I was traveling with Ylva Maia this summer and she asked me a question:
How do you keep making new unique images?
For me the "secret" is to explore.
- Explore interesting light when available
- Explore ideas as I get them even if they seem weird
- Explore each models individuality: Try to find what each woman I photograph has that is unique and focus on that.
As an example of the last Valentina has some very unique hair. She is also a very good poser but the hair is so unique I just had to explore what can be done with it.
Here are a few examples, more in different settings will follow.
So when shooting someone try to find out what's unique about each model. Some dance, some climb, some do yoga, some can do weird faces or kung-fu. Allow yourself to play with it and break out of the stereotypes.
It's not always about beauty, sometimes creating abstracts is equally interesting.
