Sienna Hayes emailed me and asked if I was interested to shoot at a very weird time. I live in Denmark, but had just landed in Las Vegas about to start my first Venus On Mars trip with Roarie Yum, and had just learned hours before than the other model who was supposed to come couldn't make it. And we were leaving the day after.
I was jet-lagged, stressed out but also knew myself well enough that if I didn't decide right away it would fade away as I would be literally going into the wild Wild West the next 10 days.
I quickly agreed and we met a couple of month later In Copenhagen.
We had planned to shoot an afternoon and consecutive morning but weather did not behave. So I asked if we could reschedule the second shot to a day later, and go to Sweden instead. Sienna said she didn't have other plans while in Denmark, she was basically here to shot with me which I found very flattering.
So we did two half day shoots. One at a limestone cliff a couple of hours south of Copenhagen, and one at Kullaberg Natural Preserve in Sweden, also a coupe of hours away.
For the limestone we found a B&B and arrived in the evening and slept over so we could be onsite by daybreak.
Sometimes when you are on the coast in the morning there will bee fog, which is really sea-mist. Normally this will disperse quickly, and while it is cold AF, the transition period gives an amazing light so we went down the slippery cliffs anyway.
We shot some wonderful images there and on the way back, probably at 7 am we passed a decommissioned church (last two images before the sail boat). It was empty but we were hungry so went back to the B&B and had a shower, breakfast packed up and went back to the church.
Still empty so we shot the image with the shadow and decided to take a punt at the pulpit. Sienna crawled up there (I had her clothes), we made a few shots and then heard voices.
She ducked down underneath the pulpit as 8-10 tourists loitered into the room, wandering about taking pictures. I pretended to shoot a couple of swallows.
Some minutes later they started to leave, but at the same time a full bus with tourists unloaded about 40 people outside who populated the place.
Sienna was still hiding beneath the pulpit and texted me "Fuck, so many people, haha" and a not so amused smiley.
This time they stayed for about 15 minutes and as soon as they started to leave I threw Siennas clothes up, she put most of It on and started down the pulpit as the next bus unloaded. Talk about close call 😜
Two days later we were walking around Kullaberg on a Sunny Friday afternoon. Way more people than normally there, but I found a small cove and we shot pic 2-6 (counting from the sailboat). The people on the sailboat, 3 younger guys noticed us, but they were cool about it. They waved, we waved and they brought a couple of beers up on deck and enjoyed the view. Sienna didn't mind.
We finished up and walked on, and then it became weird:
The boat guys lifted their anchor and followed us around anchored up and started watching again.
Not cool.
And it's a weird feeling when 3 unknown men are following the movements of a women, let alone a naked one. We moved again, found a new spot and lo and hold 10 min later they found us and anchored up again.
That was the straw.
Sienna was not feeling safe so we packed it op and left 30min before the best sunset light because of the 3 dudes in the boat.
Anyway the next day I called them out on Facebook along with the sailboat image and interestingly enough one of the guys on the boat saw my post and wrote back. He claim they weren't following us and it was purely accidental. But I explained how it looked from the perspective of a woman and he actually understood. I think.
Guys, never follow a woman, and if you happen to be going the same way make sure it does not appear you are following her around. Give her space. Women have a sixth sense and nerves can easily be frayed regardless of how you interpret the situation.
Anyway, these two half days yielded a lot of really good images. And that's the thing about working with professional models.
The hit-rate of what you shoot is so much higher than when working with amateurs.
Here are 4 movies from the shot, exposure sucks on some of them, its an iPhone and dark rocks 🙈:
