Brook's voice actor really wanted to sing a song for nekomamushi so he wrote the song and asked Oda to include it.

That's not really what happened, Cho (Brook's VA) wrote and interpreted a song about a "Cat Viper" for fun, and Oda liked it very much and created Nekomamushi because of the song, not the other way around...

I think it's a song that Brook's VA came up with and sings for his own cat irl. When the Zou arc came around they included the song for fun

As you get further in the series, you will begin to notice that there is deffinitly more of a focus on brook's songs having more variety as opposed to the copy/paste of binke's sake.

The English Dub did such a good job with this episode! Brooks Eng' VA sounds SO fitting for the music it's Insaine. Definitely check it out, not even for the channel, just cause it's a whole vibe and definitely worth a listen. 🤟🙂‍↕️🎸🎶

To clarify since there seems to be some confusion about the song being canon or not. I just went to the manga and indeed, while short, Brook does sing this song with the lyrics as sang in the anime. The only part not in there is the repetition at the start and the characters saying 'is it just the same thing sang over and over again?' But all the lyrics besides that are in there, up to and including Robin saying she liked the song and the joke about it not being based on Cat Viper's true personality. You can find this blurb at the bottom of the manga chapter: Q: Nice to meet you, Odacchi! Is it true that the source for the "Cat Viper" who appeared in Chapter 806 is a song by none other than Cho, the voice actor for Brook? I am a super-super-super fan of his, and I'm so fascinated by this that I can't sleep after 10 o'clock!! Please give Cho all my best!! A: Yes. This book contains both the first appearance of Cat Viper, and Brook's song about him. Go ahead and search on Youtube for "Nekomamushi Song' and watch the video. It's sung by Cho, Brook's actor! The melody and lyrics were penned by Choko, his wife. He just happened to have sung this song years ago, and I liked it so much that I asked him, "Can I have Brook sing this song?" With their permission, the Cat Viper has taken life in the manga, although his style is a bit different due to story reasons. I can't wait to hear Brook sing this in the anime (laughs).
