Pop stars together strong.

Alright, enough monkeying around! After trying to get all of the Showmen together in the same room to record this for over a year, we're finally watching Better Man!!!

Who is Robbie Williams? Exactly. This musical biopic from the director of The Greatest Showman tells the life story of the most famous singer in the world that nobody in the United States has even heard of AND they made him a monkey. Why?? EXACTLY!!!

Banger visuals, banger songs, banger of a time with the Showmen.

PS. Apologies for some distorted audio, happens once in a while when recording unfortunately. If you sing loud enough along with us then you won't hear it! 🙉

Guests: Miles, Showmen

I do definitely recommend watching clips from his show at Knebworth in your own time, lots of it is on youtube. I remember being 11 years old and it was on one of the main channels on Christmas day a few months later. My whole family watched it together. It was such a huge deal and it's still great to watch even though it's not my normal music taste.

miles being glued to the screen is something i could only dream of for the track of this movie!! loved it sooooo much! BETTER MAN NATION RISE!

YESSS BEST BEST BEST MOVIE

ani

The showmen have returned with a banger as the showmonkeys

ani

also a really interesting thing about Robbie being portrayed as a monkey is that it works at both showing that he’s unevolved like you and the movie pointed out and also that he saw himself as a sort of dancing monkey (entertainer) 🐒

I was ARGUING online about this movie with Americans! We need Better Man to be studied in schools all over the world!

Laura

the showmen breaking out into monkey noises whenever you all got hyped was a REAL highlight

William Laird

The Showmen never disappoint! I wasn't aware of the extent to which this flopped. I remember growing up, Robbie Williams was EVERYWHERE (outside the US, Of course). The marketing department must have had an all-time stink-up here for that reception worldwide.

Joe T

Movie of the century - not enough said about how good the casting for Gary Barlow is... literally identical

Chris

First time watching this last night, it was so good I’m already rewatching it again with the showmen!

Sarah

If you are interested in learning more about Robbie Williams he has a great documentary on Netflix. Also he is only 52 lol take that was big in the 90s and he joined as a teenager.

Anthony

I turned to the person next to me in my screening of Obsession today and asked, “ARE YOU ENJOYING THE FILM?” Got a pause and then a pretty good laugh from the row, and I think we all needed that after a certain scene behind the wheel. 😬

Austin Arminio

So my whole theory on why Robbie Williams didn't take off in the US comes down to timeline: Take That was together with Robbie from 1990-1995. The Backstreet Boys got started 1993 and NSYNC in 1995. Take That was a little too early for the US music scene, like they talk about briefly in the movie, when they were getting big in the UK, Nirvana, grunge, and alt rock were more popular here

Tori Snelling

I work at a movie theater and when this was out I walked into *that* sequence and definitely had that thought of “what in the hell is going on, this movie is about a pop star?” Never ended up liking greatest showman but better man was damn good!

Charlie

The Showmen twerking as the money's nan gets lowered into her grave had me dead

Gillian

Yes! I’ve been waiting for this since April Fools, how dare you deprive us of this outstanding, severely underrated track! I will say, however, the absence of the haunted baby doll did make me a little sad. 😢

Krista

When andrew said “it shows up in my memories all the time” I didn’t realize he meant like camera memories and thought it was a poetic way of saying he thinks about it a lot

Steff

wtf that was so unexpectedly good ahahaha twerkalong classic for sureeee. also!! there's a part where 'something stupid' plays in the background which he did a cover of way back when featuring nicole kidman (!!) so i thought that was a fun lil nod

Erik Hoepfner

I know he has a song called Me and My Monkey. Not sure if it’s why he is haha. This was one of my favorite tracks! Had me dancin

Alyssa

So crazy to see American not know Robbie Williams at all, I was so against this movie but was so proven wrong , it’s truly a masterpiece and the best biopic out there.

Abby Mason

I had never heard of this and now I'm crying. I'm not a Greatest Showman fan, but this floored me--it's such a surreal retelling of his life. I don't know Robbie Williams' music well or anything about him, and you can tell that he's just wanting to tell the story, well, his way. More people should've seen this. I wish I'd seen this in theaters!

Lavender Kloock

I remember watching interviews when this came out and apperantly the majority of this isn’t Robbie Williams singing. They ended up wanting a “younger sounding” version of his voice so they mixed in/used an impersonator. That’s why Adam Tucker is credited front and center on every one of these songs. It’s crazy how alike they sound tho it’s almost impossible to tell

Listen to "Me and Monkey" by Robbie Williams right now, i go bananas for it
