Alan:

Hello Heroes!

We went on tour! It was short, and it was only the beginning, but still! Tour!

What I’m reading!

Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson - I DID IT! I beat you, Sanderson! It may have taken me four months to get through the first 800 pages, but I ripped through the last 200 in about 36 hours! Amazing how a book will hold my attention when things actually happen to the characters… I’m being too mean. Or am I? Still, excited to get into book 3. After a couple month break. I’ve got some film books and other novels to read!

Before & Afters #36 - Toy Story 30th Anniversary. I love this magazine. This issue has lots of lovely behind-the-scenes anecdotes from one of the most important films of my adolescence. It’s great. If there’s any you find interesting, there are digital and print copies available at the website: https://beforesandafters.com/magazine/ or on Amazon. Highly recommend for the big movie nerd in your life.

What I’m watching!

Hamnet - What can I say. Chloe Zhao strikes again. I’ve yet to see a movie of hers that I connected with. She kinda had me for the first 35 minutes of this one, and the last 20 minutes is soul-shredding. But I also fell asleep twice. I’m just not a fan of this type of movie, though she executes it at a very high level. Shrug emoji.

Pirates: Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End. I disliked them a lot less this time (third time watching each). There’s a lot to love about those movies. Even if the plots are (still) massively over-stuffed. Man, there’s a lot of great craft, not just in the craft departments, but even in the screenwriting and especially performances and direction. Fun movies.

What I’m playing!

Nuclear Option - This is a flight sim (pretty arcadey) that allows you to drop nukes! Fun! It’s actually really fun and kinda deep, but I don’t really have the rig for it. Still enjoying it though.

Half-Life 2 - This is my third or fourth playthrough. What a great game. Man I wish Valve still made games. They were really good at it. Though I’m glad they made me a Steam Deck. This is basically just a copy-paste of my reminiscence about Portal 2.

Watch Movies! (And television, and read books, and play video games)

Jono:

Hey all! How's February treating you?!For Valentine's I treated myself to a couple of classic romcoms: Philadelphia Story starring Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and Jimmy Stewart, as well as It Happened One Night starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert (for which the latter won Best Actress at the Oscars). Both witty, banter-filled, well-cast, delightful films, though I give the edge to It Happened One Night. Instantly one of my new favorite romcoms, even 92 years after it came out! So full of life, timeless, and sassy! My local theater has been screening classic movies. Last month I caught all the Hunger Games movies. This month I've been enjoying the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (original three). The first is obviously a masterpiece of popcorn movie-making, but the sequels grow more appealing to me with every rewatch. Still bloated and overindulgent, BUT there's so much to appreciate and enjoy there! On TV I've been catching up on the new season of Bridgerton. Kinda tired of EVERY Bridgerton male being a rake who reforms for the right woman, but otherwise still enjoying the show. So many wonderful characters.I've been reading the Back to the Future Ultimate Visual History and it absolutely delights! So delightful to dive into one of my favorite films. What about all of you? What have you been enjoying?

Oh man, Hamnet was my favorite movie of 2025, incredible stuff. A whole episode about it might not be viable viewership-wise, but I'd be very curious to hear a discussion about getting through grief as a family and the different ways in which art helps us process difficult emotions and tap into our humanity.

I've been enjoying Alan's old game lists. PS+ gave away Ace Combat 7, and that was fun for the first mission. I put that aside because the Avatar game went on deep discount, and I'm finally jumping in to another Ubisoft beast. I'm enjoying the hell out of that. Thanks, Alan! I also rewatched Scrubs before the new season starts tonight.

Alan, what you experienced is what we in the Cosmere fandom call 'The Sanderlanche.' It happens in every book. All of the plotlines come together for a climax that goes and keeps on going. The next book has one of the best Sanderlanches he's ever done. I'm curious though, who's your favorite character in Stormlight?

The tour was a blast! I'm excited for you to read more of the Stormlight Archive, Alan. The next three books are fantastic, in my opinion. Also, Jono, the Bridgerton boys all being rakes makes sense given a direct quote from Violet in season one, "Reformed rakes make the best husbands." This was a common trope and thought in period romances.

Amber Kenneson

Hope the tour was fun! It Happened One Night is one of my favorite films! And Philadelphia Story is near and dear to my heart as well (one of my mum's favorites, so I watched it a lot growing up).

I'm reading Thrawn: Treason by Timothy Zahn for the 5th time (I swear that book never gets old, lol), bingeing All Creatures Great and Small with my best friend, and playing Jedi: Fallen Order for the first time!

I haven't been actually reading much, but I got Dungeon Crawler Carl series going on audio. I'm watching Clone Wars, and while the dialogue is cringy quite frequently and the actors no better than the movies, I will say that it fills in a lot and is satisfying enought times to keep me watching.

I havent been reading much this month. Ive been Watching Shrinking season 3, Brsigerton Season 3, and rewatching some Daniel Craig James Bond films which I love even if James Bond is not a good guy. Gaming Im replaying animal crossing. I completely restarted my island and Im happy about it. Thats it so far.

Agree!!!! I love Hamnet

I finished Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (definitely recommend, though heavy on the science of science fiction sometimes). I started We Are Legion (We Are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor and I'm really enjoying it. Caution: The assumed future 2133 is entirely too plausible. I also took a course at my local library last night (shout out to libraries!) on Tarot for Beginners. I look forward to reading more into that. Were you aware Call Jung used tarot? He wasn't a reader for others, but believed tarot represented human archetypes and could be used to help meld the conscious and shadow self. Interesting stuff. I've definitely been on the Bridgerton/Shrinking/The Pitt trains with everyone else. I'm also rewatching The Good Place because I desperately needed the vibe in my life. Oh, and I finally finished Stranger Things! I stumbled on a game called Inscryption and it's pretty fun. One of these days I'm gonna get back to trying to beat the ascension levels in Slay the Spire, too. Slay the Spire 2 is coming out in a few months and I'm looking forward to giving it a go, too.

I got my 24 complete series box sets, yesterday. I need a room for just my DVDs, blu-rays and TV box sets. I rewatched the first four episodes, last night. It takes off and never stops. These episodes fly by. I asked my friends, who do they like better? Jack Bauer or John McClane? A lot of them said, Jack. I'm leaning towards that direction. I've seen Die Hard, 100 times. The spark is gone.

Almendra Báez Riquelme

I fell into the kdrama vortex and I'm fine :) I've watche "No Tail to Tell" (with a fox-maiden that we know is going to lose her tail cuase of the title. i suspect some memory wipping at some point and then it'd be more of a word play) and "Idol X" which is resonating with my newlyfound k-pop-fan persona. "Taxi Driver" was gritty and I need to finish it And I've been rewatching some aprts of "Dynamyte Kiss" because is SO good. It has all the romantic troupes for the mostly-right reasons. Like she didn't tell him something, cause it was embarrasing to do so in the first day, which tracks, but also then becomes a bit of a confussing situation to give us some drama (It's called k-drama for reason, guys, it's very honest about it)
