Nami brings up a good point Ever since they stepped into the New World, it's not the linear path they were used to anymore Not once were they able to follow the Log pose Remember what Smoker said, Luffy should have had 3 options between the beginning islands in the New World: Risky Red Island, Mystoria Island and Raijin Island (The island where lightning literally rains non stop, Mad Monk Urouge was there before the Timeskip). Between the 3, Luffy chose none of them simply because he wanted to fish deep sea creatures so big they got absorbed into an underwater whirlpool and got out near Punk Hazard. Which then kickstarts the whole journey to Dressrosa and then Zou with Bepo's vivre card. That's why she was worried that they were off the right track. Also why I really love that conversation with Inuarashi complimenting her as a navigator. There's something more to this they'll come to realize apparently. Also this shows how the story structure changed further now that we are in the New World. In Paradise we would stumble into situations and see how we get there and see how that goes. In the New world where big pirates are already established, we advance with a goal in mind. The Strawhats actions are what dictate the path now!

If you follow the Log Pose eventually you'll get to the "final" island that every route leads to. On that island you then learn about the existence of the ponegliffs, Raftel (the "hidden final island"), the Void Century and the ancient kingdom. So then you're supposed to do the journey again, but this time looking for the ponegliffs and, more specifically, the road ponegliffs to find Raftel. That's what Roger did, he had to double back. However, the Straw Hats already know about the ponegliffs and the road ponegliffs, so they are already beyond that stage. They're technically already doing the second portion of the journey even though it's their first.

Simply by meeting Robin and Law, whether by chance or fate the Straw Hats have cheat-codes that allow them to skip the prerequisite of following the orthodox log path. Roger circumnavigated twice but with luck we won't have to more than once. However when Crocus warned Luffy to pick 1 of 7 initial paths wisely, Luffy said it's fine because if he doesn't like it he can just do it again, which is the moment we can tell Crocus recognized quality in Luffy, and it only makes sense now.
