One of my favorite manga panels! But I think it's episode 1015 that's one of the best One Piece anime episodes ever made, which reflects manga 1000 if I'm not mistaken!

There is an undeniable weight and presence to 1990s and early 2000s anime production because every single frame was a physical artifact, meaning basically every object on screen had to be treated with the deliberate care of like looking at a painting. That kind of compositing hand-drawn cell animation you had back then which oozed so much color and contrast which created such distinct high quality detail in the backgrounds and I think that is mainly one of the larger differences to modern day production visuals Anime today focuses more prominently on animating the action sequences but it doesn't quite have the kind of detailed colors and line art, you come to expect from cell animation. It was really a different era. Now that's not to say modern digital production isn't fundamentally broken. Example Blue Box has extremely high detailed backdrops but it uses a very different technique of creating real photography and 3d models with highly sophisticated digital camera lenses to create those almost life like backgrounds. Different techniques i guess. This style of design is absolutely unfeasible for a series as long as one piece how ever. TOIE tends to pour more money into there action scenes rather then there backdrops.

This episode may not have adapted the 1000th chapter but if they had to slow down the pacing here and there to get here this was the absolute best spot to land Ep1000. The Strawhats gathering up is just epic!

Congrats on making it to episode 1,000. Also wtf is Toei's fixation with putting Sanji next to Nami in practically everything? Like If Sanji does something and Nami is in close vicinity, Toei 90% of the time has her saying Sanji kun which doesn't happen in the manga ? Heck ive seen Luffy and Nami interact more in the manga which is crazy because Toei does the opposite. Can someone explain why or has an idea as to why ?

Man, I miss chopper's and especially Robin's old design. And I agree with carson that the old colors, especially the backgrounds, were so nice back then. But the recent increase in animation quality often makes up for it!

I love how the anime looks in Wano and after Wano, Toei are knocking it out of the park so consistently, I couldn't possibly complain. BUT, the style back in Thrillerbark is timeless. I would have been happy with that forever. They cheaped out hard in post-timeskip outside a few moments. I hated how the anime looked from Fishman Island to Dressrosa honestly.

Probably something to do with their animators choosing which characters or scenes to animate. There’s a giga chad Zoro fan who animates every Zoro fight scene and that’s why Zoro has insane crazy fights. Meanwhile Sanji basically has only haters/they love his simp trope which is why it so played up in the anime compared to the manga😭😂.

I think my favorite part of this episode was Zoro hitching a ride on Luffy to get to the roof. After all the times Luffy has just grabbed him and jumped off a cliff or something, it's so neat to see Zoro just embrace it now like "Oh? Yeah, I'm coming too"

I don't know man. The style of Wano Act 1 and 2 was looking like a watercolour picture book at times. I'd take that over Thriller Bark anyday. Episode adapted a mid chapter, so not Toei's fault. They did the most with the material. Much better things to come. So don't feel like you have to please us with your reaction to this 1000th episode. Recent episodes like 994, 995 were much better. Heck, even 1001 was better. And as for the future...

It is still considered the best by many, not for a fight or anything but rather for the fact that it is dedicated to One Piece as a story and connects a ton of things through the last 1000+ episodes and ties a ton of themes together, plus the animation and direction are insanely good and there are zero repeated animations or recaps. They intentionally threw everything they had at it because it covers Manga chapter 1000 which was a super special chapter. IMO certain other episodes come somewhat close but there is only 1 chapter 1000 and that content is shown in episodes 1015. Even the G5 reveal later in Wano (another goated ep) had some repeated animations and recaps despite it also having gorgeus animation and a ton of special love and care as well, still was not as tight and perfect pacing-wise as episode 1015. It's the kind of episode that is good because of how important it is to the story and it's themes and characters and its emotional direction and not because of any sort of epic fight with the strongest villain yet like many other animes "best episodes" tend to be.

Did you forget the background and environment during Yasuie's death speech? Amigasa Village where Tama took Luffy? The river where Kanjuro and co travelled through on their way to bury Yasu's remains? The snow region of Ringo holding the graves and swords of the fallen during Kawamatsu and Onimaru's story? The maple region of Hakumai during Zoro and Hiyori's travels? These are but a few of many examples that you can point to in Wano that clears anything else prior to it. Don't let the recent Onigashima halls make you forget the Land of Wano itself

Oh no don't get me wrong, there still are many amazing backgrounds in Wano. I just love the old style and colors more, it's just personal preference.
