Good morning dear Patrons 🌸🤗

This month’s exercise is to create your very own colour chart. A color chart is an overview of your favourite colours from the materials you love to use. It helps you see how each colour looks on paper and how they work together.

In this post, I will talk you through the steps of how to create a colour chart and if you'd like to, you can download one of the printable colour chart templates attached to this post!

🎨 Step 1 - Gather your supplies

Collect your favourite art materials and lay them out on your desk. For example, I made colour charts with my brush pens and coloured pencils!

✨ Tip: Try grouping colors that belong together, like cool tones (blues, purples, greens) or warm tones (reds, oranges, yellows).

Materials:

Your favourite art supplies

A pen or pencil (to write down the numbers, etc.)

A loose piece of paper (so you can use it with every illustration)

If you'd like to, you can print one of the colour charts attached to this post.

🎨 Step 2 - Draw your chart

Decide what shape you’d like your chart to be. You print the one of the grids, or simply doodle shapes that feel natural to you, without a pre-made grid.

Fill in (or draw) each square or circle with one color. If you want to, you can experiment with light, medium, and heavy pressure to see the variety one colour can provide.

🎨 Step 3 - Label your chart

Write the number of each colour under the swatches. If you want to add even more information, you can also write down the brand or name of each colour. This way, you’ll always know which pencil, pen, or marker created which effect.

✨ Optional challenges

Create a theme chart (for example, only pastels, or autumn colors).

Make a mix & blend chart to test how colors layer on top of each other.

🌸 Most of all: have fun with this exercise! Your colour chart will be a helpful reference for all your next illustrations! 🤩

Sharing

Post your colour charts in our group chat or in the comment section below. I am always very excited to see your results! 🤗

Happy drawing!

Celyn 🌸
