When I was doing this, I was severely annoyed at Instagram, so I set out to do something provocative, yet within their (stupid) guidelines. I was thinking along the lines of lighting a fuse from Aja's bum, and using the blower to sort of extend the motion forward.

Ironically Aja has since had her account deleted because of the guidelines (not over this image though).

I sketched down the idea and thought about which models I knew would be up for it, and Aja Jane immediately came to mind. 

I told her I had no idea how to fix the sparkler, but she just said it was a fun idea and we could use a cork if I couldn't find a better solution. In the end, I used a hanger from dry-cleaners. I shaped it into a sort of monokini that I could twist the end of a sparkler around.

The light used is my Zeppeliner (157 cm deep umbrella with the mounted diffuser for a softer touch - and you can see most of the foam core boards on the video that restricts the light to Aja.

After shooting Aja, I left the camera on the tripod, set the camera to B (bulb, which means it's open until you press the shutter again). Then I did a remote release and started writing parts of the words with the sparkler. 

Then I mirrored the word parts (so you could read them correctly from the camera side), pieced the fragments together in Photoshop. Lastly, I added the few sparks that bump off Aja to make it look more real.

Again I was attacked by a load of internet people who thought it deplorable that I "put a sparkler up the models ass" 🤷‍♂️

I don't care too much about these shitstorms anymore. As long as the model doesn't mind, I just don't care what people take offence to.
