Speaking of triangles...

Micah & I have watched plenty of people raid tombs, but we've never actually watched the Tomb Raider movies! After going through the National Treasure movies and hours upon hours of various Librarians outings, we're pretty sure we'll feel right at home.

Angelina Jolie stars as the titular (heh) Lara Croft in the original, as well as its sequel The Cradle of Life, and passes the baton to Alicia Vikander for the woke* reboot. Featuring The Man of a Thousand Races himself Jon Voight, one of the James Bonds, and less tombs than you'd expect, these movies take us on a thrilling journey through the changing times of video game adaptations!

*less focus on boobs 🙄

I remember liking this film, and I still think it’s pretty solid, at least more than some of the Angelina film moments. I do agree that it’s a little lax in unique ideas, but none of those things were part of the games apparently. The bow and arrow is from at least 2010 I believe, as is the inclusion of Trinity. After the original games, the early 2000s did the pendulum swing of more survival, hence Lara Craft’s No Good Very Bad puncture wound and such. Please do not waste your time on the Uncharted film. I’m not a super fan, only played half of maybe one game, but it’s such a void of content, and not even in a funny way. Motivations don’t make sense, props move around, and they do the thing from this film where they reference scenes from the games but do them, surprising surprise, boring and dull. The CGI looks even worse than some moments, like not even Ready Player One level. Psyched/frightened for the Croft show, where I’m hoping someone actually does say something close to ‘you wouldn’t raid a tomb’, especially if there’s a butler character or something who dislikes Lara.

eric you ARE saying alicia's name correctly (uh-lee-cee-uh) and she is NOT british but she IS swedish!

Yup my memory of this was accurate. Just alright. The most memorable thing about it is how fit and sweaty she was for much of it, and tbh if she was neither of those things I don't think I'd have remembered most of what I remembered

Thomas Degroat

it's definitely better than Cradle of Life, but you're right, its missing cheese. If this just had the tone of The Mummy 1999, this would be an instant classic.

Morgan Peters

don’t know what i need/want more: you & micah doing a let’s play of tomb raider or a you wouldn’t raid a tomb shirt

Ben Black

The video of Walton Goggins turning around and seeing the monster you were talking about is from Vice Principals, the Danny McBride show

AuthenticApathy

Never abandoned a show, huh? Just haven't come back to them yet, eh? Then I eagerly await the rest of Netflix's Iron Fist.

yeah this is way more of a direct adaptation of the 2013 reboot game than the angelina jolie ones ever were of the original ps1 games but like you said those ones didn’t really have much story to adapt lol it was just tombs, guns and lara croft. in this tho, the outfit is an exact recreation, the bow & climbing axe, the island, himiko’s tomb, the boat crash, the whole sequence on the plane wreckage, her first kill are all pulled from the 2013 game. even her saying “i’m not that kind of croft” is a line from it lol and the villain reveal at the end is from the 2015 sequel. it’s like a weird mesh of the first two games tbh. but they do change a ton particularly her dad is super dead in like every game lol no matter the era. she never finds him alive ever. she also never refuses her wealth in the reboot and i imagine that was something they added to this to make her more “relatable” which.. i guess. the new game coming this year is the first new main line game since 2018 tho 😭 there has been some remasters of the original games but that’s it. now this new series is supposed to be like.. a mash up of multiple timelines. woke lara meets asleep lara!

I forgot to mention that imo Sophie turner is an awful actress. She's one of those actors where they were good for their age, but never really got much better. So they're just an adult with the ability of a decently talented 14 year old. Not really up to the standards of an adult. But I don't like most things so 🤷

Eric! Obviously you know Daniel Wu from Reminiscence featuring PT Barnum and Jenny Lind that you watched with The Showmen! You played Stuber Bingo and that's the only thing I have any reminiscence about regarding that movie. That was over four years ago, by the way. High time for a new Stuber Bingo track, in my opinion. Honestly, you could do it for Uncharted, since it's such a by the numbers, nothing movie that you might actually fill the entire board. Also there is an animated Tomb Raider show on Netflix of which the second season came out just last year, but without having watched it, I don't think it a PMI kind of show.

Leezzyzz

I gotta be honest, loved the Tomb Raider reboot games, but only watched this movie for my fellow Swede, Alicia Vikander, Tomb Raider för kung och fosterland! 🫡🇸🇪

Drew

"Pretty much it hasn't abandoned anything." I guess you guys have to finish the Netflix series of unfortunate events then.

It’s so funny when Micah is like no one is going listen to this track as if people aren’t apart of Micah nation.

Arthur Edington

This movie was always gonna take itself way too seriously because the games it's adapting took themselves too seriously. That was the big problem with the most recent games.

Arthur Edington

Also i need to add that the movie removed all the supernatural elements from the 2013 game, Himiko was a ghost who would shipwreck boats to the shores of her island and would use her powers to keep people from leaving the island. she also had a supernatural zombie army called the Oni.

Eric really is turning into "old man yells at clouds" 😂 I appreciate that Micah at least tried to have a good time. You gotta lighten up on these tracks, my guy Striff!

Tyler Tennis

45:14 Walton in thus was such a fucking surprise

Tyler Tennis

"Let's Play's" would be such an unexpected yet interesting change to PMI

Amal

maybe Micah thinks he saw this before, but he is actually remembering Guy Ritchie's Fountain of Youth?
