This set is from my first shoot with the gorgeous Michella Elley.

I didn't know what to expect or knew what to do, but the sun was shining, so I decided to go for stripes. And that turned out to be the right choice.

In case you wonder, the stripes are created by hanging up a string curtain and having the sun shine through and cast shadows on the model's body.

Make sure the curtain is as close to the model's body as possible for harder shadows.

It is possible to do with a flash but the more pointed the light, the better.

That is, the most optimal lamp is a spot with a lens, and alternatively, a lamp with a honeycomb or a snoot.

Or the smallest possible lamp head you have access to.

The sun beats them all hands down, though.

Check out the BTS video posts from this shoot.

The last three images are ambient light too, the first and second from a window, the third I have just blocked off the light on either side of the model creating a light tunnel from the front.

Thanks Thomas, for pointing out your stripes techique! I just experimented in studio with flash-for-stripes, and it works reasonably well, but not as good as with sunlight, I suppose. Having a fine grid is essential, and sufficient distance :) Will credit you when posting (PP).Marvellous images, btw! Cheers, Rob
