Hey there,

For those of you who have dual extrusion printers.  Are you able to use Prusa slicer for model coloring for non-Prusa machines, without the need for multiple stl's?

Comments

R&D 3D Printing

I was for the brief time I attempted to use that slicer.

ThatsCooliNeedit

As long as the profile for the printer is in Prusa slicer yes. A Bambu version would be 🤌🏼

Fun and Geekery

I have a Sovol SV02 and I use Prusa Slicer for two colors.

ScandiHåndverk

Yes. I do it all the time with JGMaker Artist-D and Sovol SV04. It can be tricky to setup and helps to start with someone else's profile, but once you have it set, it's good. Then just paint with the brush per extruder or break objects into parts or objects and set extruder per piece.

ahmed j orra

I had a sovol sv04 that i was able to paint any one stl. I had a profile made for it. So yes it is possible if you can make a profile for it

Nic Wilson

I am using a Bambu Lab X1c with Bambu Studio

Abraham Sawyer

Yes. My wife uses it for our IDEX Tenlog

Dylan and Julia Bowen

I have a neptune 2d. I can use prusa slicer but cura works way better for this printer

Jmtkreations

Yea as long as they have a profile for multi extruders my snapmaker with dual extrusion needs multiple stls due to it being a single extruder just with dual extruder module so it doesn't work properly in prusa

Paul Rice

I have two dual color printers (LOTMAXX Shark V2 & a V3). I have not been able to effectively use Prusaslicer for them with dual color. I am hoping Lotmaxx will create a profile for Prusaslicer. So I currently am forced to use Cura for my dual color prints. I do not like using Cura. lol I've got a X1c on order, so that'll be my third multi color printer. I may also get an IDEX like the Sovol SV04, so there is no waste dual color. The Prusaslicer multi color tool is pretty powerful when I have used it. Most times I have to use blender or such to create dual color via 2 STLs. I've not figured out how to keep them aligned though, so sometimes it's a pain in the arse to get the files to line up. I did this with Herbert the heart, fortunately I got it to line up. I did have color bleed cause my skin was too thin on the second color.

cobyn

Yes I have a sovol sv04 that I do this with

ScandiHåndverk

SV04 is a great printer. Definitely recommend

Emre Bayraktaroglu

As many said, yes. It's very simple. Hit me up on discord if you need help

Emre Bayraktaroglu

CrazyTurk hehe would be helpful if you knew who I am hahah

Olivier Sassine

Came here to say yes but I guess everyone else said yes also

cobyn

To enable Paint on color in prusaslicer you need to update the printer profile have multiple extrudes

Jason Godines

I also have a sovol s02 and would appreciate any help setting mine up to print in two colors

Andrew S Zaunmiller

I use Ideamaker and have to use aligned STL's. Multicolor is set up by selecting which extruder I want to print with.

Phil Rolfe

I have a 9 spool changer on my Voron and use PS (and supper slicer) to do that. You probably don’t remember, but way back at the beginning of Patreon I posted a multi color print of the sloth done that way.

Ted Chichester

I use Prussslicer on my SV04 and use the paint function. It works really nice. Now that said I have used a few dual extrusion prints and it is really works great.

Ben Fry

What you want to do is find a very similar printer, 1) clone 2) change the print dimensions 3) change the start /end GCode where it gets hard is the speed, nozzle and layer height profiles. Pretty unlikely Prusa will release a Bambu Labs profile given the current heat and banter online (I have a MK3S and Mini)

Cr Th

Yes on my sv04!

SSZ Canada

I use Prusa Slicer to paint for my Geeetech A20T

Maraya

I have a Geeetech A10M and have struggles with pre-coloured 3MF files. It throws errors. I wonder if I can try Bambu Studio.

Patrick Hurtado

Yeah I use Prusa Slicer for my Craftbot Flow Idex’s.

Chris Beaver

I have a lotmaxx shark V2 and I am racking my brain on how to get the dual color to work on prusa

Michael Bailey

help i see you said you have a lot max i do as well but have not been able to make duel colors yet because i don’t understand how to do it i also was using cura so do you use two copies of a stl file and say join and if so how do you tell it we’re to change the color any hep please would be something the you tube that comes up shows two globs but don’t tell you how to put the color on top of one and not the other i’m so .

usr2284a

I have an NDA for my exact printer, however yes, prusaslicer coloring works great on my non prusa printer.

TheDarthGrader

Yes. I use prusa paint on the sv04 for dual color printing.

Sabrina

You can brush paint for the sv04 on there? Why was I using the Sovol cura?? 😭 Lol

Vincent Labonté

Yes. I can use Prusa slicer for the Snapmaker J1 (custom profiles)

Allen Smith

I should be able to, but haven't tried yet.

ScandiHåndverk

Ha no clue! I never have, and never intend to, use Cura for any of my printers. There is always a way to figure out a prusaslicer profile or find someone who has done it before 💪🏻

Sparkss

Voron + ERCF + PrusaSlicer. no problems. Not dual extrusion (9 filaments/colors), but it works w/ PS. I use it more often than my MK3S + MMU2S.

Travis Loker

Sovol SV04 and SV02 work fine with material painting.

Adam J Rux

I don't know, I don't use prusaslicer. I know, I live in the dark ages🤣🤣🤣 in my defense, I learned on cura and find it works just fine for what I need. I do have prusaslicer, but am really unfamiliar with it. I will research cura and see if there is a way to cut or separate stls

Jerry Calverley

I have an ultimaker 3 but haven't tried to use Prusa Slicer painting tool. It may be useful. I have use Cura and have ti make 2 models which merge together in the slicer.

Lonnie Hill

All I know is Cura but I guess I could learn Prusa slicer I just got a Geeetech A30T so I need to learn it

Austin

Yeah, you are. I have a Sovol SV04 set up as a custom printer and you can paint models to switch between the two different colours. :)

Bland Things

You can set up dual extrusion in Cura

Bland Things

How do you like your Sovol? Thinking about pickling up one

Jeff Herrmann

I have been able to use both with the Bambu slicer. But the .3MF files are just gold. I would pay extra for just those. The painting in Bambu studio is absolutely horrific

Garrett Smith

I have the Palette 3 Pro and using the Canvas Studio is definitely easier with multiple STLs, but doable without.

PROTONORD

Raise3d is locked to Ideamaker and in that slicer you choose what tool head to use for each part. So have to use multipart, but the slicer combine the position of all parts when imported in the slicer.

Austin

It’s actually really solid. Great IDEX on a budget, but takes a bit of tinkering and tuning to get it running well. Overall, I’d recommend it.

Usman Naeem

Yes the procedure is similar to how you paint an stl in bambu slicer.

Usman Naeem

It depends on the model, easier models can be painted in secounds while complex models take time.

Andrei Panait

would be nice to be able to use the multi-color files on printers other than Bambu... I am installing a 3-input hot end on my printer and look forward to trying it out I haven't tried the prusa/superslicer color painting thing yet, i've only done multi-file ones

Francis Pelland

I paint for both Prusa and Bambu using Prusaslicer

Adam Max

I second the SV04. I use Prusa Slicer when I want to color. I just hate the supports that Prusa has vs the Tree supports in Cura.

Dan

This is why I wanted to open this dialogue. Sound like you can paint in Prusa Slicer, and I think you can also use Bambu according to what I am reading, once a profile is set up for other printers with duel and 3 input. Trying to find a work around to splitting the file, and it seems like there are several options.

Dan

Interesting. I have had the opposite experience.

Timothy

I also have a SV04 and I use Presa slicer for my dual color prints

MisfitGeekGifts

Simple answer is yes. I used it often when printing dual colours with my Tenlog TL-D3 Pro, but now I do a lot of the colour stuff on my Bambu XC1 using their slicer

William Bond

Pre-ordered a dual extruder but what I have seen from others who have received there's, it looks like you need multiple STLs.

Usman Naeem

A single stl can be painted with a slicer to make it a multi color print

Paul Feeney

The Tenlog, Sovol SV04 and othe IDEX printers will use prusa painted models

Dusty Wagner

Alive got an A20M and wish there was an easier way to do dual prints

Mike Kowalski

I'm just jealous! Trying to hold for the Prusa XL.

Chris Gilroy

So I am guessing that Cura can not do this without someone creating two separate models?

Dan

Correct.

Chris Gilroy

How difficult would it be to provide your files in that format?

tayler smith

i run the flashforge creator pro 2 dule head and i cant use prusa slicer at all. super bummed i really wanted to print in 2 colors.

Cr Th

Yes i can use the prusa slicer for my Sovol SV04. It worked great for the knight!

Shannon Patterson

i have the creator pro2 and used the prusa dual for my print by running it through ths flashprint 5
