Aidos Smagulov

Unfortunately, Gilgamesh’s words really got into Kirei’s head… and now he’s keeping Kariya alive just so he can suffer even more later - for Kirei’s twisted amusement 🥲 The English dub is definitely solid, but Ayako Kawasumi’s Excalibur scream is so iconic that the English version feels a bit off to me 😅 Rider and Archer’s argument about Saber was interesting to watch, serving as a continuation of their debate from the castle feast. Rider genuinely sympathizes with the heroes who placed their hopes in Saber, but he believes she’s unfit to bear those hopes. He sees her ideals as noble, yet ultimately doomed - bringing her nothing but pain. Gilgamesh, on the other hand, finds her struggle beautiful. As he once told Kirei, there are two kinds of pride: those unworthy of their desires, and those whose desires are too grand. Saber fits into the latter, and as Gilgamesh teaches Kirei - more suffering only makes them more entertaining to watch Thank you for reaction and discussion!

I like how you guys said you're looking out for potential influences on jjk and immediately find one lol. Tbf they're both references to a Buddhism. The original quote if I'm not mistaken is from the story of Buddha's birth. JJk uses the direct quote (the series has a lot of buddhist themes, a lot of the handsigns, the five eyes in buddhism in the six eyes in jjk, Gojo's awakening against Toji parralels with the birth of the Buddha) In more modern Chinese, the quote 天上天下唯我獨尊 has taken a slightly different meaning, where 唯我獨尊 now means someone who is extremely arrogant as if they're the most important person in the world. I suspect this is the case in Japanese as well since our languages have so much in common. Gilga only says the 天上天下 bit but his pride is evident. There's definitely a lot of things in jjk that they take straight out of other series but idk if this counts as one tbh (disclaimer: I'm Chinese but I'm not a Buddhist nor an expert in Buddhism.)

i like that the servants all have different matchups/ situations where they shine more than others, and that its not strictly class based but depends more on the heroic spirit summoned. lancer is better in duels, rider better in large scale battles, and saber for destroying fortresses and castles, and archer being a ranged fighter with destructive power as well.

I'm glad we are watching the dub i never knew it was so good lol
