Another video about Pearl Harbor?

KrissyArtist

Honestly I liked Doctor Sleep more than the Shining. Also agree not a huge Quentin Tarantino fan. Prince of Thieves is fun I agree with Jono. I disagree with Revenge of the sith. It is the best of the prequels. This is fun I would love more

Erin McCullough

[tenses in Labyrinth] I still love you both... :p

Joshua Adam Bornfield

Definitely interested in that Wachowski sisters take, and please include the Netflix show Sense8!

SaucyJTB

Ahem... Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 have heart for DAYS. Sure Vol 1 lacks it a bit, but once you combine it with Vol 2... man. I still cry every damn time she sees B.B. 😭.

Richie or Dean idc

my incorrect take is the exorcist is one of the worst horror movies of all time. the atmosphere created with the lighting and production design is amazing but the actual plot is so boring i literally fell asleep when i tried to watch it. the only scene i found even remotely scary was the old timey brain scan. also i dont understand why the makeup is still held in such high regard. i recreated the regan look for halloween one year with liquid latex, cotton and dollar store face paint when i was thinking about going to school to be an SFX artist and it honestly looked better even though i am terrible at makeup.

Emma Ahlquist

....I think I agree with Jono about Prince of Thieves. Except Kevin Cosner. He's the least interesting character to me Edit: and then Alan proceeds to be very wrong

Toffee Dog

I feel vindicated by Jono's take on Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, as I always really enjoyed it as a movie and felt it stayed with me (emotionally and in some of the tense action sequences). But Alan is definitely wrong about The Shining lol.

Ben Sheppard

The best thing that Prince of Thieves is that it gave us Men in Tights

TibTobTom

The moment Jono and Alan both started talking about how they thought 2001 was boring and slow paced, I immediately did fist pumps and felt like Captain Holt from Brookyln 99 (RIP) going 'VINDICATIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!"

Woodwind

More of these please!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Tiana Horsey-Daydreamer

I have one to share! I think Frozen 2 is the better of the two movies. The first movie has so much hype that by the time I watched it I was like "... This is it?"

Valerie Merriam DeBill

The Shining movie also suffers a lot from the fact that we already think of Jack Nicholson as being unhinged. The book is the story of a normal person who is slowly losing it and fighting it. Going into it with a preconceived idea of Nicholson as, well, Nicholson takes away from that level of subliminal terror as we feel Torrance slipping.

Caleb Newberry

The Flash was disappointing. Barry Allen/The Flash is my all time FAVORITE superhero. I loved the CW show, I love his comics, I love the animated media… hated the movie. And I think for a good reason. This was The Flash’s DCEU debut (I get he was in BvS and JL, but it’s his first solo movie.) Having a Flash movie without the Reverse Flash just feels wrong. Superman has Lex Luthor, Batman has the Joker, The Flash has the Reverse Flash.

Caleb Newberry

I agree with Alan on Tokyo Drift. It is my 2nd favorite in the franchise. The 1st being #1.

LibKat

Alan is 100% right about The Shining. It is terrible. There is no build to Jack’s madness. He is a creep from start to finish. It may be King’s most atmospheric book, and the atmosphere director screws the pooch. Dr. Sleep is so much better. It has Ewan McGregor, it is true to the book, and it has Ewan McGregor. Jono is SO wrong about the DCEU. Except for casting Cavil and Momoa, every other decision was bad.

Dr. Gonzo

You're both still wrong about Labyrinth 😜

David Michael Wysocki

Prince of Thieves is still a fun gem, with pacing, elements, look of the feel is great!

David Michael Wysocki

I would love if you guys continued with your corrected sequels! those were amazingly refreshing to take a fun cut on what could've been with you guys helming the spit fired conversations. An idea I hope you guys explore is Indiana Jones 4 or 5, Fantastic Beasts Films, or the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels. Also, thoughts on have you considered doing a Psychology of a Hero on William Shatner's Captain James T. Kirk? He's had the most changed journey across the OG series and the films from a man who represented masculinity. A form of toxicity with prejudice on the Klingon race, and redeemed his virtues after they killed his son to embracing the change with the federation and accepting the Klingon's a safe haven in the federation.

Cecilia Case

OMG, watching Alan slowly turn Jono to the dark side (in Love Triangles are Stupid) on that was AMAZING!

Valerie Merriam DeBill

On the topic of The Shining, I notice that Alan has the Avengers poster from Mondo (the merch company for Alamo Drafthouse) on the wall which reminded me that Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar in Austin is Kubrick-themed, with an emphasis on The Shining. The theater is entirely done in the hotel carpet, as you enter there’s a line of room doors (one of which you can go inside and hide and scare your friends (or, like a guy who I almost punched, strangers) by attacking them with a plastic axe), fake elevators where every minute or so a ceiling projector makes it look like blood is flowing out of them - it’s a wonderful, creative homage. Then the rest of the theater is decorated in Kubrick movie posters from around the world.

Adam Bastable

One of the most amazing and paradoxical things I love about movies is how they can be unforgettable, memorable, fun and iconic while still being objectively bad! In other words, movies are capable of by-passing the neocortex and going straight for the limbic system. Not only is Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves one of the most limbic movies of all time, it also spawned Robin Hood: Men In Tights to tell us that our neocortex wasn't wrong!

Bailee

I will always love the dceu because it has birds of prey and I will always love birds of prey cause it was the final push for a loved one of mine to leave a dangerous and abusive relationship. She said seeing harly Quinn being able to stand on her own spoke to something in her and it lead to her making up her mind to leave, which did save her life. So while I dis agree about flash I am grateful to dceu, and its great

MrBogglo

You’re a really good person.

MrBogglo

I will wait for Cinema Therapy after dark FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. THERE WILL NEVER BE ENOUGH

Carson Boswell

Finally, someone else who doesn’t love Revenge of the Sith. I do think it’s the best of the prequels and I think it’s decent, but it’s really not that great

Kacie

More please :)

Sammie

You are NOT wrong about The Shining. It SUCKS and Stephen King would agree with you.

Marocunos

Please be wrong more!

TheRentFan

Alan, you are 100% right about the prequels. Episode 1 was the "best" because at worst it was boring, at best it had the additional pathos of Liam Neeson's brilliance and the other reasons you listed. To the pacing comment, I say that a train wreck also moves. Doesn't mean that I want to see one.

Ron Hopping

Youre both wrong about bicentential man. Or maybe i am. Doesnt matter, i guess.

Olga Makarova

I really like Jono's description of the Tarantino movies. That's exactly how I feel about them, and I was never able to put it clearly. I wonder if they would be popular if he started filming now.

Lane Worley

As someone who also loves Episode 1 the most of the trilogy and Episode 3 the least, I can safely safe. Yes, Alan, we are wrong🤣

BlackAdder

1) Tarrantino might be one of my favourite directors. I'd say the movies tend to be pretty cynical, but I'd also say there are moments of humanity. And some moments of sort of "wholesome violence". Django has quite a lot of those. The moment before bride kills bill is quite tender. Many moments between cliff and rick in hollywood are pretty human. Wholesome violence moments are like when dying SLJackson and confederate soldier join their forces to hang criminal and read fake lincoln's letter. In a way even ending with Landa is sort of wholesome. Buck saving Marcellus in pulp fiction is also pretty wholesome humane violent moment imho. 2) You're wrong about being wrong :-D I loved that movie since I was kid and I think it very much defined a lot of modern robin hood adaptations. Before this, his PTSD from holy land wasn't that important or wasn't there at all and now it seems pretty important part of character development in most adaptations as well as giving him saracen sidekick. It's very hollywoodish, but many actors are great and since english isn't my first language I honestly have problem to differentiate accents so I don't have problem with costner. It's not moviemaking masterpiece imho, but it's great medieval adventure movie. My only beef with it is that it absolutely overshadowed robin hood from same year with Patrick Bergin, Uma Thurman and Owen Teale, which imho is better and more british feeling. 3) I agree with pretty much everything said and you're wrong about being wrong :-D Even when I saw it as a kid when I still liked final fight (today after doing bit of swordfighting myself I feel like it's overchoreographed dance contest and it's at the expense of everyother aspect of good fight which should tell story, it absolutely lacks emotion (only john williams doing some of his best magic saved this slightly for me)), I didn't really like movie. My problem with it is that I don't like portrayal of anakin. I don't blame christensen who imho is good actor, though he isn't great fit for me. But anakin is written as too stupid and imature. He was worse in attack of the clones but it made sense. Now it would imho work better if anakin was more wise and less childish but also a bit more ruthless because of war and I didn't see it here. He seemed to change his motivation and personality too many times and I never saw the noble jedi described in OT nor did I see future vader. And I know it can be done, because clone wars gave me absolutely perfect version of that anakin. That said Palpatine is great. I love episode 1 because it has really cool main duo which isn't as bland as main characters in star wars often felt to me. It was a bit of a spin off episode to some degree but it set up trilogy well. And I never got why everyone has this much problem with jar jar. Is it a bit dumb comic relief which doesn't really fit? Yes (but still better than ewoks if you ask me), but it's not that big part of it and he isn't that bad character. He talks funny but he isn't stupid just clumsy and he has some cool scene. I also totally agree that it would be more cool if yoda and palpatine fought more indirectly instead of being best fighters ever. And most of all he isn't that prominent in the story. Damn why I always end up writing something that long and unreadable? :-D

Rianne's Imaginary Universe

I completely agree with Jono on the DCEU! And I know I'm wrong. (: You guys describe it perfectly! I always felt that the DCEU films had an incredible starting point and spark, but somewhere along the way they lost it, which is why most of the movies in potention are good, but suck at execution. My own I-know-I'm-wrong-but-I-loved-it-anyway: I love Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. I know he is not a good portrayal of the actual Lex Luthor and imitates the Heath Ledger Joker way too much, but the line: 'If God is all good, he cannot be all powerful, and if God is all powerful, he cannot be all good,' always gives me chills.

Cara Gibbons

OMG I completely agree about The Shining! I preferred the 1990's miniseries so much more!

Amber Kenneson

Totally agree about Tarantino. I am not at all a fan, and I have yet to actually “like” any characters in his films—and the gratuitous, heartless violence that is treated with humor is just not my bag. Granted, I haven’t seen all of his movies—because Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill 1 & 2 were enough for me to know I’m not interested in spending more time on his films.

Savannah Florence

I'm with him on DCEU!!! Is it good? No. But did I enjoy 90% of the movies? Absolutely. Marvel expects me to watch 5 movies and a TV show. DC? I can go in blind and still have an enjoyable movie going experience.

Persephone's Golden Shadow

Alan! Don’t let the masses tell you wrong information! Episode 1 is the ONLY watchable star wars prequel. Hold your ground! You are correct as I am correct. We must defend out corner for everyone will see the error of their ways eventually.

Lynettra

Tokyo Drift is trash! Sorry Alan you are wrong!!!!!!😍 DCEU DirCut U, plus WW and Aquaman 1&2, sure it’s decent but I would have liked to see Kevin Smith’s DC vision.🥰 I’m wrong: Quentin Tarantino is hit or miss, not brilliant. Robert Rodriguez, however hits every time! 😁💗

Abigail Mathews

My Wrong Opinion: The 2005 movie Elektra is flawless. When Daredevil came out in 2003, I was hooked. Elektra debuted in theaters the day after my 10th birthday, I saw it with my best friend and made a tradition of watching it every year on my birthday until I turned 21. My fondness for the film absolutely stemmed from childhood nostalgia and the fact that the supporting character and I had the same name. I got to watch a girl named Abby who was highly intelligent, skilled, and compassionate yet she didn't feel like she belonged. Of course though, my hero was the OCD assassin with daddy issues - much to the puzzlement and mild concern of my parents. 😅 The film garnered (pun intended) a lukewarm reception from critics and audience alike at the time and only has an 11-29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. To this day, I think the action, character beats, soundtrack and cinematography are far better than the masses have given credit for. Honestly, I'd love a deep dive episode from y'all cuz I'm curious to hear Jono's perspective on the portrayed OCD and Alan's opinion on which story beats could have been done better from a framing, lighting, or performance angle. Thank you both for all you do, all the good you put into the world and giving me words to concepts of which we all need more understanding. 🙏

Kris Mahoney

OMG! ALAN! I've said Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels for EVER! Thank you so much for joining me in this party of two!

Alyson

ALAN I completely agree with you about Star Wars!

Aneurin Jackson

I really enjoyed this discussion! Thank you!

Frost Song

I enjoyed frozen - but the songs are all over by the time you are halfway through so the pace for me is lost. Frozen 2 has “do the next right thing.” And it helps keep the movie a complete musical in my opinion

Zain Orion

Prince of Thieves was good because of Morgan Freeman, Nick Brimble, Alan Rickman, and Michael "Why a spoon, Cousin?" Wincott.

Ryan3000

Alan, I knew I liked you. Tokyo Drift is indeed a masterpiece and I will die on this hill. Also I enjoyed the flash, mainly because we got to see Michael Keaton suit up one more time, and do the most batman things he's ever gotten to do. Killing that bad guy while planting bombs on him was so cool that I've watched that clip more times than I can count.

Nova Villmark

wait wait wait. Did Jonno get remarried already??

angela lopez

I have argued so many times:. 2001 is boring. So so boring. I'm so happy I've finally heard another person speak this truth

CalibyComb

I once tried to watch The Shining because of its cultural significance, but I never managed to watch it all the way through as I found it way too boring. Didn’t expect to ever see someone who also found it boring lol

Adam Deming

No golden cows. Just because you are a famous legendary director or actor, you can make a crap movie. Also, Revenge of the Sith is absolutely terrible. Of three terrible movies, it is the worst.

Drug Princess

Tokyo Drift! yes someone gets it!! I love all the fast franchise and i am okay to be wrong for doing so!

Jenny*

Alan, I'm with you on Revenge of the Sith. Phantom Menace is the best prequel. *runs away from all the pitchforks*

Emma Bollans

I loved this, I would definitely love to see more things you’re wrong about. I’d argue that Jono is right, Prince of Theives is a great movie. I also need you to explain why you think the opera scene is one of the greatest scenes in Star Wars history, I don’t understand but would like to and you glossed over it as an obvious thing.

Brianna Sackrison

Alan, I love and respect you, I would even love to work with you one day. Revenge of the Sith is a perfect movie and that lightsaber fight is the best 22 minutes of my life

Lacey Buckingham

Thank you so much for being wrong about The Shining. Now I understand why I never liked the movie!

Clara

Re: Kubrick and his smattering of iconic moments and images in otherwise mind-numbingly boring movies, my husband said, “Kubrick is a great filmmaker, but he does not make great films.” I thought that captured it really well

Syndaar

I always thought that I was aged out of liking The Shining - especially because I watched it as a teenager - but now I know I'm not alone. It has its good moments, but it was quite boring, even for me; someone who LOVES MOVIES.

Rebecca Farmer

I agree with Alan's take on Kubrick. Stylistically, he's hard to top. But films are about telling stories and Kubrick frankly sucks at creating coherent, cohesive storytelling.

Solune Vorkosigan

I love this concept, it's very funny, we need more of you being wrong 😁

Christina

YES please more "wrong takes"!
