Game Recommendation: Pale Carnations! (Patreon)

Hey everyone!

I want to share with you guys one of my favorite games in this genre, Pale Carnations!

Made by the duo TD and Gil, PC is thematically as far from OoT as you can possibly get without making a snuff film.

Yet the reason I adore this project is because of the mature, believable writing and fantastic art that pushes the very boundaries of what Honey Select 1 can accomplish.

TD is a genuinely talented writer who deserves far more recognition than he’s gotten and his ability to create realistically flawed yet interesting characters is more akin to what you’d find in serious novels rather than a western VN.

Gil needs almost no introduction, he’s a long-time veteran of the HS1 community and knows the ins and outs of that engine so well that the art in PC easily overshadows the renders of most HS2 games, let alone games using HS1.

These two guys are great, and I would really appreciate it if you could give them and their game a try!

But don’t just take my word for it, PC is consistently in the top 3 highest rated games on F95 for a very good reason.

Pale Carnations is an interactive adult visual novel currently in development, created by Team Mutt and Jeff.

In Pale Carnations, step into the shoes of a tightly wound pre-med student pulled head first into a world of debauchery thanks to the influence of a waning childhood friend. As the newest employee at the Carnation Club, navigate your part in a series of cruel erotic games and sexual encounters. 

Will you give into your sadistic urges and be enticed by the club's wealth and hedonism? Or perhaps at the end of it all, a flower of romance will bud, pushing you to leave the brothel’s sordid business behind.

Features a variety of intersecting storylines that sees you guide the performance of three women desperately competing for the brothel’s grand prize, uncover backroom dealings steeped in intrigue, and maneuver the day-to-day social life of a man ill at ease with his basest impulses.

Nice! Playing it right now, only about an hour in but digging it so far.

Man, it's hilariously weird seeing both games in each other's styles! They both look amazing and yet I don't think I could play either if they were developed by the opposite folks.

It's a really well thought out game with a high degree of replay-ability. Your choices have real consequences that can drastically effect the direction your character and his relationships wind up taking through the game. You even have a direct effect on which of the Carnations will ultimately win the competition. I've been playing PC for about 6 months now and I'm still enjoying different playthroughs and their varying results.i will say, though, that I kind of wish I'd kept a playthrough journal so I could remember all the specific choices I'd made for each run.

The "choices have consequences" thing is actually a minus for me, since it slows development and requires multiple playthroughs to see all the content. But I get why a lot of people like it, especially if you think of it as more of a game than as a literal visual novel.

Came here from the cross-promo on the Pale Carnations page. I'm only up to chapter 6 or so but I'm having a really good time with Out of Touch. Definitely glad you guys did these posts!
