Welcome to May! Theme of the month: How to draw Botanicals 🌵🪴🌸 (Patreon)
Content
Hi everyone!! 😊
It's May already! My favorite month of the year. Maybe because my birthday is this 19th of may 🙈 but also because it finally gets warmer, there are so many cute baby animals around and all the trees are green again! 🌳
In this post, you can read about:
What you can expect in May here on Patreon
An overview of all the April content I shared
How am I doing?: Illustration work updates and personal updates (+ updates about my upcoming beginner course!)
Because I wanted to get to know which theme you all wanted for May, I posted a Poll. It was a close call, but we ended up with the most votes for Botanicals (Including plants & flowers) 🌸, which I think is a great fit for this month!
We will definitely do Cute Animals in June! Because I would love to do something different to grow our drawing skills even more! 🤗
So the theme for this month will be: How To Draw Botanicals 🌵🪴🌸. We are going to practice with plants & flowers and how to simplify them! Think of creating a tropical botanical garden in your sketchbook 🥰
Here you can find all the content I will post this month
✨ What you can expect in May

Theme of the month
This month, I want to keep the focus on process and learning. We’ll be diving into how I draw botanicals. Different kinds of flowers and plants, just like in a tropical botanical garden! 🌵🪴🌸
Throughout the month, I’ll show you how I approach these illustrations step by step, from the first layer with brush pens to adding details and textures with colored pencils. I’ll also share tips on how I simplify shapes, how I built up a spread with different botanicals and how I draw flowers and plants from close up & far away! We’ll be working with lots of bright colors, which I love! 🥰
My goal for this month is not only to show you my process, but also to help you feel more confident when drawing your own botanicals.
✨ April overview
Last month, we focused on drawing cute little homes. It was so nice to focus only on drawing little homes and I loved seeing all your cute illustrations as well! 🥰 I shared lots of content last month. We had 4 weeks of reference images, step-by-step illustration posts, and of course:
An exercise about practicing house details
A printable worksheet where you can learn to draw a forest home
3 video tutorials:
How to draw a cute little home (with Voice-over)
How to draw a white dreamy cottage
How to draw a yellow spring cottage
A blog post - From reference to little home illustration (My process & thoughts)

✨ How am I doing?
To give you a little insight into my work as an illustrator, I will share an update each month on what I've been up to in the previous month. April was a month to adjust to my life as a full-time illustrator at home!
Illustration work updates
I finished 8 lessons of the beginner illustration course 🤗
I told you a bit about it in last month's post. I am working hard to create a course that anyone who is interested in drawing my style or drawing with brush pens & pencils in general can join!
For now I finished the first 8 lessons which are all about growing confidence in drawing. With lots of exercises to get familiar with the materials and different drawing techniques. It will be such a perfect course for anyone to learn to draw, because we will start from the basics!
More updates soon 🥰
New commission: creating a children's book 🙊
Omg how amazing!!! Someone reached out to me through Instagram and asked me if I was interested in creating children's book illustrations! We had the whole process of making all the right arrangements, which is always such a scary part for me. In the end I told her what my price was (which I made sure that it was finally the right price for me to ask) and she agreed!!!
I'm so proud of myself and I can't wait to start drawing for this project! Unfortunately I can't tell you more about it, but you will definitely see the result in the end!
Personal updates
Here are some photos from April 🤗
I enjoyed spring to the fullest! 🌸
I am so happy to be home again! Portugal was amazing, but being home in the Netherlands with all my friends & family around me, doing the things I love most, makes me actually the happiest! 🥰
I did so many fun things this month:
I saw lots of flowers, which I couldn't resist taking pictures of.
I went on many little mental health walks (It helps my brain to shut off for a while 😉).
I discovered my love for puzzles and cosy coloring books (Definitely recommended)!!
We celebrated kings day (and I treated myself on some themed nails!)
We could finally sit outside at my parents house (loved that day 🥰)
We celebrated easter and my sister made an amazing cake!
Spend a lot of time going to terraces, drinking chai lattes & eating more cake!
This was the little monthly update! Thank you so much if you've managed to read all the way through, and I wish you a wonderful new month full of creativity and inspiration! 🤗✨
