldcast as anime only viewers. But yes, one piece I think is that kind of shonen where it can be targeted towards different audiences. I must keep that in mind. My experiences with boldcast are that most here are for the lore, story, theory crafters, whereas other communities primarily prioritize the "Agenda' side of things or power scalers. I respect all OP fans regardless of the way you choose to consume this awesome manga/anime.

Kiki Varas

I agree. I think it honestly depends on the person and the plot. I don’t care if they only adapt one Chapter per anime episode, As long as the plot and characters are interesting and it’s not boring I could care less about it. But obviously there are ppl who are gonna compare it and point out that it is technically slower pace. I just think there are some ppl who might genuinely find it slow and others that are just comparing it to the manga and saying that the arc has slow pacing even though it’s not that bad. Personally, I don’t care if they only adapt one chapter per episode bc sometime that can be done on purpose or sometimes it makes it better bc it can expand on the plot and focus on the characters and everything.
