We're back in black (Mike)!

Now that Kevin & I are caught up on Andy Muschietti's IT movies, it's time to find out what the hell his little IT Welcome to Derry series is all about! What year does it take place? Is it full of more goofy CG monsters?? Is Pennywise even in this sh-

“We thought Finn Wolfhard was annoying” well, well…now you know he was the inspiration for Richie/finn Wolfhard 🤣 and there is a second season that goes back in time! Andy wants to cover all of the book!

Izana Geisler

Also the blood version yous peak of is actually Native American and with the season dealing with them as well — it’s like a history retelling because the pilgrims and assimilation into culture

its really funny rewatching this after seeing chapter two, because the ending is suuper similar to that saccharine bullshit i didnt like at the end of chapter 2. knowing that thats just like, muschiettis thing, kinda sours it a little for me. still fun. SO LONG, LOSERS

joe shmoe

on todays episode of "all black men look alike to eric striffler..." lmao

Izana Geisler

Also Leroy is Mike’s grandpa, Will is Mike’s dad. Will is the one who burns up. Leroy lives on to protect Mike (he’s in the first film and dies of cancer before second film). Makes the second film more beautiful…because Mike got out…as opposed to his previous family

I would sooo watch a Dick Halloran Haunted London Hotel series

perserverantSoul

I was so confused by the mention of his death as his birth, but I’m just now realizing; is this why he becomes a baby at the end of chapter 2??

Izana Geisler

And obviously, Pennywise never wins. It all leads to the movies!!

In my opinion, for that this show tries to be, it's genuinely perfect. It's suuuch a fun ride. The over the top nods to both The Shining and the two new It-movies is just incredible. Like you said, it's not trying to be prestige television, and for a show centered on It, it definitely works in the shows favor. "How much trouble can a hotel be?" *MUAH*

Izana Geisler

That old lady is the same actress!!

Laura

"this show fucking ripped" - eric striffler, 2026 😁 also the bit about pennywise terrorizing jesus at the end made me lose it, INCREDIBLE tracks!!!

Aiden Cole

From what I understand it isn't guaranteed pennywise will lose because he's going back in time. So he could have killed one of the kids and it wouldn't fuck with the movies.

lexi

this last episode was fantastic! there was a lot of great stuff throughout the show but i still felt kind of meh about it overall but this last ep sold me on the whole thing!

Tyler Asato

I love the idea of Pennywise experiencing time differently. We can keep going back until we finally see that Easter day thing.

Eric if you haven't already seen it, check out the movie Doctor Sleep. It's a sequel to The Shining (based on a book Stephen King wrote) and is amazingly realy really good, with a small role by halloran

Kia Cerato

I was bummed (pun intended) that Heated Rivalry won the poll, so glad we got both anyway. Anything you post will be gold please keep it up. Your reactions to this show were priceless❤️

maseken

Pennywise being an all knowing diety that is aware of his own death so he tries to go back in time to kill the ancestors of the kids that do him in is a crazy turn. Might be super obscure but this is exactly like Sephiroth from the FF7 remake games lmao iykyk. I think it's a fun premise to keep going back in time each season but Pennywise is still aware of future events, it's like a prequel and a psuedo sequel at the same time, interesting how they will tackle it

Also i’m happy you were flabbergasted with the girl mumbling shit in the beginning in the gym. The first time I watched this I was laughing my ass off

Steevn Sonder

Imagine a limited series with Chris Chalk again as Hallorann following his first year at the Overlook + it's done by Mike Flanagan 👀

Steevn Sonder

First few episodes were really fun but these last two stuck the landing so phenomenally. Jaw on the floor.

I think the reason Stephen King hates the movie adaption is because in the book he wrote Jack based off himself and almost as an apology for his addiction, while the movie made Jack a less sympathetic character and took away focus from the addiction part. (Also I was so fucking excited to see your reaction to Halloran's last line). I keep adding shit to this but another fun fact is I went to school with Lily's actor before I transferred, I didn't talk to her much but she was always really nice.

Kronoes

What a finale! The show got so much better towards the end, loved watching with you guys!

Hunter

This was one of my favorite if not my favorite show from last year, glad to see you guys enjoyed it so much! Amazing reaction as always and GOOOO TIGERSSS (I felt like it needed to be said idk)

Steevn Sonder

As you often say Eric, it's not always about the line as much as the line delivery. The way you said "KEVIN!...YOU NAILED IT!" will live in my head forever.

Steevn Sonder

Stephen King has said he appreciates Kubrick's Shining a lot more since seeing big white Mike Flanagan's Doctor Sleep adaptation. Thinking about him loving and geeking out over this innovation of Derry makes me smile :)

Juan Ortiz

Ngl, I'm SO happy that I waited until you and Kevin did commentary tracks for Welcome to Derry because this was such of a blast watching it for the first time, Eric! Honestly, I enjoyed this more than the movies (Sill liked Chapter 1, Chapter 2 was ok but this show was better than that). As for season 2, I do believe both Andy and Barbara Muschietti kinda confirmed that a season 2 is happening. Also, I can't believe you didn't make a Dead Silence reference when Pennywise was controlling the principal like a puppet in the beginning, Eric. LOL

Steevn Sonder

“I know I could do it,” Pennywise said as he took another arm of child into the sewer hole. “I know that in time, the concept of time would be a mystery…even to me.” *crunch

Watching this show with you made me want to reread the book. I read it at 13 and I have no idea how I got through it, because it is loooong, and way too many mature themes for a literal child, and I’m only halfway through. But! I paused my current reading session to confirm that in the chapter when old Beverly visits her childhood home, we get a confirmation that the Derry High School team is in fact… The Tigers! GOOOOO TIGERS!!

Piper Lilley

I always wanted more information from the scene with the old lady in It Chapter Two! And they gave it to us! In the movie she says "My father was in the circus" and that's about all the info we get and they give us so much more info in the show which was fascinating!
