When you work in black and white, do you start with color and then turn it grayscale? Or do you start in grayscale and adjust brightness/contrast once you reach color stage?

when I work with black and white in a drawing, then I try to represent and expand all the details of the drawing by tone. I'm trying to imagine what tone this or other detail of the character or background would be in relation to each other. how contrasting or light. for me it is difficult if the character has many patterns on the fur, and I make one tone, and then finish in color to the desired color of the coat. for the rest, for the black-and-white base, I try to make a clear coloring by tone, so that the silhouettes of objects are clear even if I turn off the line ^^ https://i.gyazo.com/e6d4b1d34cdc0411317c3b1c8a1a35a1.png
