Hey everyone!

I want to share an inside look at the current workflow we're using to release new game builds. This diagram shows the steps we follow to ensure that every version goes through careful updates, from internal tests to public releases. Your support as patrons means a lot, and I hope this gives you a better idea of the behind-the-scenes work involved in each update. Thank you for helping make this possible!

Here's a description of each step:

1. TME ready to be compiled in Ren'Py

At the end of each dev day, if I’ve made changes to the code and they seem stable enough, I get the game ready for compilation in Ren'Py. This ensures we’re not running into game-breaking bugs at release.

2. Secret Itch (Tier $12): generate post link for the new version

I create a post on our Secret Itch page for all $12-tier patrons. This post is where you can share feedback, report any bugs, and tell me your thoughts on the latest version!

3. TME: add a link to the Itch post at the end of the scene

In the final scene, I add a link that goes straight to that Itch post so you can easily jump in and share your thoughts.

4. TME: compile and upload via Butler

I use Butler to compile and upload the game to Itch. Butler is a deployment tool that helps me streamline uploads and keep versions organized.

5. TME: compare changes (lines of code replaced, number of images modified, etc.)

I keep track of what’s been updated—whether it’s new lines of code or visual assets. This way, I have a clear record of each release’s unique improvements.

6. Secret Itch (Tier $12): update new version post

After uploading the game, I update the original post with the accounted changes.

7. Is it a Milestone Release?

If the release marks a big achievement, like new features or key scenes, it’s a “milestone.” If not, I’ll stick to a regular workflow. Depending on the answer, I’ll take one of two paths:

------------

Branch A (Non-Milestone Releases):

8A. TME: generate Screenshots and Gifs

I create snapshots of the latest features and scenes, perfect for sharing in future posts and promoting the update.

9A & 10A. Patreon Tier Content

Free-tier patrons get a peek at the SFW content, while $3-tier patrons get exclusive NSFW previews.

11A & 12A. Censorship and Banners

Using Clip Studio, I’ll censor any NSFW parts for public display and then create eye-catching banners for Itch.

13A. Public Itch: Create devlog containing SFW and NSFW banners that link to Patreon posts

I post a devlog with the new banners on Itch, linking to related Patreon posts for any extras. This way, people on Itch can get a taste and maybe become patrons themselves!

------------

Branch B (Milestone Releases):

8B. TME: Recompile using the public version format: [YYYY.MM.DD] + compare changes since the last public build

For milestone releases, I recompile the game with a new public version format and record changes since the last public build. It’s a versioning system to keep things organized and transparent.

9B. Clip Studio: Generate banner for the new version of the game

I make a special banner that highlights the milestone update to generate buzz on Itch and across social media.

10B. Patreon Tier $6: Post Banner and attach current game version as early access

The current version goes out as an early access release for $6-tier patrons, complete with the new banner.

11B. Patreon Tier $6: Create a survey containing three options for improvements for the next cycle

Here’s where it gets exciting! I’ll create a survey for $6 patrons with three options for improvements. This way, your input helps shape the next release.

12B. Wait Four Days

There’s a four-day wait for early access, after which the game goes live for everyone. This period gives $6 patrons a first look.

13B & 14B. Public Itch Devlog and Upload

Finally, I’ll post a public devlog with the new banner and invite everyone on Itch to become a $6 patron and participate in the survey, then upload the game for all to play!

------------

And that’s it for today!

Thanks so much for following along with The Martin Experiment’s release process. I hope this gives you a clear picture of all the steps involved and how each of you plays a part in making the game even better. Your support, feedback, and enthusiasm mean the world and truly drive the project forward!
