Reference images - Week 21 Landscapes (Patreon)
Content
Hello everyone! 🤗
Last week we focused on drawing houses surrounded by nature. For this week, I would like to focus on finding different colours in landscape references.
If you look at these images quickly, you will see the colours your brain tricks you into seeing. For example: grass should be green, mountains should be brown or grey, etc. But if you have a closer look at an image, you will see that there are so many more colours. For example, we will have a closer look at this reference:
As you can see, there are lots of colours visible in the different parts of this image. In the grass, you can find various shades of green, but also colours like orange or yellow. As for the mountains, there is almost no brown or grey visible. The colours are various shades of blue, orange, and beige.
I want to challenge you to have a closer look at all of this week's reference images and try to find the right colours. This will give your illustration so much more depth and character. Let me know how this worked out for you! 😊
Tip! Turn the reference upside down, this helps you to see the image in a different way 🙃
Final illustrations week 20
I really enjoyed last week's references. I tried a lot of mixed media with these illustrations: Pencils, brush pens and watercolour. It is so much fun to experiment with different materials in one illustration. I also bought a white Posca pen to have the opportunity to restore white spaces in the end. I must say that this is one of the best things I have bought in the last few months. It helps to be less afraid to make mistakes, so I definitely recommend you to buy one!! 😊
If you want to start, but don't know how and what materials to use. You can visit the first blog post about all my favourite go-to materials. There is also a blog post about my watercolour art supplies:
