Great reaction, personally I think your reaction wouldn't have been as strong had you followed the events the way it was shown in the series. TOIE decided actually to incert an extra clip of him transforming which really undercut the amazing reveal at the end. Now you experienced it just like the manga.

In the manga you can see just how massive kaido is from the perspectives that the panels are drawn. His body stretches for miles. Thats why even though kaido is looking at the strawhats direction he cant see them because of how far away they are

I like how you guys are used to the enemy being setup as the final boss in most arcs, but oda completly subverted that trope and said nope 'were fighting kaido now' lol

In the manga there are no cuts to Kaido at all, he just shows up at Okobore town when Jack and Shutenmaru are fighting. The first thing we see is his hand descending from a storm cloud and we don't know what is happening until I believe Law reveals who it is. I think it can be good to have the anime add context or in-between shots/scenes but in this case I think preserving the original reveal was better and im glad you guys agree.

I remember when this dropped, the immediate reaction from most readers was, 'Shenron just entered One Piece'. It makes sense, given that Kaido’s design draws heavily from the same Chinese mythological roots that inspired Dragon Ball.
