Good evening everyone! πŸ€—

It truly is autumn right now with all the autumn colours outside! I thought it would be nice to dedicate an exercise to this season, which includes going outside to draw! 😊

Exercise 1: Autumn Leaf Study 🍁

Find a few fallen leaves with different shapes, sizes, and colours. Create a detailed study of these leaves. Focus on:

Shape and Texture

Colours

Variation: Compare and contrast different leaves in one composition.

This exercise will help improve your observational skills and let you experiment with colours and textures.

Exercise 2: Drawing on location 🌳

Head outside and find a scenic spotβ€”maybe a park, a forest trail, or your backyard. The goal is to capture an autumn landscape. Think about:

Composition: How to place trees, paths, and any other elements in the scene?

Lighting: The light changes during autumn, and there’s a certain softness to the sunlight.

Mood: How does autumn feel? Is it peaceful, windy, or cosy?

This is a great way to practice working quickly and on location.

Exercise 3: Create a still life: Autumn Harvest πŸ‚

Create a still life with objects that remind you of autumn, like pumpkins, leaves, apples, or chestnuts (See the reference pictures I added to this post for inspiration). Arrange them in an interesting way and focus on:

Textures and Shadows: How do the light and shadow fall on the surfaces of these objects?

Details: Pay attention to subtle details, like the shine on an apple or the rough texture of a pumpkin.

Warm Colour Palette: Use warm tones to capture the colours of this season.

Sharing your work ✨

Have a nice evening! 😊
