Curious if this is implying the effect steals motivation or willpower from others. If Christina is unknowingly stealing or swapping with her coworkers and roommates that could be a reason she slimmed down here, but around fatter women the effect doesn't work the same

Interesting theory. That also leaves some interesting options for how the other girls in the present might look now. Regardless, I think it's about time someone explains how those magic words (hers and those of Liz) actually work on the person who is effected by them. I don't know if we are actually supposed to know but I'd like to.

If I remember from the Liz flashback, her words only work on those who already have a gluttonous nature to them, hence why Christina was affected. However, it has no effect on those who have zero gluttonous drive, like Caitlyn when Liz’s words didn’t affect her at all.

I can't spoil too much, but this flashback will at least set the rules of how her words work, the same as Liz's set the rules for her's. The bigger question of why the words have power at all however... That one may still be harder to understand.
