In cases where people don't use an obvious devil fruit ability that could change a fight I assume that either the anime is extending what was a very brief interaction in the manga, and so they don't actually get a chance to do it in the canon, or there's some other reason. For example, here it could be Law thinks it wont work and so he doesn't want to reveal himself while doing something pointless or he may think it *will* work but that it still won't make a meaningful difference and he's just hoping that Luffy will snap out of it. For some reason on my 3rd viewing I'm definitely in the camp of "Hell yeah Luffy, kick his ass!" where as in my first viewing the entire time Luffy is fighting I was hoping he would come to his senses and run XD

Yeah, around Whole Cake it seems like Toei stopped producing filler episodes, and even heavily slowed down on lingering pans and excessive reaction shots, while simultaneously boosting the animation quality a few levels. Maybe the budget increased, maybe the next generation took over. But they still had the problem of catching up to the manga, and the devil's bargain they took is that they would fill time by extending fight sequences FAR beyond where the manga went. Single panels become five-minute gorgeous fluid fight sequences; a line of dialogue becomes a flashback of cinematic quality. One consequence of this is that canon fighting capabilities become.... Dubious to a show-only member of the audience.

I know it’s controversial where Peak-Piece starts… imo this is the start where there’s VERY FEW episodes that aren’t epic or emotional

If you were an anime only and look at these episodes as purely from the perspective of someone without knowledge of the manga, you honestly wouldn't find anything wrong with it. Thats the trade off in terms of expanding the material and keeping a little bit of a buffer so the anime doesn't catch up to the manga and personally i prefer this kind of direction over excessive reaction shots any day.

Back in Punk Hazard when Law was fighting against Vergo, Doflamingo said that his devil fruit would not work due to Vergo having stronger haki yet we see Law's powers still cut Vergo. For many years, the fandom believed this idea that some devil fruits like Law's fruit could bypass haki however once you realize that Law was also using Haki and that his haki was stronger than Vergo it makes so much sense Especially in Dressrosa where Oda also highlights this rule again with Zoro vs Pica

It is, especially because he can't, I don't care about animating fights, that's a good thing that the anime can do, they can add context to the fights as well. But when they completely change the story narrative, it's annoying. Whatever, it's not that important but it just feels like fan service for the shake of it. Which is better than the bad pacing that we had before for sure. But it's things like these...

That fight is garbage. It seemed that Luffy had even a slightest chance against Kaido. In Manga I think Luffy just landed 1 good hit, the first one.

Toei is stupid, because they could just use cover stories when they need filler it's that simple and the cover stories are canon. They've done it before with Buggy and Wapol.. they do it again later but I'm not going to spoil anything
