SSSSSR REFRESH PULL

Lūthér Hölâyèãhmé

I actually prefer the English dub for this show. I love the European accents.

Never read the manga but I just wanted to put my own two cents in after that amazing discussion: Isn’t it interesting that in the same episode where we learned about these all white trees, the apprentices got transported away to an all white area? I’m thinking it’s like an Elden Ring thing where there’s some giant underground tree root network that are essentially the ruins of some bygone civilization The Brimmed Hat person might have brought Coco here to 1) test her and 2) subtly show her the “crimes” of the more modern witches. She got to experience this town full of witches living out their normal lives and now all of a sudden she’s standing in an empty city devoid of life and MAYBE the modern witches were the cause of whatever reduced that place to nothingness.

If magic was the cause of so many conflicts in the past and the witches were the ones to put an end to it by literally gatekeeping it from the rest of the world, it could be that their crime was essentially monopolizing some really abundant natural resource (the trees and the ink) If the place they got sent to isn’t some alternate domain or reality marble thing/spell and it’s actually the ruins of a civilization literally carved and built out of the tree network the Brimmed Hats’ whole motivation could be “hey Coco look at all of this magic here that the world naturally has, witches have subverted the natural law of the world and kept all of this away from humanity. Sure wars are bad, but was burying all of this really the ONLY option? Was it really the best thing witches could do at the time instead in a world of seemingly infinite options?” Just my crackpot and probably 10000000% wrong theory so far Loving the reactions!

Coming from binging your One Piece cover stories discussions, I definitely think you both will go bonkers if you ever decide to look into the manga after this season (assuming they will be taking a long time before making S2). Both series (OP and WHA) really excel at bringing so much to the manga format with their paneling. Oda I think is very good at perspectives and guiding the eyes on where to look as you read, so the action/story does really unfold as you go. While WHA's paneling tells a lot of subtext beyond what's already on the surface and treats it as the narrator (similar to that of using the camera as narrator in films; I forgot if there's a word for it). Anyway W discussion! And so excited for the next one. This mini arc is what set this series off for me because man do I love that magic stationery shop.

i definitely agree! this anime is great, but the manga really uses its medium so well

rune

Yeah, they put a lot of care on this adaptation and I'm really happy about it. I feel a bit :/ when I look at the community seeing people who want it to be 1:1 with the manga because of the paneling... and I'm like... that's not gonna look that good in this format (it seems they want an MMV out of the anime 🫠). The chase scene in this episode had such fun cuts and angles that need more recognition.

brushbuddy gives me takopi vibes sound wise at least lol

Dax22

some info stuff on brushbuddies that didnt get covered in the anime that was in the manga chapter about the Dadah range. "Brushbuddy Small creatures covered in fur not unlike the soft bristles of a writing brush. Attracted to the scent of conjuring ink, near which they are prone to gather."
