13 Reasons Why: The Musical

As the classic saying goes "you're never too old to learn, but you are too old to play a high school kid." Ben Platt's haunting presence is only one of many issues we have with this movie... this story... just this whole fucking thing.

Hey, at least the songs are catchy!

The Showmen are back and would like to apologize in advance for making you watch Dear Evan Hansen. Well actually, not all of us are apologizing. You see... one of us liked it, one of us did not, one has only heard the music, and one knows absolutely nothing. A Showman's Dozen, if you will!

The way that’s Ben Platt’s actual hair 😭

cameron

Just finished this after never hearing of the movie or play before it was talked about on the internet. Watched it solely through youtuber’s commentary. You were right about this being the best way to watch it. Thank you and friends for a great experience!

DeAndre

Miles explaining dirty John is killin me lmfao

Lindsay Bierman

I'm glad that the Showmen--particularly Miles--would die laughing from me shouting at Nichelle Nichols (original Uhura in Star Trek) at Megacon that "I loved you in Snow Dogs!"

Bendoe

Dear Showmen, thank you. <3

Trent Fredrickson

Can't decide whether this made my night or ruined it.

Lauren S

First Cinderella, and now this 😔

pmreez

You gave us this, so we NEED that Tick Tick Boom track LOL

Katie Holmes

first of all this track was great and i would not have watched this movie any other way second of all.......the hair is NOT a wig that is actually how he wanted the hair to be

holland rainwater

I'm really good friends with a girl who played one of the more prominent side characters in the movie and I had to straight up lie and tell her I loved it and just prayed that she didn't check my letterboxd.

prettymuchit

no plans for a tick tick boom track at the moment, we're all booked up into 2022. already watched it twice tho, love it!

Mattt

What is this new video player? A lot harder to go back and laugh at a joke, anytime i click the timeline it resets to full volume and the arrow keys seek one minute and thirty three seconds each time?? what a random awful system lol its not your fault you're probably fighting piracy but holy cow

pmreez

good to know! can't wait for all the upcoming tracks <3

prettymuchit

Beta testing for Patreon actually and taking comments like yours directly to em, so thank you for the feedback!

ShadowMonkey105

I didn't expect it to be that bad, literally a musical version of Sierra Burgess

Dominic Johnson

My absolute favorite part of these tracks are when Eric and Miles are absolutely losing their minds over the dumbest bits that they come up with as Nick and Andrew just sit there and watch their hysteria in silence

gabby k

andrew's blind predictions were just golden

Kat Burger

I don't think this video player will let me cast to my tv 😫 still have my laptop, but darn

Laura

soap2day.to has it!

Ellis Prince

'i used to think my life was a tragedy, turns out, its a fucking musical'

Ellis Golden

I have no idea why, but Amy Adams has always really annoyed me. This is the only movie she hasn't. In fact, I think her performance is the most redeeming part of the movie. Unironically, I would be okay with her getting an Oscar nom/win for this.

Quentin

I was a fan of the play, but god I did not enjoy the movie. I wont spoil too much re: changes since you mentioned maybe going to see the show live, but the musical does (at least somewhat) approach the topic of evans choices being fucked up throughout, specifically with jared (the family friend character) and through “ghost” connor, it really does change the entire vibe of it. the actors (mostly) did good, but it definitely didn’t match up to the show honestly

Meg Maddox

I just spent $20 to rent this movie after reading “13RW The Musical.”

This was a great track! Love the Showmen. Would highly recommend anyone who wants a greater deep dive into the issues of the show and the movie to watch Jenny Nicholson's video essay on it. Also, to put my two cents in, I saw the show on Broadway and I gotta say - it was DEFINITELY not framed as a dark comedy, and it was all taken very seriously by all the Broadway theater moms lol. My mom found the whole thing "uplifting" and "moving" and me, an actual teen with depression, felt even more isolated after seeing it. (And all the grating 'no homo' jokes certainly didn't help either...) I appreciate you guys crusading to defend popular musicals from unfair criticism, but I really do think DEH fails on a fundamental level to examine its own premise and say ANYTHING about mental illness. Honestly if the show was not about suicide and Connor was just in a coma for awhile (and then woke up after everything went down) MAYBE the plot could have worked. But as of now it's just kind of an offensive creepy story that capitalizes on the topic of mental illness, makes fun of 'cancel culture'/Twitter activists for actually trying to help mentally ill kids, and then is just like "trees are pretty!" as the final takeaway lol. A great track all around tho, and I really hope that Dylan Minette's band does a post-ironic lo-fi indie rock cover of "Sincerely, Me" (aka the Dance Dance Revolution song)

Question… is Hamilton on Broadway WITHOUT Lin Manuel Miranda WORTH IT? Because I’m going tomorrow night and if I spent as much as I did and it doesn’t live up to the hype of your commentary track, I’m running across the street and converting to Scientology.

Conner

I spent 13 dollars on a used bluray to get the digital version so I can sell the physical copy to make some money for my inconvenience of watching this movie. Overall? Worth it

Chowder Report

"The problem is Ben Platt looks like Frankenstein." Absolute stitches.

Buffy

I actually don't think the stage show is that bad. The actor playing Evan in the bootleg I watched (i think it might have been a production on the west end, not broadway, it was quite a fair few years ago so my memory is a little hazy) was a lot younger than Ben (even when he was on broadway!) and my god, is it easier to understand and sympathize with the character when he doesn't look like 40 year old man.
