How do you grow out of your insecurities?

In this Patreon-exclusive episode, licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright react to Steve from Stranger Things and his journey from sh***y boyfriend to good man. They discuss the accountability that allows him to have such strong growth, and they talk about how likable Joe Keery is.

NOTE: This was meant to be a YouTube episode, which is why it's not like a typical exclusive episode. Stranger Things content performed poorly on YouTube, so we unfortunately had to pivot. We're so grateful for your support here, so enjoy this bonus exclusive episode!

Steve turned from my least favourite character in Season 1, to one of my favourites by later seasons. Joe Keery really excelled at humanising Steve.

Thank you very much for the Steddie fanfic resource episode this will be very helpful lol Seriously, though, I’m so sorry to hear ST content performed poorly on YouTube, I’ve been loving it!

Rewatching the show for season 5 really had me reevaluating my opinion of season 1 Steve. He was a high school prick. But breaking Jonathan's camera after he took pictures of his girlfriend? Like... Yeah. I get that. He does have legitimate reason to wonder if Nancy is cheating on him. But like you guys are saying, there are flashes of "oh, the roots of later season Steve are already here". It's not a total flip mid season for dramas.

YAY! This is the episode I’ve been wanting since I discovered your channel.

You guys should listen to Joe Keery’s band DJO. Dudes so talented

Alan, my guy, you missed the layup: "I don't need therapy for my hair" when "I don't need hair-apy" was right there. It's ok, I still love you anyway. Also: man do I love Steve Harrington, and Joe Keery. Ever seen that dude in interviews? He's quite possibly the most effortlessly charming human being in existence.

I don't know why we think Stranger Things doesn't do well on youtube but I am glad I am a patron to watch an episode about my favorite character Steve!

Samoeba

OMG they said my name at the end! It's the word amoeba with an S. Because my name is Sam and people keep comparing me to an amoeba when I tell them I'm ace.

Melissa

Another great lunch break provided by Cinema Therapy. Thanks guys! 😃

What a weird comparison. Happy to say your name, though! - Jono

Steve’s friendship with Robin is also very important to me

Thank you for this extra episode on Steve! Sorry the ST episodes aren’t doing well. Another note, while my sister and I were watching this…we both randomly had the same thought about you doing a Psychology of a Hero or something about sportsmanship for Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez in The Sandlot (maybe because it’s baseball season!)
