The frame of Luffy telling Jinbe to find him in Wano was used so much when people would be reading/watching One piece and encouraged to catch up. Love it. It's actually iconic.

'' Even if you die, don't die '' or '' Don't let even death stop you '' are pretty good translations of Luffy's final words to Jinbe. Peak. And with Jinbe this is the 4th leader/captain of a group Luffy recruits. Usopp and his Usopp pirates(yes yes) Franky and the Franky Family Brook and the Rumbar Pirates And Jinbe with the Sun Pirates. I love how much this arc says about Luffy as a captain.

The arc this reminds of a bit is Impel down: 1) Working with unlikely allies 2) Not really defeating the antagonist, 3) Leaving behind some one important 4) general escape narrative and of course Jinbei!

Thank you for talking about the arc structure! My BF and I both love this arc above all for all the stakes and the direness of the situation. It just feels so insane and different from everything else. Also the name of the Sun Pirates' ship is Snapper Head! One of my faves!! It's glorious and so so colorful.

I love how Oven randomly gets some sakuga gas near the end of the arc, someone on the staff was a big fan of that guy for sure lol. And on that note I'm glad it seems like you two are gradually becoming fellow Katsumi Ishizuka fans, even if you might not know it yet That amazing Oven vs Aladdin clash was done by him, same guy who did the one spectacular cut of Sanji kicking Daifuku's Genie during the crashed wedding

Ouch poor Zoro got left out of the Worst Gen montage lol. Like alright cool we BEEN known he's not trying for Pirate King at all, but big bird Morgans should have no idea. To him the whole Worst Gen all got the same potential, even including Killer who's not a captain. So idk it always felt kinda odd to not mention Zoro at all there, not that it really matters.

Actually, the part where he actually names the members of the Worst Generation (instead of just calling them WG) is anime original, so it wasn't in the manga. Plus for the release of the Blu-ray/DVD, the scene was fixed to include Zoro. So, no foul at the end of the day!

The Sun Pirates are really some dogs bro. Fighting off an emperors fleet in their home territory, even for just a few minutes is crazy. Also I love how one piece respects boats and consistently makes them mean so much more than just a floating bunch of wood, it’s an interesting quirk of one piece that I really like.

Very powerful scenes of the Sun Pirates. Wadatsumi - a child - sacrificing. Fisher Tiger's ship destroyed. All for the sake of Jimbei's dream to be free and join the ningen Luffy's ship. Would Brother Tai be angry about this in his grave? Probably not. While he could not accept humans, he recognised this as his flaw. He wanted his true ideals to be carried on by his trusted companions who live on. Wadatsumi should never have had to be groomed by Decken and fought against us at the Fishman Island. We see here that he has noble and heroic traits. Good-hearted Aladdin should never have had to sacrifice and be in this predicament we see here. Jimbei should never have made the decision to stay behind and protect the Fishmen due to his self-sacrifical nature caused by his inherent self-hatred which stemmed from the tragedies of his past. But this is what racism and discrimination causes. This is how it affects lives. It is sad and pointless. "We all bleed the same red blood." "Cutting these blood feuds will surely lead to a path toward the Sun." - The great narrator of the beautiful scene at the end of the magnificent Fishman Island Arc.

So as much as I have a problem with the Luffy vs Katakuri fight, as well as the Scooby Doo-esque stakes after the Chateu falls, the stakes do come back at the 11th hour, clearly, and Oda returns to his thematic and beautiful writing. The end of Whole Cake is very good

I'm sorry but merch is totally irrelevant here. Like genuinely. Sometimes it's even misleading and shouldn't have any bearing on the story. Even Law has more merch/shows up in more promo than some Strawhats. . . . Spoilers for Boldcast . . . And even AFTER **** it took a while before he was properly integrated in those too.

I think out of all the Charlotte children, besides Katakuri, Oven probably deserves it the most. He's kind of made himself the most consistent threat to the Straw Hats escape so far in multiple ways and his devil fruit seems like the most dangerous.
