It feels so obvious that this movie really wanted to be Brandy's Cinderella for a new generation, but lacked the charm, care, and sense of humor and authenticity. Brandy's Cinderella still holds up so well and feels legitimately timeless! Camila's Cinderella feels like it won't even be memorable a year and a half from now.

okay this is kind of long but what makes me the most mad about this adaption is that I feel like the writers knew what they wanted it to be but the studio/actors didn't. In the UK there's a thing called "panto" and its literally this - a play that takes place around Christmas time (usually a fairytale) with celebrities playing the parts and pop music used to tell the story. it's very campy and kinda bad but in a fun way. it feels like they set out to make a live action version of pa to but when amazon got a hold of it they were like "dope, this generations brandy cinderella, aaaand also we're gonna cast pierce brosnan and have him play it completely straight and have one overly sincere original song but then also suddenly the evil step mother is going to sing material girl". it really was the greatest showmanification of panto.
