Mary is/was a Milan fashion model obsessed with living up to the fashion industry goals. I had arranged to shoot her around sunset on a massive dune in northern Denmark, meeting 3h before. She wanted to look great on the images, so she hadn't eaten much (if anything) the previous three days.

She arrived about 80 min. late (said it was due to car trouble) and then the make-up artist spent 40min doing makeup. Then walking up the dune, she almost fainted due to fatigue.

I semi-forced some dark chocolate and almonds into her (threatening to cancel the shot if she didn't eat something), and she got a little better after 20 min. or so.

Unfortunately, the sunset waits for no one, so we missed it and were destined to use flash.

I had a Youngono Handflash as a backup (I had no plan of using light on the dune but realised I might have to minutes before). This constantly overheated and needed a break for 5 min each time I had shot 10-12 frames.

Then a slight drizzle set in, and I had to encapsulate the flash in a plastic bag which didn't exactly help. After 30 min we gave up and went back tot he car.

I think I shot 100 frames all in all and got these two images.

It wasn't all wasted, but all in all, I spend 7 hours doing this shoot, and nothing really came off it because the model was starving and couldn't keep the agreed time.

We never shot again.

PS: the third image is an iPhone shot using a cmos sensor - and the readout of the censor apparently had completed halfway when the flash fired.

Obviously extremely frustrating. Nevertheless the two monochrome images, finished in your beautiful style, are gorgeous.
