If you have ever seen any of my presentations on Lighting, you know I favor light with a direction and at certain angles.

When shooting outdoor, the light source is unmovable, and if shooting midday, it's frequently too high of an angle to produce beautiful light.

So I find a place with tall structures (like rocks here, tall trees, buildings with darker walls, etc.) and place the model next to this. This naturally eliminates light from one side.

Or if you can find a canyon with a rock-face on two sides or two buildings close together, Lighting will be even more directional like the images here.

And that is the "secret" to creating beautiful soft and still directional light.

PS. I had to clone a bit more bush onto Dottir to comply with Patreon.
