Exercise 🎨 - Shading (with printable worksheet) (Patreon)

Good morning everyone! 🤗

For this week I created a printable worksheet for you to practice shading. Shading is one of the things that bring your illustrations to life. Knowing how to approach this, helps a lot in your drawing process. This worksheet will guide you step by step in practicing shading.

Instructions

As you can see I created a little example for you. I drew this one digitally with a pencil brush.

Download & Print: If you are working traditionally, print this worksheet and use pencils or brush pens. If you are drawing digitally, import the worksheet into your drawing app (like Procreate).

Understand the light source: The sun in the middle of the page shows where the light is coming from. This helps you where to place highlights and shadows.

Shade each sphere: Each ball is positioned differently in relation to the sun. Try to shade them realistically.

Tips:

Start with the lighter areas and then gradually darken the shaded areas.

Use your pencil a little bit more parallel to the paper to avoid harsh lines.

The side facing the light will be the brightest, while the opposite side will be darkest.
