The art style vividly reminds me of the 70's sinbad anime used to watch it in the 90's in Arabic dub, didn't know it was anime back then

JAAAAADUGAR I hope u guys will react to nippon sangoku at some point

Carson actually cooked with the Oscar comparison. They always would have crazy animated foreign films that have 0 percent chance to win vs the Disney behemoth, but always looked cool and unique.

So for some historical and geographical context: The setting is the early 13th century, when the Mongol Empire was drastically expanding. They amassed massive amounts of land from nothern asia and, at the time of the show, are invading Persia as well. We start in Tus, which is current day Iran and former Persia. The blonde slave said she comes from the west near the sea, and with her hair being blonde, it'd make sense for her to come from the Levant - during this time, the crusader states were being established and a lot of European settlers came to the region (and in general there were lots of European traders there), though thats not confirmed and just my own thought. I also love how the series tackles darker topics like slavery - we see it through the eyes of the characters, so its portrayed as something normal, while also clearly showing the negative effects of it, even if the characters themselves don't directly point it out every time.

Her being Greek from the Byzantine Empire or Slavic is also possible judging by the name of her Brother Mikhail.

Ariix

Very true, and her name was used in greek as well. Hard to say because the names also have arabic ties.

Same!!! It was either on Spacetoon or Spacepower; I don't remember, but it was one of my favorite cartoons alongside Adnan Wa Lina!!

hussam abdelalim

Yes but I remember it before the days of spacetoon, and satellite TV, I think it was running on a local channel, we had like 7 or 8 channels 😀
