Ooooh little white Mike…

Almost a decade ago, Pennywise emerged from the sewers to terrorize Mike from Stranger Things, and then returned to do it all over again after he became a man! Andy Muschietti's take on Stephen King’s IT may have been a lot of fun to see in theaters, but do both movies still hold up 27 years later? Okay maybe more like 8 years later.

Before diving into the recent prequel series, I enlisted the help of my favorite scary movie companion Kevin for his first experience with the dancing clown to find out if these movies warrant being almost five fucking hours long in total or if maybe we coulda just skipped em.

maseken

It's crazy there’s ANOTHER "let's go girls" needle drop from yall in this track with Kevin. I loved that moment from the scary stories track haha

Steevn Sonder

Just like you with the Mikes, there are two Henry’s in this for me; the bully and the book of

lexi

more clown hate on this channel... when will it end 😔

Laura

i also can't stand the way andy muschietti's use of cgi waters down the scares and makes them look goofy sometimes but there really is something about the world of IT that i really like. excited for you to watch the show and it's really fun to have kevin for the movies having no clue what to expect!

carlitoast

carlitoast

I just had a reality check, This movie came out when I was a freshman and that was really 10 years ago 😭 also means im coming up on 10 years watching pmi 🥹 Time really does fly

Abby Mason

My mom loved the original 90s series but was always terrified of Pennywise. When this came out, she promised to come to the theater with me and then spent the entire film squeezing my hand and screaming. She left bruises! It’s a special memory

Krista

You’re right about them giving all of Mike’s characterization to Ben (eggboy), in the book he’s like the historical one that knows everything about derry and kind of guides the narrative and for some reason they gave all of that to Ben I truly do not know why, this movie seemed to want him to be the main character for some reason

jules

oh my god what a TREAT i was just thinking about rewatching these movies again and seeing how they hold up

Julia

loved this track, can't wait for chapter two! btw i came here from the audio track to check the haunted hallway security footage at 1:27:38 so this is me being the reminder for it

Anthony Baca

Can we please get some new music recommendations in Chapter Two? I haven’t listened to a thing since 2015!

Amal

By the way, the IT movies and the new series are filmed in Port Hope, Ontario which still has the older style architecture in a lot of areas. And that's pretty much tits...

Dane Yurchak

This movie is so much duller in comparison to the new show.

this was the movie that got me into horror movies and it’s now one of my “comfort films” that i go back and rewatch a lot, love it so much. when i first saw it, i was more scared of IT/the concept itself rather than the movie actually being terrifying, and now i just consider it a spooky nostalgic coming of age movie. cannot wait to watch the it chapter 2 commentary!!! i don’t think it holds up as well/is as good as this one but excited nonetheless to revisit it again!!!!!!!!

Saw this in theaters and my favorite reaction from the audience was during the projector scene. That’s the only one that got me and it made it so much better cause the audience was freaking out at that part.

joe shmoe

I went to watch the original commentary when welcome to derry came out and it was less polished than your current tracks so I didn't finish it because I'm shallow and don't really care about the movie itself... very excited to watch this

Juan Ortiz

I said this before regarding the IT movies but these movies work well as fun adventure-type horror movies rather than a A24 Flims type of movie which speaking of, the original version of IT 2017 was gonna be even more crazy, fucked up and un-hollywood as fuck before New Line restarted production.

Kate Tilghman

Titanic is my favorite movie and yes, I do sometimes only watch the first half and enjoy a beautiful romance!

punyparker

thanks for doing these again! i love seeing the same things stick out to you upon rewatches and the new stuff you notice. as a serial rewatcher myself, that’s the best part. i’m glad i finally got around to this one! can’t wait to watch chapter 2 tomorrow!

Chris

“His tits look like trumps eyes” 😂 great track

Drew Newlin

Since you enjoy the town history, I would definitely recommend reading the book. It goes much more in depth on the tragic events that lead up to the story. However, I do think both adaptations are better that the book because they cut out a lot of the fat. For scale, the audiobook is 45hrs long. And I personally believe that Stephen King is better at world-building than actual writing.

renjunnct

man, I've rewatched this movie and the second movie with your original commentary tracks so many times over the years so I'm so psyched that you decided to revisit these movies!! The It franchise holds a special place in my heart and I can't wait to watch your Welcome to Derry and miniseries commentary tracks!
