1:04:40 LONG OF JONO BEING TORTURED?! I'm in heaven 😍. Thank you, Emily, for this amazing gift!

The Hideaway Tavern

These people need my help but they’re not asking me for it so I can’t give it to them. I understand this pain on a core level.

Alex Torres

Y'all are and have been grown adults, but I feel like I'm looking at baby Alan and Jonathan here😭😂

The Hideaway Tavern

If a guy is warning you he’s bad news, please run. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Run.

Aeras

Jono yelling "WHY?!" over and over is probably my second favorite Cinema Therapy moment. 🤣

Aeras

Lmao! What was that paragraph that blips on the screen for the tiniest fraction of a second at 5:07? Not even long enough for me to attempt to pause on it.

Ana Bulat

Recently I have been re-listening to your Twilight Eclipse and Breaking Dawn episodes almost every night and now this video is released! Amazing, thank you. ❤️

This was fantastic- I was out of the country when this became huge in the states. I got home for the movie release and my friend convinced me to go to a movie a couple towns over so no one she knew would see her. I was so confused when I saw it why everyone was obsessed with this. My sister said she got family tickets for the next day and I actually laughed sooo much during the movie the second time and got so many dirty looks. Then my family, who read all the books, made me read them. Craziest time in my life lol

Jabs

Why did this make me want to watch the Twlight movies again? Probably because I'll laugh more now and just hear Jono's "WHY?!" in my head at all the problematic parts.

I got seriously caught up in the question of why these movies (and books) were so popular, mostly because I also loved the books (note past tense) and was very excited about the movies. So I have a working theory: These books came out before New Adult was really a category, and I think they were on the bleeding edge of the romantasy genre as well, which really is the genre that started overlapping between Young Adult and Adult, necessitating the invention of the NA category. Romantasy is EXTREMELY popular with the same kind of population (as best as I can tell) who loved the Twilight series. Now that there have been so many more romantasy series that are better written and (sometimes) have better messaging, I think we can all, in hindsight, look back and collectively agree that Twilight was not as good as we thought in comparison, but at the time I don't think we had much of anything to compare it to, so I'm theorizing that the halo effect on the books carried over to the movies. I remember finding the books to be so novel and different than any other YA books I'd read up to that point, therefore, I was extremely excited to see them on the big screen. Similar to how much I loved LOTR and was excited for those movies, when you love the source material, you want to see it on the screen. I remember not loving the first movie as much as I'd wanted to going in, but they really shifted the feel from #1 to #2 so that helped them stay popular, in my opinion.

You guys shredding the Twilight series is what got me to subscribe to your channel. Love the extended diatribes!

Olga Makarova

The CT Twilight episodes has already been my comfort episodes, and this is the perfect opportunity to revisit it, thank you team! 😄

Andrew Salgado

the pauses in twilight feel like an early 2000's learning English for Spanish speakers VHS tapes

I absolutely love watching y'all watch these. I rewatch your videos on these movies, so a director's cut was an awesome surprise!

Missa Carlson

This movie and its series is so Mormon it hurts. The plot of the girl chasing the pretty boy and not having any individual agency until after marriage, the SUPER awkward love scenes, the toxic dominance from the man's side... so much of it. Another creator, Alyssa Grenfell, talks about the religion and its idiosyncrasies, and why she left. I think it would be really fun to have her as a guest to talk about this movie.

DontEatMePlz

You know what? Don't get me wrong, I hate-watched Twilight, I think it's terrible. But since we can't see the thoughts in Bella's head in that awful reveal scene (I know you can in the book, that was horrible), here's my hot take: if I were in that forest with Edward, I might say the exact same things. Why? For survival. Scary dude threatening me? Don't kill me, I love you, I trust you, I'm the only one who sees who you really are underneath the scary. Because that might just buy you the time you need to get away from him.

Melissa

My husband grudgingly went to the movies with me for this. He calls Edward "Sparkly Discoball". I looooove junk food. Nummy, num-num 😋 But Ms. Costello had it right with Dr. Sayer. I know I'm the only one that wants you to do this movie, but it's the GOAT in every possible way.

ysolde

Oh, yuck. Shiny, happy vampires holding hands. Not interesting from the horror genre perspective or the film theory perspective. This movie just has so many issues. Watching this, I do want to know why Bella is so sickly, grayish pale long before she becomes a vampire? She was walking around in high school talking to her would-be vampire boyfriend and looking the same whiter shade of pale gray as he was. Was she sick? It's odd. And the fact that her parents seem more or less absent for whatever reason and she ends up with this much (much) older parental figure of a boyfriend who is at once threatening and (over) protecive, moving from barely knowing him to marriage? Not a healthy way to move from adolescence into adulthood.

My sister pointed this out that they take her to the hospital when she didn’t actually hit her head. However, we do not see Jacob take her to the hospital after she hits her head on a rock for real or when she drowns almost. This series makes zero sense. This is probably one of the worst female protagonists I have ever seen.
