One essential thing when photographing models is building rapport and making them feel comfortable. I have a couple of key things I always do:

Make sure they have access to food if hungry and water. Take time to find out who they are and what they like. I’m interested in people, so this comes easy for me.

But it also has the benefit that when you get well acquainted, you also have a better idea of where a model's boundaries are, making joking and having a laugh much easier.

The first is a proper image, and on the second image, you can tell that I’m saying something highly inappropriate, but something that completely disarmed the model. When you can get to a level of intimacy where both can laugh out loud, it will be much easier to create great images.
